Just my opinion....but it still seems strange that LE used the childcharges against Heinrich to get at him for the abduction of JW. It is telling that this seems to be an "end around".....so I suspect that LE knew all along that Heinrich was the culprit. Beyond that, I cannot say- but- pornographic pictures on his computer can hardly compare with the murder of an innocent 11 year old boy.
A they had no other evidence they could use. Obviously, it worked
Yes, you're right....it obviously worked. But it still seems to me they suspected him all along...and thus the leverage. And maybe that is what they were waiting for....the leverage. But that begs the question: why drop DJH in favor of DR as POI? Since they had no evidence of DJH(excepting of course the tire tracks and the foot prints) as a POI.....why name DR when they had no evidence against him? Makes no sense. There's still something missing from the story.

Three years ago, the Special Prosecution Team, set up by the U. S. Attorney's office, took control of this case. From what I can tell, they were not involved in any "investigation" to determine what happened to Jacob, they knew Heinrich did it. They were intent on proving it to the point of either bringing him to trial or getting a confession and settling the issue once and for all. I could see no indication that they ever considered DR, anyone else or even some "unknown" as a suspect.
Right. When the FBI took over the case they determined almost immediately that Danny Heinrich was the guy. The lead agent even testified that he could not understand why Heinrich was not the lead suspect all along.
A name you haven't heard much of may have been a factor in this case and others that remain unsolved, and that is Roger Van Heel.
Are you going to elaborate or simply make this a teaser?
I tried to edit the last post but my phone locked up. Van Heel was a longtime county attorney in Stearns. He did not like to try cases, apparently.

So it was obvious from the start.....then it became confused.....then it became obvious again.
I wonder if it was because Heinrich did not follow a pattern of escalation?
But he did follow a pattern of escalation, no question about it. Went from being on foot, to using a car, to using the threat of a gun, to murder.
And then stopped basically for 27 years. There is the problem. From the book by Doglass is it, how often do they stop their compulsion?
Indeed. How did such a "person"-I hesitate to call him that-go on for 27 years? Did his murder of Jacob scare him to the point of awareness of what his compulsion and acceleration of that compulsion had done? And that awareness only to fade as the years rolled by....and thus the more "tempered" compulsion of online perversion?
Very likely, yes. The evidence points to him crossing a line he never intended to, and it scared him enough to channel his compulsions into more passive avenues. This is a completely logical conclusion, and I can't see anything convincing me otherwise unless new evidence presents itself.
Also, and these are just my own personal beliefs on the matter, I think it's important to call him a person and not a demon or some other similarly nefarious label. That gives him (and those like him) much more power than they deserve. He is just a man, and there are men like him everywhere. We need to recognize the reality of this and speak about it in a more open and honest manner if we ever hope to understand why these compulsions develop and how we can avoid tragedies like this in the future. Yes, I feel digust and anger when I see his picture of hear his name, but that's not going to be productive in helping keep other kids safe in the future.
I agree with your first paragraph....and thank you for your sense of a logical conclusion of DJH's behavior. IMHO, it seems to be a descriptive framework of his behavior.Very likely, yes. This is why he needs to be studied. He really does not fit the profile of men who do this. Grab and kill. They do not stop.
I feel that is why he was not considered later as he did not accelerate his sickness to grab and kill more.
He brought a loaded gun, so he was willing to go that far in his dreams and he acted on those dreams
