Sounds like she has enough information to fear for the safety of herself and kids. But not enough to know exactly why "people coming to the house armed and trigger happy" would be arriving. He's telling her to leave.

So until or if - she's arrested and charged with a crime related to the murders her husband committed. IMO, she is a victim and should be treated as such.

She did consent to voluntary searches. She could have been very helpful. We don't know at this point.

If my husband texts me some weird statement about having gone to war and that "people" would come to our home all trigger happy and I DIDN'T know what he was up to ahead of time you know what I'm doing? Calling the dang police and getting immediately out of that house with my kids.

Know what I'm NOT doing? gathering up 10K in cash and passports for me and the kids as if to head for the border. But sure, that's just me.

I still think it's possible she did call the police about that weird statement. But...won't be surprised if it turns out she was trying to flee or trying to get that cash to a meeting point.

I do think if my husband appeared to go off the deep end and there was cash in the house, I would take it along while running away. And ID. Even if I had no particular plan. I would probably go a direction I suspected he were not going (if I were innocent) and let him have his shootout with the police far away from me.

The fact his note admitted guilt for the shootings yet not reason for his “war”, makes me wonder if he will give motive.

I found that message odd
If he sent a message with ‘war’ to his wife and kids but no motive or explanation, to me that sounds like his family could already know he anger, the reason, and motive for any ‘war’

An assumed motive for a ‘war’ could be a code word or trigger for them to act in some way?
Is there a common belief among the family that the country is in a state that warrants ‘war’?
Has he discussed the need for such ‘war’ for political or religious reasons?

Why am I thinking this
If I sent such a message to my kids regarding the beginning of a ‘war’, it would be too cryptic for them to make any sense of it.
My kids would be asking questions… wth? Mom?

A politically motivated murder would have some kind of intent to punish, for vengeance, or to prevent of their stance impacting his life

That is the stuff of nightmares, to know you were on the list with others who were killed
Terrifying, so you either buck up and fight harder for what you stand for- or buckle under the pressure.
My guess is VB’s actions could empower many who have had a hard time mustering strength to standup for what they think is right. To do so now means Hortman lost her life in vain

It is odd he was basically at his house still and she was 2 hours away. Seemed he was right where he wanted to be for some reason that was his house. No idea why she's that far away, but I agree I'd take our cash and my passports/ IDs/ other documents I would need and leave. Maybe she has family up that way and she was trying to get to their house. It sounds like she's been cooperative though. She consented to a phone and car search. Hopefully she has nothing to hide and was just protecting her kids.

I'm thinking the Buick was barely running, the seller was willing to get rid of it for a few hundred $ so, combined with the e-bike, $900 doesn't seem to crazy. I think he abandoned it when it broke down. Just my opinion and guess.

Maybe. But was she sure he wasnt drunk, or under some influence? Wouldnt she report it, being worried about his safety, if this came out of the blue? Did she contact room mates? Why have 10k lying around?

I have no opinion at this point whether the wife was involved or had any advance notice. But I think way too much is being made of what she was found with.

I live is a fairly rural area and I keep a lot of cash at home, not $10,000 but quite a bit that some people might find suspicious. My reason is simple, there have been times when a fiber optic was cut or there was a several day power outage and no credit cards could be processed so it was cash or go without. I've also used it to pay a handyman or other repairman who did not take credit cards. So yes, I also find $10,000 to be a lot but not really excessive. It also happens to be the amount you can take across the border without declaring.

Where we live is subject to natural disasters, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, wildfires, tsunamis, etc. My partner and I have "contingency plans" in case something happens and we are separated. I don't expect either of us will ever be hiding from the police but our plans are generic enough to be suitable for most situations, mostly meeting somewhere safe, potentially on another island. So I don't think having an escape plan involving fleeing to Canada is completely crazy when you live a few hours away.

I also carry my passport around routinely because it is my only "real ID" so if I do need to hop a flight to another island, I have it.

Guns, I own but don't carry around with me. But in rural areas, having a gun with you is simply not unusual.

My point is, I just don't find her actions as unusual or suspicious as some of you do!

Someone had posted that the nice home on acreage was listed at $327,000 when sold. Probably has increased in value since they bought it.
