Royal courtiers finally got a goodwill message to one of Prince Philip's car crash victims last night – three days late.

Amid mounting anger at his failure to apologise to the two women injured, Buckingham Palace said contact had at last been made.

After a farcical failure to get in touch last week, the Queen's private office scrambled to make amends over the weekend by trying to call the victims, yet was still unable to confirm if the duke had actually apologised.

The Queen has intervened following Prince Philip’s horror car smash that landed two women and a nine-month-old baby in hospital.

The 92-year-old monarch instructed her most trusted lady-in-waiting to contact passengers of the other car in the collision, after complaints that the Duke of Edinburgh had not apologised.

Palace sources confirmed attempts to call them were not made until Saturday, at least 48 hours after the crash.

Mary Morrison phoned smash victim Emma Fairweather – who broke her wrist in the collision – to deliver the monarch’s “warmest good wishes following the accident”.

But there was still no message from Prince Philip or even a mention of the Duke.

I don’t know what else the crash victims can expect from the Royals except compensation for injury and the damage to their vehicle.

Major faux pas on royalty! Baby in hospital, the queen tells her "Ladies in Waiting" to clean up the mess. Meanwhile, Prince Philip is out driving around in his new Range Rover.

These people have zero class.

Prince Philip has been condemned on Good Morning Britain this morning and has received very bad press in most papers. I don’t understand why the Royals are so bad at managing crisis or scandals in 2019.

It has been reported on Good Morning Britain that the Lady who broke her wrist is going to be off work two months and is highly likely to file a personal injury claim.

She certainly should be compensated somehow. I’m not sure how your auto insurance works, but here, if you are injured in an auto accident, your insurance company will file a claim with the at-fault person’s insurance company. Sometimes it ends up in court without the injured party doing anything directly. This could get interesting if Prince Phillip or his insurance is sued, if he has any.

I think this will get settled quite quickly there is absolutely no chance of Prince Philip giving evidence in court. They have had enough bad publicity as it is. The cases can also take a while to go to court.

The Duke of Edinburgh's crash 'wouldn't have happened' had there been a royal protection officer in his Land Rover at the time, according to Princess Diana's former bodyguard.

Ken Wharfe also said the royal family had all been told to wear seatbelts as the 97-year-old Duke faced renewed criticism after being spotted driving without one 48 hours after the crash on Thursday.

He told Good Morning Britain: 'When the seat belt legislation came in every member of the royal family was told, "It's the law, you have to wear a seat belt".'

Interesting. What would happen to any other 97 year old citizen? I know what would happen here...

1. License suspended pending review.
2. Ticket for improper lookout, regardless of conditions. If you can't see due to glare, you don't pull out into the road.

I agree with your feelings on this matter entirely. The police will do nothing and neither will the DVLA. The Prime Minister has to meet The Queen for tea once a week to discuss matters can you imagine how that would go if the Duke of Edinburgh was prosecuted for dangerous driving.

I bet that the tea party agenda will definitely have Prince Philip on discussion. If for no other reason, than to dicuss security issues.

Royal staff working with Prince Philip are said to be "terrified" of the Duke who is "digging his heels in" when it comes to concerns over his driving, it is claimed

The claims come after the 97-year-old was involved in a smash near the royals' Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

'Terrifying' Prince Philip is 'digging his heels in' over driving worries

The staff are in a very difficult position and it is outrageous the way the Duke of Edinburgh is behaving.

97 years old and still not acting like a grown up, but rather like a spoilt entitled bratty teenager.

It's crap like this that makes me not like the royal family.

Maybe the royals should take advice from commoners on this issue of a 97 year old still driving - we are expected to end the driving careers of our parents because we are the intimate persons best able to judge their decline in abilities. It is not easy to tell Mom or Dad "that's it, no more driving," but it is a responsibility. I see this as just another failure of Prince Charles, that at his late age he is not mature enough to tell his father to stop driving. And! These people are the extreme in wealth and protection with drivers and cars on call 24/7! Prince Philip has no reason to drive himself at all other than selfishness, stubborness, and senility. Man up, Prince Charles, tell your Daddy, "No, No."

Where's the emoticon holding the "Good Post" sign???

(My Dad parked his big ole' RV at the age of 82, still doing fine with regular-sized vehicles.)

From the Good Morning Britain interview this morning with a former bodyguard of Princess Diana and a Former Palace Press Secretary they said Prince Philip is a very difficult person who doesn’t listen to anybody even the Queen and he does what he wants. Prince Charles is said to have had a difficult relationship with his father in the past so I don’t know if he is able to stand up to him. I don’t know what the solution is to stop him driving apart from taking his license and car off him.

Not to mention that Phillip's wife is the frigging QUEEN.

So it's obvious to me there must be some enabling going on there.

And as much as I like HRH, I realize she equally has a sense of entitlement (one would have to, in order to believe they have a divine right to rule). But I did think after Diana's death that a) HRH would have taken onboard the wisdom of using seat belts and b) the RF would have learned from the PR clusterf**k they created for themselves in the aftermath of Diana's death.

They are just lucky no one was more seriously injured or even killed in this latest episode. But I fear even that would not get these people to act like they live in the 21st century instead of the 12th.

And he should not be behind the wheel of a car, period. Just imagining him taking George and Charlotte and H&M's kiddo around the palace grounds for a "spin" makes me shudder.

Hi @Laughing! I didn't find a "good post" smiley but I did find this one for you:

On the right side of the page under categories, you can also click on smiley faces, which is where I found the one I posted above.

Credit goes to @Niner (IIRC) for posting that link a few months ago. I forgot I had bookmarked it!
