Hi Scandi,
I responded to your #8 post stating that I agreed with you.It has a quote to your post.My post is #61.
I would like this removed also.I sat and watched Animal Planet on monday and I watched the part where he explained the part with his son and the croc.When that incident took place the media was all over it.I regret to say that I listened to there side.It was not until I watched Steve explain in his own words and emotion what really happened.Even though that interview was dated 20june2004,I did not see it until monday.(I watched it more than once.)
I am happy that you want to have your post removed,because while I was watching him explain,I felt guilty thinking that he put his son in danger.
I am going to PM Texas and ask for the post to be removed.

It's true, Steve didn't put Bob's life in danger, if you look at the footage, the croc was never anywhere near Bob.
The croc was at least 6 feet away and Bob was on the other side of Steve's hip to where it was...he knew what he was doing.
I know some might say, well did he know what he was doing when he got killed by a stingray, but that was just a freak accident, a one in a million chance that that would happen, which makes it seem even more unfair.
As sad as it was, Steve's number was up.

I did look at the footage on the special monday.Steve did not put his son in danger as you stated.I watched Steve explain and the video was shown.I had only heard about the video and listened to the media without seeing the video.So I did see the video on monday and saw what you and other posters explained (before I even saw the video).After the video is a different story.
Steve's heart reflected my change of heart.

You're right about WS, what a great place!
I couldn't stand to read anything bad said about Steve and luckily I didn't really have to here, the odd couple of posts that were derogatory I just ignored for the most part.

It has definately helped coming and reading these posts, many, if not most of them coming from outside Australia. It is comforting to know that Steve was so loved right around the globe. I am finding it so hard to accept that this has happened to such a special person. It is just devestating seeing his friends talk on the news and at press conferences, they keep breaking down emotionally which breaks me down. Steve was such a big part of what Australia stands for and now he's gone

I heard today the police want to destroy the video of the accident. I really hope they do this. I would hate for it to find it's way to the internet.

This is just so awful, it's all everyone is talking about here. So much of Australia is still in shock. A part of Australia died when we lost Steve on Monday He was a bloody good bloke.

I think a part of the WORLD died when Steve died. There was no one ever like him, and, honestly, I don't think anyone could even come close. What a man! Can you guys imagine what a better world this would be if we had more people like Steve? More compassion, more caring....more love.

If my boys grow up to be half the man Steve was, I'll be one gloating, proud Mama!!

He exuded every single characteristic of what a perfect man should be.

Rest in peace.

EDITED TO ADD: I really hope the police destroy the film. I hope they already have.

But that doesn't mean there aren't concerns that someone could attempt to get their hands on it and publicize it for lurid means - or just to show they had it. That, said media analyst Martin Kaplan, would be tantamount to a snuff film.


He was hugely popular in the United States, becoming a star as the "Crocodile Hunter" on Discovery's Animal Planet channel. In an interview with Associated Press Radio in 2002, he discussed his passion for grappling with crocodiles: "That's what my hand and my brains are designed to do," he said with his trademark enthusiasm. "That's what I have to give to the world."

In the same interview, he noted: "If I'm going to die, at least I want it filmed ... If we blew a million dollars worth of cameras, at least we could have gone to MGM and gone, 'Hey, look at this tape.'"






Irwin's manager and close friend, John Stainton, had the painful experience of watching the videotape where Irwin pulls the stingray barb from his chest. He called it "shocking."

"It's a very hard thing to watch, because you are actually witnessing somebody die, and it's terrible," he told reporters.

Stainton later said on CNN's "Larry King Live" that he would never want the tape shown publicly.

"I mean, it should be destroyed," Stainton told King on Tuesday evening. Noting the tape now is evidence in a coroner's inquest, Stainton said, "When that is finally released, it will never see the light of day. Ever. Ever. I actually saw it, but I don't want to see it again."

Steve was only the second Australian to die from a sting ray barb, he was just really unlucky.

I've never been a big beleiver of fate but this has definately opened my eyes up. Makes me wonder how fate works. Steve's accident was a 1 in a million chance of happening. I think it was his fate to die doing something he loved and revolved his life around. Thats the only thing that makes any sense to me right now and gives me some form of comfort.

Seems Steve would of wanted the video shown. He was definately into the shock factor of life. Its so sad we lost him I will miss watching him and how excited he always was! Like I said before though I am still not shocked at all at his death.

Hi everyone. I am watching Scarborough Country right now, and both Joe and Greta have had commentary by Jeff Corwin {sp} tonight as he was a good friend of Steve's.

I was very surprised to hear him suggest as you did MyGirlSadie, that it might be that Jeff might want this footage shown. I didn't really grasp Jeff's reasoning as I couldn't believe it was being suggested, but he said for one thing jeff might want to prove everything was being done properly in regards to him with the animal. Also as a legacy of his death.

I thought I saw it very early this morning on TV, but it must have been some other clip. What I saw was Steve standing up in the water as the water is splashing, curled over with both hands to his chest and then turns to walk to the waters edge and the clip stopped. Maybe someone else saw what I did - I could swear it was at the very beginning of Letterman last night! It might have been a dream too. The impact of his sudden and tragic death has hit me hard, even though my love of animals usually stems from a desire to paint them.

OK, now I've got a bit of a bone to pick with you, regarding giving your condolences to only the "Aussies" for "their loss". What about the rest of us? Of course, I'm teasing around with you.

But ...

In all sincerity, I feel realistically "we", as in the entire earth, have experienced a loss with the passing of Steve Irwin. He has touched lives around the globe, educating people (big and small) all 'round the earth to be good stewards of 'our' planet. Teaching respect for the oceans, the forests, the wildlife and even family life. This will affect not only us, during our remaining years; but also those for generations to come.

Whether it be in the way we treat one another, our wildlife, or our environment. He's made an impact that will affect the world for future generations, and it is a great loss to all mankind everywhere, not just Australia!

I know Steve was Aussie and proud of it! And, I sincerely hope this doesn't offend any of our Aussie members! But when Steve Irwin died, imo, we all suffer that loss!

And CRIKEY, y'all ... what a BIEW-DEE he was!

STEVE Irwin's dad Robert has indicated the family may refuse an offer for a state funeral for his son because he was "just an ordinary bloke".

If it were up to Steve Irwin, "the state funeral would be refused", Mr Irwin said.

However, the final decision would be made by Irwin's wife Terri.

Mr Irwin faced the media for the first time to thank the public for their tributes to his son and ask for his daughter-in-law to be given time to grieve.

He said Terri Irwin was holding up "very well", but "she's extremely concerned for her children".

"It's extremely hard for Terri and the children," he said.

I just read in the paper that Terri's last call to Steve didn't get through.
They were on opposite sides of Australia on Fathers Day which was the day before and she had tried to ring him to put the kids on to talk...
She did manage to get a text through and said 'the kids send their love'.


I am consoling myself with the fact that at least his family weren't there that day, can you imagine..
Bad enough for Bindi to hear about her Dad's death without having witnessed it.

Look out for Bindi Irwin everyone, she is going to be as big as her Dad.

I think Dark Shadows and Scandi are very honorable people who looked into the facts a bit more, and realized what a great man Steve Irwin was.
Really.......I didn't see where you wrote ......But, it takes a special person to admit a mistake. It was another posting early on that had me in shock.
