AN UNKNOWN PERSON USED Shannon's cell phone to call her family and taunt them. Said calls seemed to be originating from the midtown bus terminal area, or was it Penn Station. That was discovered when the SCPD asked NYPD to do whatever they do to trace the origin of the calls.

It just adds another dimension to the story that is without any real answers.

Just hope the cops are patient and not running amok with their own theories and doing so without keeping an open mind.

The only taunting calls from Manhattan that I have ever read about were to MB's sister from MB's phone.

every week I watch Criminal Minds - a great and entertaining show. But in all my years in the NYPD have I ever recalled a case their BAU solved. NEVER!

See the latest story in today's papers how the FBI cracked a relatively small heroin ring? Good work, but what is the DEA for? Must have been doing narco when those 19 <mod snip> flew OUR planes into OUR buildings. Must have been doing a buy and bust for 25 years when Bernie was robbing 65B.

The DEA , FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) share concurrent jurisdiction for enforcement of the “Controlled Substances Act.” That is why the FBI made the heroin ring bust.

Heroin is a “Schedule I Controlled Substance”.

I THINK we should get our definitions straight about what WE want to call a serial killer. I think we won't have a problem agreeing that a serial killer is more like a person that kills many and does it for the pleasure of doing so.

a lot of people kill a lot of other people and it doesn't make for a serial killer as most of us understand it.

It has pretty much always been my belief that the four gals found in the burlap bags are the victims of a sex ring. the gals get bothersome - they die. Recruiting or forcing woman into bondage is as easy as going to Craigslist or Backpage and making a date. The gals have to call back otherwise they can't operate. so many gals out there you can afford to kill the problem children.

The FBI is *Mandated by Law* to share jurisdictional and enforcement responsibilities of the “Controlled Substances Act” with the DEA and ICE.

The FBI *Does Not* have a choice in the matter.

It would literally take an *Act of Congress* to change this fact.

We were told Ms.Gilbert made a 911 call from her cell phone from a home she sought assistance. We know she ran out of the house. And we now know she was found in the weeds about 1/2 mile away from that home.

Where did her cell phone go missing.

Was the taunting calls made from another phone Gilbert owned.
why would the killer expose himself to arrest by calling the family
Was it a diversion
Why make the calls from one of the most populated areas in NYS.

I ask these questions so you can get a sense of it all. the sense of it all is it DOESN'T have to make sense. It only has to make sense to the person that did it.

Fyi, the calls from around NYC were actually from the perp to Melissa Barthelemy's little sister, not Shannan. The only other phone calls were those made by CPH to Shannan's mother & sister, and those calls were made from CPH's phone, not Shannan's phone.

The one thing I found is that her first husband's name is Fernando Pak. Reports say he is of Chinese decent. She moved to the US with him and had two children but was divorced by the time she was 24.

Her second husband, Gristina, is running for some elected Assemblyman position in NYC. He apparently was arrested in 1998 (I think that was the year ) on a solicitation of prostitution charge.

They could very well be authentic.

The point is that 48 Hours, IMO, has a responsibility prove that whatever documentation they offer in a news story has been properly authenticated and vetted. It is more important that they do this given CBS' history regarding issues with properly vetting important documents.

Furthermore, IMHO, just because the letters are still available, does not mean that the doc has not taken any legal action regarding them or has not protested them.

One other thing. 48 Hours was responsible for that "mock trial" of Caylee Anthony's mother. That show aired *Before* the actual trial. Their ethical standards were called into question because of it.

I am of the opinion that 48 Hours operates under dubious ethical standards.

The FBI has better things to do that to hunt out drug dealers. During the Cold War and the real war the FBI was primarily concerned with espionage and spying. Probably 75% of the NY Bureau was assigned to that. Espionage and spy cases don't make big splashes due to the nature of the investigations.

Sure, if the FBI has nothing better to do then why not investigate drug violations. They want headlines, not good, quiet, and effective work that gets no PR.

Perhaps he is from Macau - a former Portuguese colony until 1999 that was located across the by from formerly British Hong Kong. Under Portuguese rule Macau was known as a hotbed of gambling, organized crime, prostitution, and yeah you guessed it - the sex slave trade. Once the Portuguese left the Chinese came in and cleaned up the place.

His name sounds Macanese - mixed Chinese/Portuguese.

The truth is we can only speculate as to what happened at Giglo. My concern is we may never know what happened, because IMO the SCPD and DA cannot be trusted to tell us the truth.

I will guarantee you that when they started investigating these murders they came across information too delicate to reveal. I cannot understand how they could be investigating this case and NOT be quizzing every prostitue in the area that advertises on Backpage and Craigs List. If there is an answer it will be with the prostitues that still engage their wares on the Internet.

I guarantee you that they are hiding something and that something is what is causing the investigation to go dormant, assuming that it is.

Look, these gals have phones they have to answer. Using phones is the primary source of communicating with Johns to do their business. They have to use the phones to complete their work. That means a huge paper trial that leads back to a lot of people.

You folks see what was going on with Spitzer. You see it again in the latest Sex Scandal in NY.

The media and the public could care less about the underlying charges, they are interested in the customers that use their services. Otherwise it is just another prostitution case of real no consequence.

What if the Manorville murders are gang related and the SK is a member of that gang, doing his own murders. He might have thought, why not bury his victims where the gangs bury theirs. Then the police would blame the gang on all of the murders.
