I have a feeling this just backfired on the defense, and now they (and the jury!) have an hour to mull this over. Is it too late for him to take a plea deal?

Please be patient with me as I must make this comment again. Keep in mind, this is only the second case I've followed. I also followed another one which shall remain unnamed.

I was immediately struck by the difference in the judges. This judge appears to weigh things carefully, is more involved in testimony, has a kinder demeaner to everyone involved in the case, and he is efficient and wastes no time. He obviously has a great deal of concern for the time, travel, effort, possibly lost work days, lost wages, childcare, etc witnesses. And I believe he shows respect to the jury, which gains the judge his trust.

In all, this Judge is an oustanding, well-bred individual. He's not insecure and is not interested in politics or television time. All Wake County judges should attend a few seminars conducting by him. He's the cream of the crop.

Oh, and this ADA is awesome too. I thought the two ADA's in the last case I followed were tweedle dee and dweedle dum. And they both seemed to grandstand and have future political aspirations.

I think a lot of what you say can be explained by different personality types, different ages, different length of time in the court room, etc. The Stephens bros. have been judges in this area as far back as I can recall. Judge Stephens reminds me of some of the *older* well-established Raleigh physicians I'd seen when we first moved to Raleigh. Don't know how many *locals* are posting here, but Judge Stephens reminds me a lot of Dr. Sweeney, extremely well known, well respected family doctor I had when we first moved to Raleigh. He was considered the *doctor* to see by long time native Raleighites. The *in crowd* in Raleigh, I mean. Much like Wade Smith and Assoc. were the law practice to call yours. Raleigh had a very well-established 'inside the beltline crowd', and this Judge Stephens reminds me so much of all the old-timers. A Southern *gentleman*. JMO

Just to add, much like Frieda Black was the epitome of the southern school marm'. :-)

2 hrs 40 min to get from Hillsville, VA to his home in Raleigh. Leaving at midnight, he'd arrive by 2:40am (maybe earlier if he really was speeding).

3am - 3:30am NYT delivery person sees light colored SUV at or near house, with all the lights on. What 'burgler' would turn on all the lights? What 'burgler' would wash little C's feet, give her adult meds and tuck her back into bed? What 'burgler' would pass by MY's purse and not take the wallet?

5:27am JLY is back in King, NC getting gas, being rude to the clerk, and making an impression.

6:15am ish - JLY is back at the Hampton Inn, turning that camera away (again).

GUILTY!

Amazing how those times line right on up isn't it ?

I believe the state get to present a rebuttal. Perhaps the state had her in reserve for that but the defense figured why not call her now, get it over with so this is not one of the last things the jury hears. I tend to think they are trying to show a couple of things, Becky Holt didn't call her, and no LE have yet spoken bout this witness or the light blue mini-van. Gamble that the jury will remember the size 10 franklin and a blue mini van and see a possibility of reasonable doubt ?

Dunno but I just can't imagine a murderer or two entering a house and turning on all the lights, then turning them back off after the deed is done. Can't remember who it was, think it was the CCBI guy that said the only light on in the house when he arrived was in JY's closet. Details.

I'm going to get flamed for saying this. And I think JY is guilty.

BUT... From the testimony (and emails) thus far, I understand why JY had an issue with LF. She seems to be a loving mother but also a needy person. She overstepped her boundries constantly and was intrusive in their lives.

I don't believe this behavior was in any way malicious on the part of LF. However, her visits and expectations were excessive. Her own daughter had issues with LF spreading her own news (pregnancy, then later gender of the baby), and her daughter stated in that email that her mother just didn't seem to get it no matter how much she told her. Contacting her daughter's mother-in-law to relay an argument was not her place.

Telling false things to the media...I get the concern.

Completely understand their issues with LF. Now when it comes to MF, I don't understand why she would have been kept from C. for any reason. JY himself stated "thank god for Meredith", and talked about what a good head she had on her shoulders. JY had great respect for her.

I agree, Native -- and I don't you will get even a little bit of flaming for this post -- we can all agree & understand that LF had all the right intentions, but she was over-doing it. I think that some of what she saw between MY & JY was disturbing, and it worried her -- probably because her own marriage w/MY's dad was apparently so bad. And she may well have been over-sensitive about this. Very understandable, and you prolly would agree. Nevertheless, she was often over the top.

Her visits were too long, & she did meddle a bit. PY was also a strong-willed woman and MIL. And each was protective over her son/daughter. In-laws can cause lotsa problems for their chilluns. So this MIL factor (both of them), IMO, increased M & J's problems, and they sure didn't need any help with that.

But to deny MF a visit was penalizing her unfairly because of LF -- but I think PY viewed them as a pair, and MF paid the price. JMO

I can't believe she would question MF's actions at the crime scene. I thought she did great. I am not sure I could have handled it that well.

HF wasn't there, 1st of all, to feel the coldness and the stiffness of the body. I feel that MF knew she was dead from the moment she saw her -- I've never been there & done that (thank you, God), but I just think you would know, somehow. The 911 person who had to go thru the steps -- you gotta try -- prolly somehow gave her just a shade of hope. And outside of putting insCY inside a closet & closing the door, what was she supposed to have done with CY?

HF seemed to be sweet & loving, and certainly protective of her brother. I do think, however, she had heard some of her family talk about MF's actions at the scene and had possibly been influenced by that, and it came out in her testimony. JMO

Next up: Cindy Beaver, postal employee and Birchleaf Drive resident.

She noticed 2 people in a 'soccer mom type vehicle' coming out of a driveway around 5:30am (I assume she is referring to the Young driveway?) She also saw a delivery type van with lights on, on Blue Sage, coming onto Birchleaf.

Vehicle coming out of driveway at Young residence that morning at around 5:15/5:30am. Two people in the car. Bigger than a station wagon, "soccer mom type car" big and elongated, not a sedan. Face turned away as she went by them. Caucasian man driving the car, she could tell by his hands. She thought the passenger was a woman, because of the thick and bushy hair. Thought they were a couple, not certain that the passenger was a woman.

Delivery type van all lit up on the inside on the next street, about to turn onto Birchleaf. Saw that there were newspapers in the van.
