Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter, Is Dead

I wonder if he had not pulled the barb out if he could have possibly lived? I know it had posion in it, but pulling it out just opened the heart up to bleed out. This is all so sad and we are all much better off for having known his dedication and works. God Bless his family..

i don't think so...it's rare to get stung in the heart...i THINK i read that only one person has ever lived, after being stung in the heart...someone help me, if there's a link, but it just doesn't happen often....

i think Irwin said it best...apparently he's quoted for saying that "if he's ever killed by an animal, it'll be his own fault"...

i also 'heard' that Bindi was/is in the making of a children's show....she seems so animated, she'd be great, IMO......

Steve was an amazing person.

We are all lucky to have the privalage to see his work.
Those that would say hateful things due to their own ignorance just show the blackness in their own hearts.

Thank you Steve for just being you!

What an amazing life Steve had. I wish I had half the energy that he did. Being given the opportunity to make a living doing what he loved and taking his beloved family along "for the ride" made him very blessed indeed. I know that his family and the world will miss him every day. We should all be as lucky to pass on doing what we love. He made me smile every time I watched him because he just looked like he was having a complete BLAST. RIP Steve. My prayers to your wonderful family. You've made your country proud.

I suggest that some of you may need to reacquaint yourselves with the TERMS OF SERVICE REGARDING BASHING THE VICTIM. It will not be tolerated. A man is dead. Keep your childish comments to yourselves.

When I first heard the news from my son, it was just something that I couldn't believe ... I mean, I thought "no way, this has to be a joke!"

I think we all feel like we've lost a dear friend. He was just such a happy person in his element, and so enthusiastic about wildlife, and he wanted the whole world to feel the same way he did.

I remember many hours of enjoyment watching him with my two sons. My boys and I will miss him terribly, and I say a prayer for his wife and his two children, and all of his friends, who I'm certain are all just devastated this has happened.

Rest In Peace, Steve.

I too feel like I knew him. I just am having such a hard time believing he's gone. I just watched him on Animal Planet swimming w/ the dolphins. He then grabbed Bindi and she held onto him as he swam. What an experience for a little girl. I know she'll cherish all of the films of her w/ her daddy.

Not sure if this was posted, but this is my favorite picture. What a gorgeous family!

I miss him and never even met him and can't stop thinking about him. I can only imagine what Teri is going through. Little Bob is young, but I'm sure he senses something bad happened to his daddy. Poor, precious Bindi must really be taking this hard. One thing she knew, her daddy loved her and he will always have a special place in her heart. God bless the Irwin family.

I think his going in this way sort of just sealed his status as a legendary person...as he went out in his prime. I think it's also a valuable lesson that we're all human. He'll be missed.

One thing that stuck me as very giving and compassionate, Steve "shunned" the material trapping of his image and instead donated and supported wildlife conservation, preservation and education.

That to me speaks volumes about his character, may he rest in peace and hopefully his children and family will continue his legacy.

He will be missed.........

What a wonderful, exciting passionate person Steve was and luckily for the world he will live on in his many animal shows. He was so blessed to live life with such passion, so many people aren't that fortunate. Although I feel sad that he has gone I am so happy he was able to go doing what he loved. So many people aren't that lucky. This is such a loss for everyone, thru his work he touched so many people, in such a fun creative way. Bless his family at this horrible time. His little girl seems so much like him, I bet she will carry on his legacey as she gets older. Steve thank you for teaching my kids about different animals in a such a captivating way. You are forever in our hearts.

_ "It is all about perceived danger. In front of that crocodile I was in complete control. Absolute and complete control. That is my profession. I would be considered a bad parent if I didn't teach my children to be crocodile savvy because they live here, they live in crocodile territory." — On the 2004 controversy in which he was filmed holding his infant son while feeding a snapping crocodile:

_ "To hear people say that it was a publicity stunt, that I'm just like Michael Jackson, well, it just tears me up. It makes me sick to my stomach to be compared in that way." — On the same incident.

Animal Planet is remembering Steve all this week w/ special airing of the Crocodile Hunter, starting at 6 p.m. ET/PT.

Check out www.animalplanet.com and the many articles remembering him.

Discovery Communications, Inc. Mourns Steve Irwin

DCI is looking at the creation of the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter Fund, which we'll affectionately call "The Crikey Fund" to honor Steve's passion and exuberance for conservation and the animal kingdom. This fund will allow people from across the globe to make contributions in Steve's honor to support wildlife protection, education and conservation. The fund in addition to contributions by DCI will also aid Steve's Australia Zoo in Breewah, Australia as well as educational support for Bindi and Bob Irwin.

I was telling my coworkers today, that at least he got to live his dream and be passionate about his career. How many of us will leave this world never realizing our dreams.

Its so heartbreaking here watching the TV and seeing all the kids crying.

Steve actually visited a lot of schools and also had Educational packs made for primary school aged kids, so aussie kids just love Steve.

Those educational packs were about the dangers of our aussie wildlife and the what/ how/whens the kids should do if they where in or confronted with danger.

Depending on the ages of the kids, these packs contained projects, work sheets, videos plus a teachers manual on how to teach the kids etc

They were fantastic and the kids absolutely loved them
I used these educational packs with special needs kids and they just made learning so much fun for the kids.

I would like to state too that these edu packs were designed/created by Steve and Terri for the sole purpose of educating young kids to the dangers and risks of our wildlife and they did this FREE of charge for the education department.

Steve was an over-the-top type personality but he always admitted that and being a drongo really helped get peoples attention

He had a huge heart and totally loved his family.

I'm so glad i came back on here today because after reading here yesterday those few posts about him being an idiot, about the "putting bob in danger BS" and also accusing him of being cruel to animals, I actually left WS in a huge snit and in tears.

So its now nice to see posts by people who actually saw the man as he really was .. a True-Blue Aussie drongo with a huge heart, a loving/adoring dad, husband, son and mate and a true animal lover/activist. A true aussie icon who will be missed

~aussieblue

PS I keep wondering if Terri will OK it for a state funeral, some how i think Steve would have not wanted the fuss. He would probably say "CRIKEY just donate some money to the wildlife fund". :)
Hi aussieblue .you have said exactly what I wanted to say .I came on here yesterday to post and left without posting.I realise everyone has their own opinion but there are times when you just keep them to yourself .I am so devastated for his family and also for the loss to the environment and animals that he wanted to help.He will be missed.I think Terri is a wonderful lady and will carry on with his great work.

I have been happy with this thread.
It has showed me how Stever Irwin managed to touch people's lives in such a positive way.
I have really appreciated hearing stories from around the world, telling us Aussies what we already knew
The CROC HUNTER RULED :D
He did good!
Noone can take that away from him and his family.
The couple of people that did bother to bag him here were pretty much ignored and the good remarks kept coming.
Thanks everyone :)
