“The Queen looked in high spirits as she arrived at a reception to mark the 60th anniversary of Cruse Bereavement Care at St James's Palace in London today.

Her Majesty, 93, wore a sea green and dove grey brocade cocktail dress and jacket with contrast silk bands by Angela Kelly, and the Nizam of Hyderabad diamond rose brooch for the occasion.

The charity, of which the Queen is patron, offers free support, advice and information for bereaved adults, young adults and children.

During her visit, she met people who have been instrumental in providing bereavement support following devastating events such as the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US and the Grenfell Tower fire in the UK.”

I think a lot of people are still viewing Harry as a little boy when he is not. He is a full grown man, has been for quite some time now. In fact he is only a year or two younger than me and one of my friends has just become a grandmother (yes, really! She had her 1st baby at 19, said baby has just had her first baby at 16). Meghan is almost 40 so to portray her as a naive young girl like Diana is disingenuous.

I have to keep pushing back on this bullying narrative. I've just read elsewhere that H and M need rescuing from "racist, British bullies" because we don't deserve them. This is offensive, not to mention untrue. Having an opinion on a public figure does not make someone a bully. Public appearances and interviews are just that, public. They invite scrutiny. Of course nobody should be over-personal in their criticism and racism is completely unacceptable in any form, ever. But, I'm genuinely not seeing that here. ETA: I mean on this forum specifically.

There are some really disgusting comments doing the rounds about William and Catherine as a direct result of this feud or rivalry or whatever it is. William and Catherine have been accused of being racists and there are fans of Meghan desperate to start a rumour that William cheated on his wife. A rumour that allegedly started as a tweet sent by somebody known to be close to Meghan. I can't help but feel that they have thrown petrol over an already raging inferno. I really wish that Buckingham Palace could obtain some kind or gag order for the next 6 weeks because it is all getting incredibly out of hand.
I could see someone that is friends with M putting a rumor out. It was quite obvious M was jealous of Catherine. I still have no idea why M wanted a rivalry.

Maybe the Palace does need to institute a gag order since M and H are in effect employed by them. Maybe a non-disclosure agreement is
useful here as what's to stop an angry royal
from spilling more royal secrets or rumors?

I have no idea what the motivation is and I certainly wouldn't insinuate that Meghan had anything to do with it but it is certainly vicious, whoever started it. It shows how tribal we have become in recent years, everyone feels as though they have to pick a "side" and then go out of their way to be as hideous as possible to the other side. It's very strange. I think it has also exposed how inept the usually slick Royal machine may be at dealing with social media. It is a very different beast to traditional print media. Not so easily controlled.

Well said....that is what I meant to say, but chose the wrong wording. She is in no means is a representative of the US and I do Iapologize for my misstatement.

I am very disappointed with "stiff upper lip statement". It shows a total lack of decorum.

No need to apologize at all, @Simply Southern. I didn’t mean to come down hard on you personally. The wording just pushed some buttons for me. :D

I agree about the “stiff upper lip” comment, even though it didn’t come across quite as bad when I saw the video. But it did show disrespect for a national characteristic that is particularly a characteristic of the BRF. That was not a good look and I was disappointed in Meghan too.

Taking this opportunity to say a little (or a lot) more about sharing one’s inner struggles vs having a stiff upper lip. They aren’t mutually exclusive, but the sharing publicly that her new role is so very difficult is the problem. That’s a private matter that Meghan needs to address privately, and not inflict her deep unhappiness on the general public. She can talk to her mother or someone else who married into the RF like Sophie or even a therapist.

But the reality is that Meghan has chosen a job that especially does not allow for emoting in public about how hard her job is. Maybe she could get away with talking about her emotional challenges before, but in this job it really undermines any good she can accomplish. The job is bigger than the individual, and the public needs to feel that the Royal Family serves the country no matter what. That’s what the “stiff upper lip” is all about...how can I have a positive and unselfish impact on people no matter what is going on in my personal life or during the London Blitz...and that’s a good goal for all of us IMO.

On the other hand, William and Harry sharing about how their mother’s death affected them or that they deal with depression is appropriate in promoting honesty about mental health. It is part of the human condition, not exclusive to being a prince. It promotes the idea that it’s OK to admit struggles and get help. I think if Meghan does have PPD it would be perfectly fine to share that in order to help others. Again, it’s part of the human condition.

But complaining publicly about how being in the Royal Family negatively impacts their mental health places an unfair burden on the general public and is not appropriate IMO unless they plan to remove themselves from that role, temporarily or permanently.

Quite a nice oufit. She has different shoes on than she usually wears and her ankles seem a bit puffy.

I wonder if her feet hurt

She looks lovely as always and reminds me so much of my Mom (who died at 92), even how her legs and ankles look. The shoes don’t look very comfy. I read somewhere that her knees hurt and she really needs knee surgery (replacement?) but doesn’t want to take the time off! What an amazing example she is!

I think the BRF handles social media in a perfectly capable way. Her Majesty keeps it strictly business, and no one else shares that much except H&M.

One of the big problems is it’s just not the press. Anyone with a cell phone can take pictures, videos, and send them into a tabloid who will publish, or Instagram it, tweet it, etc.

No idea how one changes society on that one. And the selfie, Twitter, insta-story, etc. is just as big in America.

Back when I was growing up unless you were on the street in public it was customary to ask permission for a photo. And very few even had cameras. And it was not even THAT long ago! My how times have changed.

As I peruse some of the online tabloidy papers, I see there must be 50-100 articles on the whole RF every day! They’ll have a picture and perceive a story to go with it. Like I remember the second Trouping of the Colors when Harry looked all stern. Then, suddenly there’s deep marital trouble. They’re doing it now with “Rift between brothers confirmed”.

So, what H&M need to understand is they are making it all Soap-Opera-like for these pubs that really make characters out of the entire family.

I’m thinking maybe some legal team got through to Meghan’s evil sister — surprised she’s not all over this. It’s been pretty quiet.

What H&M also would benefit from understanding is why ‘less is more’ has a greater impact. I can see it happening in the world, those who are all over SM are creating a lot of noise. One tunes it out. Doesn’t have much impact after a while.

Whereas spare but poignant use of platforms like Instagram can be a useful communication tool if used wisely and with purpose.

Harry would do well if he cultivated a relationship with a member of the press that he trusted. Diana did this so well. She was like a Jedi Master super woman with the press.

Yes, Megan was very disrespectful and she KNEW when she said them, the impact they would have. The words were meant to cut deep and they did. She could have edited out, but nope. She is well educated and a world traveler, prior to meeting Harry, she knows the ropes.
Not sure if she is setting this up for sympathy when they visit the US for Thanksgiving or if a prelude to moving to the US, with or without Harry. JMO

Its there JOB to be nice, the Royal family footed the bill for this trip, she was on duty and working. She and Harry were representing Britain. It was not the place to discuss THEIR mental health, but to promote goodwill.

Meghan wanted to be a princess since childhood. She sought out available English men and encouraged her friends to introduce her. She snagged a big one. Her friends have greatly benefited socially, professional, and financially from their Meghan's marriage.
MOO, I think Megan thought she would have endless access to expensive clothing, jewellery and social engagements.

The general public should not take on the burden of Meghan and Harry and in no way feel responsible for their mental health. They have the resources to receive the best mental health in the world. Lets hope they utilize them before we have a tragic event.
Quit complaining the press is at fault and take there OWN advice and GO to counseling.

I feel sure we will see a lot of Meghan once they hit the US for Thanksgiving. This was act one, of many more episodes.

JMO....

I really hope you are wrong! I hope they will go to some secluded spot with her Mom and stay out of sight. And as much as I am wary of her father, it would be nice if he could meet Harry and Archie. Even if he sells the story to the DM, I don’t think he can do any worse damage to them than they are doing themselves...especially if they don’t take our advice to stay off TV.

Interesting insight re the documentary from the royal family....

What the Royals Think About Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's Documentary

I imagine they are stunned. Its headlines in in every tabloid. They want privacy and go on TV and bare their unhappy souls. WOW....

I think the royal family will rally around Harry and Meghan. No matter what, they are family.

This really upstaged William and Catherine's wonderful trip. I loved seeing all the pictures. Catherine looked so happy. They both did.
Catherine did her first Instagram post today.

I wonder if that was the plan to do that re timing. Their last day of the African tour they announced their lawsuit. I can see more issues when PW has to rein Harry in more since he will be in control the finances when Charles steps up.

If the Sussexes are really going to LA for how will Thanksgiving, security be handled?

Will a private time with Grandma Doria be the plan???

We'll see....interesting if they go to Doria's and if other family will be in attendance. Oprah loves holidays and has a huge house, she may host them.

Hope Meghan will consider meeting with her family. Families should stick together. The royal family has struck by Harry and Meghan. Hoping Harry meets more of Meghans family, Archie needs all his relatives.

I think Oprah will invite them. Doesn't she have a 92 million dollar mansion or maybe it is 29 milling? Anyway, Oprah has plenty of room.

I still think an Ellen Show is in the works.

I do hope that Archie meets his other relatives.

UGH re Oprah's house. Thanksgiving is family time, not jet setting to mansions of washed up celebrities. If they go to a big mansion then their issues get worse.
