Stephen Powell Arrested in Washington State #2

That was a very insightful article--full of information and much positive thinking on the part of the police chief.

Josh must be sweating enough to fill the Colorado River basin many times over by now.

Josh said he's Dad will be getting out of jail. I'd sure like to know where he gets the money if he does!

In the video portion I saw he said SP will not being coming home and the family will not post bail.

Read something I wanted to add to the thread - it sounds very much like the post-crime behavior of Steven Powell.

This is Sexual Homicide, Patterns and Motives by Robert K Ressler:

p.62
"The murderer's reactions after his initial response to his crime are generally tempered by the need for self-protection. He may dispose of evidence; he may keep a low profile; he may fabricate an alibi. However, his behaviors during this period often run counter to the need to avoid attention. (My note: Such as SP intending to post Susan's journals, etc.) These behaviors fall into one of four categories: 1) returning to the crime scene, 2) observing the discovery of the victim's body, 3) keeping souvenirs of the murder, and 4) participating in the investigation. Such responses illustrate that the need to sustain the excitement of murder often is so strong that it prevails over self-protective instincts.

p.63
"The murderer may even confess to the crime in order to accompany police to the location of the victim's body."

"Many murderers' postcrime behavior involves the keeping of various items, generally associated with the victim, as "souvenirs" (My note: such as Susan's LDS undergarment, her photos, journals, etc.) of the murder... The value to the killer of these items as reminders of the murder outweighs the risk of being identified through the possession of such incriminating evidence. The souvenirs provide the killer with tangible proof that he was able to activate his fantasy, as well as with a catalyst for further fantasizing.
...
"Often the items retained by the murderer are those for which he has a particular fetish."
...
"fetish items in particular provide sexual stimulation."

p.64
"The murderer's postcrime behavior may involve some form of participation in the police investigation of the murder.
..
"The murderer who injects himself into the police investigation indicates his need to demonstrate his power and control as well as to maintain an active involvement in the murder, the source of his excitement. He believes he can fool investigators, and he may write or call police, or even leave clues for them to find. He taunts investigators to catch him. He is actively engaged in trying to show his superiority; thus, he may have made the body easy to find. As one murderer commented, 'You wouldn't get the credit if it wasn't.'"

Ok, so you may be wondering what relevance this has to this case. My thought on this is to use this information to lure Steve Powell into a confession. As a suggestion, I would have Steve sit in a room with one other detective, and bring out the fetish items he has of Susan and ask him to examine them, etc. I would get him to talk about these (very easy.) I would try to get him lost in his fantasy, and then see how far that can be taken with regard to getting Steven to talk. Other techniques to elicit a confession can also be used, such as plea bargain, etc. Who knows, a helicopter flight to the grave site might work. The best time to do this of course is after an accounting of what evidence was found from the search of his home.

MOO.

West Valley Police Chief Thayle "Buzz" Nielsen admits he takes the case of missing mother Susan Cox Powell very personally.

"I promised (Chuck Cox) that we would do everything that is humanly possible, that we just wouldn't give it up,"
he said of his vow to Susan's father to resolve the case.

In a sit down interview with Nielsen in his office Tuesday, the chief used phrases like being "in the fourth quarter" and the "tipping point" when describing where the investigation into Susan's disappearance is now at.

"We're right here on the verge of this. We get through the evidence in that trailer, I'm greatly optimistic we will be ... oh man, all that hard work is paying off I think,"
he told the Deseret News.

Josh Powell also recently said in an interview that he would be willing to talk to the FBI but not to West Valley police.

In the coming days, Nielsen said his department plans to draft a letter personally inviting Josh Powell to sit down with the FBI and his department will take care of the expenses. :floorlaugh:

As for the "Monday morning armchair quarterbacks," Nielsen said he has told his investigators to mostly ignore them.

"They don't know that we've got more stuff than they can even imagine,"
the chief said.

When asked whether the public search of Ely was also meant to "shake the trees" of potential suspects to see how they'd react, Nielsen admitted that was a small part of their motives.

"Whatever we say here today, Josh will be reading tomorrow,"
he said.

Chief's concern for Powell children

He recounted that when West Valley police arrived at their home last month to serve their search warrant, the children were playing in the yard.

The children apparently knew one of the female Pierce County sheriff's deputies.

The other officers present said it almost "emotional" how the two boys sprinted to the deputy when they saw her and gave her a big hug,
Nielsen said.

Is this what you are looking for?? After everything that has happened I am going to have to re-read it!!

that has got to win an award for one of the most bizarre missing persons site I have seen to date. I can only surmise it's purpose is to launch as much smoke and mirrors as humanly possible to thwart any effort to get to what really happened to that poor woman. I pray the truth will come out and the guilty parties will be held accountable.

Thanks HS for the Robert Ressler research. Why? Why? Why? It helped me understand that psychopathic behavior is outside the sphere of our rational thinking. That's why it is so difficult to try and make sense of it all - understand the Why. Such a web of deceit. Scary actually. Yes, scary. Everyone...when you feel BAD vibes from someone, trust your GutInstinct. Bad energy can be felt just as good energy can be felt.

Great points.

Understanding what makes them tick is key to not drowning in the sea of confusion their crimes create. Sluething murders is not a good hobby for someone without that understanding. It can eat up your good energy. MOO.

This is what Susan's loved one have been waiting for:

http://www.examiner.com/missing-per...powell-gain-temporary-custody-of-her-children

It’s something everyone has been waiting for – missing Utah mom Susan Cox Powell’s children have finally been removed from their father and grandfather’s Puyallup home and placed into the custody of their maternal grandparents, Chuck and Judy Cox.

For years Sandy Crain-Anderson listened to Susan’s father-in-law, Steve Powell, as he confided in her about his obsession for Susan. She had no idea that the 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Steve said he had in a locked cabinet in his bedroom included photos he'd taken of unsuspecting women and children.

When Susan went missing Sandy felt compelled to call police to tell them what she knew. Police say that though they didn’t get back to Sandy right away, they hadn’t forgotten what she told them.

During a phone call months ago, Sandy said Steve and Josh called her one night and spoke with her for about an hour. She said they were trying to convince her to make public statements online in support of Josh, something she refused to do.

Sandy said that during their entire conversation she could hear the children in the background. All while the men were discussing their missing mom.

“Her parents, Chuck and Judy Cox, have not been allowed to see or visit with their grandchildren in over a year and a half.

Kiirsi Hellewell talking“And worse--they've been in a place Susan despised above all others. She NEVER wanted them to live with Steve Powell, Josh's father.

“Tonight they are, at least temporarily, SAFE and reunited with their grandparents. The joy in Chuck Cox's voice as he spoke about spending time with Charlie and Braden is not something I will ever forget.

“These little boys may be the Cox family's last link to Susan. Finally, a small bit of justice for Susan is happening.”

Well, I'm just not buying the Steven Koecher connection. I will say, though, SP has a fairly decent handwriting....

IMO

:silly:

Does anyone think that the tandem disappearance of both SK and Susan were "orchestrated" by the Powell's? How did they know that SK went missing at the same time? Was it a big news story back then?

OMG - that article is really something else! I don't really understand why this woman remained friends with Steve Powell when she knew he had a huge 🤬🤬🤬🤬 stash in his house. Wouldn't that creep someone out?

But beyond that, I'm angry that she told LE all that and nothing was done for months and months. I'm thinking he must have told other people, too. There has to be more to this.

BBM

Define huge.

I've been looking through the yahoo forums...LOL I've pulled up everything I could think of there's one I'm still wading through but I thought I had one when I typed in "Steve The Man" but it was for an MIT place..:innocent:

still looking even under her name...

JMO, but I don't think it's fair to link "possible" SP pages. If these people are not SP it is just causing problems for them. I know that's not your intent, but I just wanted to point it out.

:great::rocker::great:

ETA: That restraining order has come back to bite him in the :butthead:

Is it correct that the house in Utah is being rented out? Is it occupied?
And if, as some have suggested, that there were webcams in that house that SP was watching, do you think they would still be there and that SP or JP or both were also spying on the renters?
As I type, I just had another thought. If there really were webcams in the house, do they record? And if they do, then could there be a possibility that whatever happened to Susan in that house is recorded on one of those 15 computers...imagine that!

Tuesday, Josh told the judge he believes his wife committed suicide.

Why is Josh suddenly saying that he thinks Susan committed suicide? Is this an idea that he is planting because he is afraid LE is close to finding Susan? How could she hide her own body if she committed suicide? I thought he said she ran off with another man and now almost 2 years later he's saying she maybe committed suicide. This just makes me mad. GRRR!

I think LE may be very close to finding her somewhere in the Topaz mtn area.

Uhhh, I was camping with the boys at midnight.

Uhhh, she must have run off with another man.

Uhhh, her teenage diaries show she was a tramp.

He hears the police have A LOT of evidence against him.

Uhhh, she must have committed suicide. She probably went out to the desert and dug a hole and set herself on fire. Then her charred bones got up and buried her under the sand.
