2 things. The whites of your eyes are the whites of your eyes. Can we infer from the photo below that light things become darker and dark things become lighter due to infa-red? Secondly, could that be a taser in the perp's pocket? Jmo

When it comes to human anatomy, IR is different than when it comes to clothing (which has differing contents and dyes). IR has to do with reflectivity of light that is on a wavelength that is outside of normal visibility, so I don't think you can just say lighter is darker and darker is lighter. The "whites" of our eyes also have blood vessels and liquid, etc that might affect wavelength reflection. I can't actually find anything definitive at this time, though.

Is the button like thing (circled) part of; the gun holster or his belt? Looks too small to be a button on the pants, and oddly placed. Almost looks like the gun holster is hooked/snapped together with it??

Thank you, that is my right, but the suspects left. I think of the reflectors on the backpack. Those are very bright. So my first thought was a reflective something on the wall or near the wall. You can see at one point what might look like movement is just seeing the bright through a piece of foliage. But then on several viewings, I suspect that is the backpack reflector and the suspect changed their position. I will get on my computer later and see if what I thought I saw can be captured.

Note to self. At .07 looks like a shoulder drop.

Replying to myself. I am fairly convinced that is the backpack reflector and he changed his position while trying to do whatever with the foliage. I found a different copy on News Nation and the motion looks like a shift to camera facing side right, and a shoulder drop (where the bright is showing through the hole in the foliage in my previous post). This image is right before the (imo) shoulder drop and it looks to me like that is the zipper that briefly flashed into view. But it could have been a piece of the foliage, hard to say.

I am wondering if it isn’t another thinner mask underneath as well. Look at the dark line on the pic below. I can’t figure out what that is.

And do we think that the facial hair is dark? If it’s a mask or not?

I believe this goes to his overall sense of self. Grandiose in a sense, confident, narcissistic.
To me, the pants seem the most personal of the whole outfit. They had to fit and they do. Even the right length. MOO

I think in today's world there's a great chance clothing came from a site like Temu and if that's the case, it would be insanely difficult to track down the clothing without already having a suspect. IMO if that's the case, I would think identifying the purchase could be more likely used as evidence of premeditation & planning. The way Temu works (and I do love me some Temu & TikTok shop steals), but the way it works, it's mass produced and similar/exact dupes are sold by countless retailers that often come and go, change entire categories of items for sale, etc etc etc. And I would HIGHLY doubt China would even remotely prioritize assisting the US in an investigation like this, even if it were somehow possible.

The pants are truly intriguing to me. From the fit to the pockets to the holster placement to the "WTF is he wearing shorts underneath?", they are such an interesting choice. May end up discovering, if/when solved, that the pants were a totally innocuous decision in the long run but for right now the pants are puzzling me.

Yea maybe we brainstorm about what could be in his pocket. Why not put that in your backpack? Because he needs quick access to it would be my guess. To be used immediately to subdue. Or to be used to help gain access to home. But it’s definitely bulky.

I would maybe lean more towards a knife or something bigger than a key fob that most vehicles use now that could literally be thrown anywhere in the bag/pockets/etc since you just need to be in the vicinity of your vehicle with the key. Another thought is if you're going in with malicious intent are you worried about bringing your keys in? I would think JMO if you're going in even for just a burglary you're gonna be attempting to get in/out as quickly as possible so you may just leave the keys in the vehicle. You/any accomplices push NG in, jump in, crank, and you bolt. No need to look for keys, no fumbling. Just go.

I know when I'm in the field, I have a good 4.5-5" pocket knife that has a tiny flash light, a seat belt cutter, and a window breaker in addition to the actual blade. Definitely a multi purpose tool that would be extremely useful in a situation like this. And ironically, also purchased at Walmart.

Thought that I'm not sure we've thrown out about the pants situation:

If you're planning to dump clothing/things used, it's not unfathomable that Lantana Man has shorts on under those pants. You'd be throwing off gloves, grabbing your mask(s), unbuttoning that stupid holster that appears buttoned around the belt possibly, throw stuff in dumpsters along your route, and you've perhaps eliminated any trace evidence picked up AT the scene being on your person/in your vehicle.

Whoever mentioned the taser possibility (sorry, meant to quote it) - a taser itself isn't likely to leave bleeding wounds that would be dripping on the porch BUT...I can't imagine an elderly woman who was probably asleep NOT falling if she were tased/hit by anything. Given the elderly often bleed a lot easier and more, I think it's possible that the blood on the stoop is more likely from, for lack of a better term, an "unintentional" injury such as a fall or knock down.

THE SKI MASK

I don't know if anyone has posted much on the ski mask that the Nest cam perp on the Guthrie front porch was wearing, but once the initial shock and terror wore off after I first viewed the video footage, I was intrigued by the SKI MASK.

Just know I do not have any expertise whatsoever in clothing or ski masks, so take this for what it's worth, along with my amateurish presentation. I don't even know if the bit of digging I did, is of any help at all, but these are my observations. My opinons only.

To me, this ski mask has a 1970s- 1980s vintage vibe. I say this only because of the lighter, contrasting yarn color outlining the eye and mouth openings. I could be completely wrong on this, but I haven't been able to find SOLID COLOR masks that have the contrasting color outlining feature in newly made ski masks. One exception I found is the Line brand ski mask in black. However, the Line logo would have to be hidden in some way to not be visible in the perp footage.

If you search places like Walmart and Amazon, none of the solid colored knit ski masks that I could find, had contrasting colored stitching around the eye and mouth openings.

The next possible odd feature, might not exist at all, but to me, it looks like there is some kind of button or snap between the eyes at the bridge of the nose in the perp photo. There is a shine there that makes me think that this is a button or snap. Most all of the ski masks I've viewed lately, are just stitched together with yarn or thread, in that area between the eyes. If there is indeed a button or snap, that's a feature that I, at least, have not seen before. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of others out there. And maybe it's not a button or snap at all. It could be stitching, since the photo is grainy.

To summarize what I noticed about the ski mask, MOO:
1. Commercially made factory knit 3-hole mask
2. Solid color, no stripes or visible logos
3. Contrasting yarn color around the eye and mouth openings
4. Possible odd button or snap between the eyes at bridge of nose. I might be wrong on this feature due to grainy photo.

I hope this is OK. I’m quoting my own Ski Mask post from February 19, to bring it to the new ‘Suspect Clothing etc’ thread. I am still quite intrigued and terrified by the ski mask. I have revised some of my original ski mask post here, to reflect my thoughts over the past few weeks.

Again, these are my opinions only. I also do not have any expertise in ski masks or clothing.

IMO I still believe the knitted ski mask is vintage 1970s, 1980s, etc. I say this only because of the lighter, contrasting yarn color outlining the eye and mouth openings. I could be completely wrong on this, but I haven't been able to find SOLID COLOR ski masks that have the contrasting yarn color outlining feature around the eye and mouth openings, in newly manufactured ski masks.

In my original post I stated that the ski mask is commercially made, but that i think it is vintage. Looking at this mask, (probably much too often over the past few weeks), I am even wondering if it is vintage and hand made. Like, for example, maybe someone’s Granny made it for a kid in the 70s or 80s.

I find the contrasting colored narrow stitching around the eyes and mouth to be an odd feature. The commercially made vintage ski masks, that I’ve seen, anyway, seem to have a bit thicker width, contrasting color, machine stitching, around the eyes and mouth openings. This narrower stitching is different.

If the mask is vintage, the perp could have gotten it second hand, locally, or on eBay, Etsy, or the like. If the mask is vintage (or possibly handmade), it might have also belonged to the perps father or other relative, though that is likely a stretch. Would he really want to use an old family ski mask for this crime? Who really knows.

The next possible odd feature, as I mentioned in my previous ski mask post, might not exist at all, but to me, it looks like there is some kind of button or snap between the eyes at the bridge of the nose in the perp photo. There is a shine there that makes me think that this is a button or snap. Most all of the ski masks I've viewed lately, are just stitched together with yarn or thread, in that area between the eyes. If there is indeed a button or snap, that's a feature that I, at least, have not seen but once or twice before on ski masks. That doesn't mean there aren't plenty of others out there. And maybe it's not a button or snap at all. It could very well be protruding stitching, since the photo is grainy.

To summarize, here is what I noticed about the ski mask, MOO:
1. Could be Commercially made factory knit 3-hole mask * most likely
2. Could be handmade knit 3-hole mask
3. Could be a vintage 70s, 80s, etc, mask
4 It is a Solid color mask, no stripes or visible logos
5. There is contrasting yarn color stitched around the eye and mouth hole openings. The contrasting yarn color stitching is narrower in width compared to many masks that I’ve seen, anyway.

6. There might possibly be an odd button or snap between the eyes at bridge of nose. I could very well be wrong on this feature due to the grainy perp porch photo. What I’m seeing is probably the stitching used to sew the eye hole opening, to make two eye holes.

For those that believe there might be another mask underneath the ski mask, giving the perp, a rather creepy Mr Sardonicus-like appearance, well, anything is possible.
