LOL, good question! I love how the Queen is carrying her purse. Cracks me up

I read this years ago, nice to have someone come to your rescue when in a boring conversation or if you have to use .

The Real Reason Queen Elizabeth II Carries a Purse All the Time

The Real Reason Queen Elizabeth Carries a Purse All the Time

These signals help her get out of conversations at any time she pleases. If the Queen moves her classic handbag from its normal spot on her left arm to her right arm while she’s talking with someone, her handlers know that she wants to wrap it up. Putting her bag on the floor is a sign that she needs to be saved from an uncomfortable encounter ASAP. If she’s at dinner and places it on the table, that means she wants to end the event in the next five minutes.

Master Archie!

What a perfect blend of his Mom & Dad in his sweet little face!

Archie has that determined crawling baby look. —Like he may have motered up to the camera really fast. This age is such a great time as baby discovers the freedom of mobility.

I don’t think he particularly looks like Harry as a baby, but he does look like a combo of both parents.

And he’s definitely got the bow of Meghan’s upper lip.

SO adorable!!! And how did he keep his shirt clean? :)

Clean, but staying tucked in -- whole 'nuther story.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all my colleagues on this thread, Happy Christmas to those on the 'other side of the pond,' as well as Feliz Navidad, Prospero Ano since my family now lives in New Mexico.

Like those unusual English pronunciations.

sin gin??= I forgot what word that is supposed to be.
Leicester= lester

think of the time that could be saved by getting rid of those unneeded letters when typing. Probably when speaking, too.
images
Well we do pronounce 'Leicester' as 'Lester' here too!

What's "Sin Gin"?? LOL

What's "Sin Gin"?? LOL

we have a Leicester street in MN. It is pronounced Lie ses ter.

I never knew it was Lester until I went to England.

sin Gin is the name of someone in James Bond movies, Maybe St. John?

there are other words that I was surprised as to how they are pronounced but I cannot think of a single one now.

and Buck House is an easier thing to say so you do have some things to cut down on the long words

Another thing I was astounded by but perhaps it is not true always. When going on the underground ( which we call subway) people would line up perfectly in lines. No pushing or cutting in line. This was on the stairs, I think, going down.

For all my great friends on here a gift for this holiday season...:)
True Britishness at Christmas time perfectly portrayed in all it's Victorian finest!

I share with you one of the greatest British Christmas gifts of all...
20131127__131128ae-scrooge_400.jpg

“What’s to-day!” cried Scrooge, calling downward to a boy in Sunday clothes, who perhaps had loitered in to look about him.

“Eh?” returned the boy, with all his might of wonder.

“What’s to-day, my fine fellow?” said Scrooge.

“To-day!” replied the boy. “Why, Christmas Day.”

“It’s Christmas Day!” said Scrooge to himself. “I haven’t missed it. The Spirits have done it all in one night. They can do anything they like. Of course they can. Of course they can. Hallo, my fine fellow!”

“Hallo!” returned the boy.

“Do you know the Poulterer’s, in the next street but one, at the corner?” Scrooge inquired.

“I should hope I did,” replied the lad.

“An intelligent boy!” said Scrooge. “A remarkable boy! Do you know whether they’ve sold the prize Turkey that was hanging up there?—Not the little prize Turkey: the big one?”

“What, the one as big as me?” returned the boy.

“What a delightful boy!” said Scrooge. “It’s a pleasure to talk to him. Yes, my buck!”

This is what Prince Harry is missing out on during his stay in "Canada".
Blue Moutain Ski Resort
Don't worry Harry, no one would recognize you under all that gear.

Searchmont Resort
Because you're an adventurer. You'd love this place.
Home

If you end up on the West Coast due to "hollywood" folks, you can revisit a place you've already been to:
Whistler
Home

Other than that Prince Harry, here are a few things to know about "Canada".

Christmas Eve is frantic shopping before the stores close early. Most people still work on this day.

Christmas dinner #1 after Christmas Eve service (often 4pm or 6pm). There are plenty of Anglican churches in Ontario for you to attend.

Christmas morning service is usually 8am or 9am.

Christmas Day dinner is usually in the evening sometime after 4pm.

People tend to eat turkey, dry turkey with lots of brown gravy piled on top. And since you are staying with MM's friends, that's probably what you'll have. Turkey and Ham, some mashed potatoes, bread based stuffing, gravy, brussel sprouts, and maybe a pie for dessert. Some wine, Canada dry ginger ale based punch or apple cider, and coffee (someone always asks for coffee and that's o.k.).

After dinner is usually board games, watching movies, or going to a movie.

Boxing Day is December 26th. Shop till you drop, go out to eat, go to the movies, head back home and eat again.

Ice skating, tobogganing, going for walks or drives to see everyone's Christmas lights.

If you start to miss being at home, we have a few castles in Canada. Closest would be in Ontario and Quebec.

Sorry that you are in hiding. Ontario is lovely, so is the rest of Canada.

Merry Christmas

https://nypost.com/2019/12/24/prince-andrew-sends-christmas-card-with-photo-of-dogs-butt/

Seriously? Can someone, anyone help this guy?! A picture of a dog butt?

Andrew doesn’t have the skills or the energy to produce a Christmas card. He’s far too pompous to do something like this.

It has all the class and grace and sophistication of Sarah Ferguson. ( ie: None)

I would have thought Eugenie and Jack would have wanted their own, more appropriate Christmas card.

It certainly isn’t going to benefit public thought about Andrew.
I hope this doesn’t end up backfiring and negatively affect hapless Beatrice’s shrinking wedding.

5 UK Christmas Traditions That I, An American,Love, And 4 That I Simply Don't Get

Just spotted this: are crackers, advent calendars and pantomimes just a British thing?

Crackers are fun! And, the advent calendars I remember were tied into the services during advent.

From your link - wow, the high street decor is sooooo beautiful!

There are some English traditions here, I think. Definitely New England, points on the east coast. Episcopal church choirs. Caroling services are magical.

Pantomimes... I imagine theatrical crowds and families, kids might break out into theater, or song?

I always like a good Nutcracker marathon. There are some really varied, amazing interpretations from all over the world.

Happy Christmas to all!

The Duchess of Cambridge has taken an adorable new family photograph of Prince William kissing Prince Louis on the cheek.

The black and white photo shows the Duke of Cambridge with their youngest child, while Princess Charlotte and Prince George look towards the camera.

The duke wears a flat cap as he holds on closely to his son in the photo, which was taken by the duchess, a keen photographer, earlier this year in Norfolk.

Princess Charlotte also appears to be holding on to her younger brother as she stands behind him, while Prince George sits next to them in a chair as he cheekily smirks at the camera.
