This case was just on Nightline here. Part of an interview SP gave where he spoke of his 'interactions' with Susan. How sick is this and how JP just brushed it off when asked about it. What father could say stuff like this in an interview and what son would not think anything of it????? Sick. Some ego SP has and some kind of weird trust thing that JP has of him all the while this poor woman is missing. Sick.IMO.

I think Josh acted embarrassed about it. Was that JP's sister who followed him into the court room? Did you notice SP's eyes when he talked about Susan. Looking down to the left a lot! Lies, lies, lies.

When I listen to SP and read his website, I get an impression of someone who wanted to be like David Koresh, with his own heirem of many wives, to share the women of his followers (family). Was he starting his own little sect?

In researching tonight I came across this article. I have no reason to suspect the credibility of this witness, and what he says is very revealing post-crime behavior. After reading it, it struck me that on Wednesday, JP could lose custody of the kids and the only thing keeping him going. He has regret IMO and shows a total mental collapse in this report. This further confirms SP was the actual sociopath in this family, with JP mirroring his father's traits but not an actual sociopath. MOO.

Ten days after his wife, Susan, went missing, Joshua Powell knocked on a friend's door in tears. For the next hour, he sat on Wayne Hamberg's living room sofa, sobbing, but saying nothing about Susan's mysterious disappearance on Dec. 6.

"He was so distressed, so despondent, so overwhelmed," says Powell's friend Wayne Hamberg, who met the 29-year-old Web site programmer about a year ago at a Salt Lake City computer club gathering.

"The reason he's not talking to police is he's just shut down," Hamberg, 49, a software engineer says about Joshua. "He's so emotionally drained and everybody's attacking him, making him out to be a Mark Hacking or a Scott Peterson. The Josh I know is not some kind of evil guy. I don't believe that's he's suicidal or anything like that, but right now, I don't think he's capable of doing much more than tying his own shoelaces."
...
Family Against Him"I told him Tuesday night, when he came to see me, not to say anything to me about the circumstances, only to talk to his attorney," says Hamberg. "I want to be his friend, not somebody snooping around for a scoop. I'm there to support him and I'd like to think that he's innocent. I'd like to think that of all of my friends."

Hamberg noticed that Powell was thin and pale, as though he hadn't eaten in days. "I offered to make him dinner, but he refused, saying he just had no appetite for food – that it was tasteless," Hamberg says. "I gave him a hug, then he just sat on the couch and cried. He said the only thing keeping him going right now was his two boys. He's latched on to them as his sole mental support because even some of his own family members have turned on him now."

Regarding the possibility JP is planning a suicide if he loses the kids, I just hope he owns up to the crime and says where the body is before he does so in a note. One day his kids will want and be old enough for answers, and deserve to know the full truth. It will also improve his chances in the after-life.

MOO.

I honestly believe JP will crack under all this pressure. His Dad lead him down a wrong path and now Dad isn't there to support him. He will do something crazy. imo

He has a sister and a brother supporting him but Dad was his backbone. moo

Hmm. Yes, he is listed as being a sales rep. Is it possible he was demoted recently? Or do the sales reps also make their own deliveries? Or is this an error?

We had the one client (woman) of his who stated he was measuring cabinets for the school and what kind of security they had, etc., so it's either an error or his position changed. IMO

Let's just hope ol' Lenny isn't gearing up for a trip to Washington now that Susan's case is growing some legs.. I don't think his adult cling-on dysfunctional offspring living on his dime can come up with the cash.

We don't know what his children know, but if they are clueless to their father's antics and have been "programmed" by SP as much as JP surely has, I hope the light bulb has come on. Brightly!!

I would so like to hear the x wife's story, but I guess we never will. To think the court gave him custody....and she fought for years; so he pulled the wool over quite a few people's eyes. imo.

Does anyone know if she had custody of the children before the court's decision, or did SP? TIA

I don't think Josh will kill himself alone.

I think if he DOES get the kids back, he may know it is temporary... and he may ensure that nobody else gets those kids.
I have thought for quite a while that if it is obvious the end is near for Josh... that he will take all 3 of them out.
I want to believe he couldn't kill his boys... but I am not so sure. If he thinks they can't live without him...

I think it's possible that if Josh commits suicide, he may leave a note telling where to find Susan... and taking the blame OR blaming it on his father. It would depend on how he felt about his father at that point...

As long as the boys are safe and Susan is found... whatever Josh does I can live with...

I think if Josh does anything to himself he'll leave a note telling his boys how much he loves them and how much he loved their mother but I don't think he would confess to anything. moo

I could be totally wrong but the one thing I do believe is that he's about to loose it and the more pressure that is put on him the better.

Does anyone know if SP's adult children had any sort of social life in their younger years or were they always kept under SP's wing? Were they home schooled by SP? Children that grow up inside the four walls of their home and not subjected to society like most of us, don't know what "normal" is, just as families locked up in compunds and brainwashed are afraid of the outside world and what they see there.

I doubt if they were home schooled since SP worked. At least 2 went to college. One was in the military. Not sure about the girls. One son is running for congress.........or something. Could be dog catcher for all I know but he is running for public office. I'm sure he's thrilled with good ol' dad now!

No one wants another Wiener! :floorlaugh:

In reading on SP's website, I found a few parts extremely chilling.....

This quote from his website is particularly creepy..

"...When we headed over to see my grandparents, and kept going north on Highway 1, something seemed amiss to me, even at seven years old. "Where is momma?" I asked. Grandma curtly replied, "You're never going to see your mother again." Of course, that was more devastating than the disappearance of the green car. ..."
and
"...We kept driving until we reached Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Grandma and Grandpa parked their trailer house at a trailer camp along the highway, where I-90 now runs. My dad moved to Yakima, Washington where he had found work as a district supervisor for a regional newspaper. The good news for me was that I did not have to finish the last few weeks of second grade, and the next year I started into third grade without missing a beat.

The trailer camp was surrounded by bull pines and terraced up the side of a hill. I would go up the hill and play with my friends and my brother. On one occasion I informed one of my buddies that my grandparents had kidnapped us. ..."

Do we know when this was written? Also, what about this Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, maybe they should search there?
Thoughts?

This is alarming to me. Why would SP need to know about school security? It sounds like an excuse to look around and see where he could plant a hidden camera.

Well IMO SP had boundary issues and was obsessed somewhat/alot with Susan. I have no problem seeing how SP could be involved or part of the reason if not the whole reason Susan went missing.

JP has more reason now to be sitting and talking with LE, letting them know everything he knows about SP's and Susan's interactions. He should be pi$$ed his own father couldn't control himself and had these obsessions with his wife. The only reason he would not cooperate is if he had something to do with Susan's disappearance.

I'm sure LE is pouring over SP's phone and internet records looking for a link and it could take awhile. I also expect SP to have more charges in the future.

Interesting article. All SP or JP had to do was email one of those images, and they'll be nailed for trafficking. LE is all over these guys, I think.

Thanks for the link GI! There is a ahem, lively discussion going on in the comments.

One poster had a theory that I didn't particularly agree with wholly, but got me thinking nonetheless. It discussed the posssiblility of Josh giving Susan the date rape drug to knock her out. While knocked out he put her in the car, then went inside to get the sleepy boys and their stuff. She came to and sounded the car alarm. It takes him a few minutes to respond because he is inside getting the kids ready.

That darn car alarm report is bothering me!

It's what a knowledgeable woman should do to call for help. Sounding the car alarm, yelling fire. Especially when her fear flag goes up when being approached in a parking lot and needs help. Susan may have activated the car alarm trying to summon help.

Didn't Susan also leave her purse behind? Another red flag...

That's right Peliman! It sure is a red flag!

The poster suggested that Josh was flustered and left Susan's stuff behind by accident as he was in a hurry to get out of there. (paraphrased)

I don't know if you followed this case at the very beginning, but Wayne Hamberg is well known around here as a Powell schill. He has backed Josh from the very beginning and is as much of a narcissistic blow hard as SP. I take anything he has to say with a grain of salt. He was even banned from WS for some really outrageous insulting posts.

Thanks. I did find a second account of Josh's post-crime behavior that aligns perfectly with his account:

Kiirsi Hellewell, Susan Powell's best friend, said she has been in contact with Josh Powell on a daily basis but hasn't asked him specific questions about Susan in an effort not to interfere with the investigation or to lose his trust as a friend.

"He doesn't do a lot of talking. He mostly looks upset and confused and is crying most of the time," Hellewell said.
