SUSPECT IN CUSTODY MN - 2 Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses were shot by someone impersonating a police officer, JUNE 13,2025

I’m 100% with you , flower shop ! I saw the charging document on an online news channel earlier, why second-degree murder , I was appalled ? And these two murders and two attempted murders were clearly premeditated . I guess it has to do with the laws of MN ? How it is spelled out , I’ll have to research this further tomorrow, it is too late tonight ! This lunatic had this planned, it was not a crime of passion, nor heat-of-the-moment, nor a lesser charge, it was planned, calculated, he created his own fake police car, and word fake police clothes, for crying out loud ! What is not first-degree , premeditated about how this guy committed these shootings?
They're probably doing this so they can bump things up when/if they get additional evidence.

It'll almost certainly be bumped up to first degree murder, and it's entirely possible the Feds take the ball too.

Evidence of premeditation couldn't possibly be more clear, from tracking down their addresses, the hit lists, the uniform/fake police car, etc. It's not unusual to see lesser charges initially, like we frequently see in murder cases where the initial charge may be something like kidnapping.

He'll never escape life in prison for something like this.

is it likely he will be charged with terrorism too?

it’s hard not to compare VB to luigi mangione, both killing someone (or multiple people) for “ideological reasons”, the manhunt that followed, trying to understand what really drove them, etc.

That would be pretty much where the police helicopter was circling yesterday, which another poster pointed out was right near where his house was.

I suppose that we should be thankful that Boetler, like most killers, doesn't seem to be very bright. The United States, for the most part, is a vast, empty country. He had cash, a car and a head start on the police. He could have tried to flee absolutely anywhere. Instead, he tried to hide in the woods near his own house, the one place that he could guarantee would be crawling with police!

Whoever in LE thought to proactively go to that second house is a massive hero.

Totally agree. I think doing so interrupted what could have been a much larger massacre.

To me he looks smug and defiant.
And not sorry at all about what he did. Rather pleased with himself, in my opinion.

Yes I noticed the amount of women as compared to men.

He seems to have a problem with women, more than men.

He appears to have changed clothes and picked up a backpack of stuff, so maybe he thought he had enough of a head start to pick that up and get going, but LE were onto him quicker than he thought. I think LE did a great job of concealing how much they knew, and how close they were to catching him, lured him into a false sense of security and probably trapped him in a perimeter.

Very interesting that he is still alive, seems like this kind of criminal would usually take their own life?

Vance Boelter, the man accused of shooting two Minnesota lawmakers on Saturday, was booked into Hennepin County custody early Monday, hours after his capture following a nearly two-day manhunt, according to online jail records.

Boelter, 57, is charged with two counts of murder in the second-degree and two counts of attempted murder in the second-degree, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the Minnesota Star Tribune.

The suspect is accused of shooting and killing state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, and shooting and injuring state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife.

Boelter is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 1:30 p.m., jail records show.

Absolutely. But for the quick thinking police sergeant (I think it was) who decided to send some officers to check on the state legislator who lived nearby, after he realised who had been shot at the scene he was at, I'm sure Boelter would have been driving around Minneapolis all night shooting people on his list.

to be honest, i wonder if that’s just because most women’s rights / pro choice advocates are women?

though i don’t have a problem believing he hates women either way

Glad he has been apprehended. He's clearly a very dangerous man.

Have to admit, I'm a little surprised he was alive.
