The Bloody Sock

OK, without reading the last "legal" document (don't remember what is was called), I think I remember now reading that there was some blood on the top of the sock, which was some of the stuff that they want tested.
That is where they say the saliva was...on the tip of the sock. Could it be a freudian slip....she made that run herself carrying it by the tip between her teeth??? Or maybe she just carried it that way for a bit before Darin made the run.

I'm leaning toward Darin making the sock run.....
I am still wanting to know, if they did plant the sock, what good they thought it was going to do? It doesn't prove innocence or guilt. Unless it was just a dropsy, I can't figure out why they did it. So, I am leaning more towards the drop theory. Still wish they had checked that drain.

I'm thinking maybe D and D figured it would make it look like the "intruder dropped it" as he ran away....I don't know, the whole series of events beginning with the 911 call and Darlie's explanation(s) of what happened that night just does not smell right - how in the world did Darin sleep through that?! There is no way that Darin is an "innocent bystander" in all of this.

I agree 100% -they should have checked that drain! IMO

The sock has always been a somewhat puzzling piece of evidence...it's location and why it was there puzzles me anyway.

What was it used for? I think I know that answer to that question though.

The blood on the sock is interesting. There is one pure stain belonging to Devon and two stains with Devon/Damon's blood mixed. None of Darlie's blood was found on the sock. Her dna through shed skin cells was found in the sock however.

I think this blood evidence destroys the two knife theory when you think about it.

It also appears unlikely that an intruder would go from Devon to Damon dabbing their blood on the sock and not get his/her shed skin cells on it...well it does to me anyway so I welcome your thoughts and opinions.

I think the sock was used by Darlie when she stabbed the boys and I think she put where it was found. Why of course did she need to get rid of it is what puzzles me the most. Was it a plant? Was she trying to hint the intruder went that way and dropped it? or was she trying to incriminate whomever lived in the home where the sock was found. I guess we'll never know unless Darlie talks and I won't hold my breath on that happening.

Just my thoughts as always

Hi cami,
I think the sock was a plant by Darlie. I think if it had been used durning the murders it would have been soaking wet in blood. That crime was horrific. IMO there would not have been a white place left on that sock. Plus the fact of the garage not having any blood. The staged screen cutting. And why wouldn't her blood be one that sock as well? I wouldn't think an intruder would have taken the time to use 2 socks KWM? Darlie's skin cell DNA inside the sock says so much to me.

Thanks Wonders. I don't think the sock would have been that bloody because the boys had seepage wounds, not spurting wounds. I too think it's a plant though.

Hi cami,

I have a question for you because you truely know this case inside and out.
Did that sock have only one or two blood spots on it? The reason I ask is I think I've seen that it only had one(???).
I will explain my other post after you answer my question because I have a thought rolling around in my head and I don't want to appear really, really stupid.
Thanks cami.

Hi Wonders

There were six tiny stains on the sock...typed three as containing Devon's blood and two containing Damon's blood, the sixth stain did not type. One stain was pure Devon and the others were Damon/Devon mixed. I am unable to find out if one stain was pure Damon.

Thank you cami, I knew that you would know. Ahhhh no Darlie blood. (??? sixth stain ???). Does that scream out to a person or what.
Okay for my rambling thought. It will sound stupid but we don't learn unless we seek answers I guess.
Six TINY spots. In my thinking if one is slamming a knife again and again into another person there is going to be a lot more blood escaping the wounds as it has nowhere to go but out and add to that if the stabee is trying to move from the knifer there will be plenty of blood to soak that sock. Hope you understand what I'm saying. That I think it should be soaked in blood is one of the reasons I think Darlie is a monster murderer and the sock was planted. Gosh I hope I am making some since here.
So I guess I don't understand what you mean by seepage blood in your other post.
I would also like to know if they searched for an extra sock somewhere in or close to the house KWIM?
Anyway I thank you cami for the knowledge you have and share on this case.

You're very welcome Wonders. What I mean by seepage wounds is that the blood seeped out around the bodies of the boys as opposed to spurting out of their bodies. As well both had a signigicant amount of blood in their chest cavities.

I think Darlie had that sock over her hand when she stabbed the boys or had it wrapped around the knife...considering her shed skin cells were found in the toe of the sock.

I don't know about a search for a second sock...they were searching for an intruder and any evidence so maybe they were keeping their eyes open for a second sock. Darin has claimed the sock as his and fibres tie it to the house anyway.

Oh gosh cami, I did understand the difference between seepage and spurting and I had forgot to ask about the "blood in their chest cavities" so thank you for saying so.

I agree that she did use that sock in some way as per her shed skin cells.

I wonder if she will ever tell (maybe just before she meets the grim reaper?) what, how and why she did it. If it were me I would have told a long time ago and took my DP years ago. Do people linger on DR out of vanity?

No, the appeals process is very long and hers started later than most because of the transcript errors (typos and spelling errors) and several volumes had to be rescripted by another court steno.

We have to remember her shed skin cells could be in the sock from doing the laundry but since the sock had been worn, that's unlikely.

I don't think she'll ever tell, ever. I don't think she wants anyone to know she could brutally kill her own sons. Darlie is all about Darlie and what makes her life worthwhile.

I think the intruder is the Invisible Man, what do you think Wonders?

I agree. I don't think there is ANY new/true information forthcoming for her, not even til her last breath.

I think she used the sock because she was trying not leave any finger prints but then she used the whole I already picked up the knife and my finger prints are on it bit. I think the 911 call tells alot. HOwever, seeing as how she lived in the house her skin cells in the sock wouldn't be real good source of evedince. IMO

Thanks orange. I think the 911 call says a lot too, guilt all over that call-- IMO

Cami, can you find a photo of the knife imprint on the carpet? If so, does any part of the handle show in the outline? I know I've seen the photo, but can't remember the exact outline. This would make a difference in whether Darlie had the sock on her hand, or wrapped around the handle.

LOL cami...Hummmmmm? Could be by golly.

Hi guys, I have been gone a long time... I didn't realize that anyone was still chatting about Darlie??? Crack me up, I love it. I am always ready for the debate again, and Cami, I love that you sent me the VCR tape and I still have yet been able to watch it bcz my VCR puked out... I am still trying to find away to watch it hon... So let's talk about the sock?? To me it was always the one piece that kept my confused? The sock always suggested to me that possibly an intruder had been there and they were running down that alley and discarded the sock??? I still am not sure, however, I just have such a hard time believing that Darlie ran down an alley, dropped the sock and then came back and slit her throat?? Still doesn't exactly fit!! And most importantly SHE DID NOT DO ALL THIS HERSELF!!! Sorry, JMHO... Take Care All, Glad to be Back!! :waitasec: Ann

Yes, State's 111 B on Page 380 in MTJD. There does appear to be some blood on the handle area of the imprint close to the blade--it could be the blade and I can't tell..it's just a few drops===it could have run off the blade when she laid it down. The majority of the blood is on the blade and especially at the tip. Don't forget she had to p/u the blade to stab Damon again over by the hallway and the blood expert and others who did the experiments concluded the majority of the blood down on the blade is from the cut on her arm and the knife was laid down there after she inflicted her own injuries.
