Can someone explain to me the purpose of a country having a Royal Family? It's never made any since to me.

Irritates me no end when pointing out hypocrisy is deemed as bullying. Harry is in no way vulnerable, hes a rich Prince. Bullying should be reserved for actual bullying.
If we are "bullying" Harry by calling him out about taking private planes then surely he is "bullying" us when he talks about reducing our carbon foot print. If the Cambridges were talking about mental health one week and then cyber bullying someone the next it would be perfectly normal to criticize them for it to me its the same with Harry and the environment.

The thing is we do need people to talk about the environment and we need people of influence to lead the way but when people who make themselves out to be an expert can't even be bothered to make small lifestyle choices its a problem. The fact that this even having any kind of minor economic impact on Harry is annoying to me like if Elton is paying for the private jet why couldn't Harry put his money where his mouth is and pay for the carbon offsets, it won't do much but it would be something at least.

I read this article the other day about how rich people can afford to have "luxury beliefs" that will earn them social cache without ever having an impact on them. I don't think climate change is a luxury belief but I doubt Harry will ever be at the supermarket trying to decide if he should buy the cheapest bananas or slightly more expensive ones that don't come wrapped in plastic or the super expensive organic ones and scrimp elsewhere.
Or how about the ethics of eating strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries from Chile during mid-winter?

They all had to be package and flown to the UK and US/Canada. There is considerable more spoilage when they are transported and distributed long distances.

Is this the proper thing to do for this planet?

Should restauraunts, and chefs, and on-line influencers be promoting eating fruits out of season that have to be transported by fossil fuel consuming, carbon dioxide producing flights?

Princess Beatrice is set to marry multi-millionaire property magnate Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi 'as early as next spring’, a royal expert has claimed.

Engagement rumours have been swirling around the Queen’s granddaughter, 31, and the Italian property developer, 35, for months, with bookies suspending betting on an announcement last month.

Now Ingrid Seward, editor of Majesty magazine, has told Hello!: 'They’re going to get married – I was told by a member of the family. I think a wedding as early as next spring or summer is likely.'

The royal started dating the father-of-one, who has since moved in with Beatrice at St James Palace, in the autumn of 2018.

It would be good to know if this is a fact or a rumor that someone is trying to force into a fact.

This might be enough to get Sarah Ferguson back from her Spanish hideout and onto UK soil

I would love to know exactly what he told the Google Eco-Ultra Wealthy Festival about selfie-taking tourists ruining the planet.

IF he said that, it was an extremely stupid statement given who he is and his travels. And I'll bet many at the Google-Fest make a lot of money off of selfie-taking tourists.

And it just reeks of his royal privilege.

This isn't bullying. This is confronting the guy who made a splash about taking an electric vehicle to his wedding reception, yet flies fossil fuel consuming planes at the drop of a hat.

Yeah. It's time to call out the Luxury Privilege in the eco-war.

Evidently in the UK a textile mill is incapable of opening unless a rich person who is not in the textile business shows up and shakes some hands and smiles and waves to the crowd

I remember as a kid during the energy crisis Jimmy Carter saying that tonight his family was going to have dinner under candlelight. Everyone knew that was crap but that's what most celebrities do. There not about caring for social issues but the image of caring about social issues.

Food miles are a huge problem and to me that is something tangible that Harry could have an influence over, its promoting British farming etc. Rather than scold people for going on a foreign holiday once a year why not educate young people about seasonal eating or something.

At least theres a human health benefit to eating fruit, its cut flowers transported huge distances that drive me most up the wall.

...Are the two black horses seen in the above photos a specific breed? They’re magnificent and I’m in love with their hairy ?ankles?
*Ignore if this has already been answered please.

:D Highland Ponies (of course)

One's bonny Balmoral beauties: The Queen's Highland ponies are as tough as the granite that the Scottish castle is built from

The Queen’s Highland ponies which she stables at Balmoral are as tough as the granite that the Scottish castle is built from.

Hardy and sturdy, they are as adept at carrying the monarch for her daily ride as they are at carrying a shot stag down from the hills.

‘They’re all bred for working, but they also need to be quiet to ride and handle and have good conformation,’ says the manager of the Queen’s Highland pony stud, Sylvia Ormiston....

Every morning when the Queen is in residence, some of the ponies are led near the castle and she surveys them from her vantage point at a first-floor window.:)

:cool:The 'hairy' feet are called the 'feather'
It's common in all British & most northern European breeds of heavy horse (working horses) for protection from the natural boggy, wet terrain they were used to in ye-olde-days.

*No Google I definitely did NOT mean "Clydesdale 'DRAFT'

"draught" anyway!

Oh I LOVE the mental image of the Queen gazing at those beautiful Higland ponies in the morning from her windows. It’s evident they bring her much joy.

That’s for the correction of my hairy feet description. I knew the massive Clydesdales had them but I had no idea they were a characteristic of the British heavy horse. I love them all with their feathers

Yes, I think it’s about time we confront Costco and other vendors of Peruvian flowers (USA) and Kenyan flowers ( UK, EU) about the flower miles.

Next, I’ll take on glittter as a terrible pollutant ( just now getting Xmas catalogues)

They might as well get on with it then..... Evidenly Beatrice & Eduardo were just at Balmoral with Andrew & Ferguson. Thought to be for the Queen to meet him even though Beatrice does not need The Queen’s permission to wed ( unlike her father). However, the events with her father ( and mother, to a lesser degree) are just going to dominate any developments with her wedding. The wry comments about Andrew giving her away in cuffs have already started.

Maybe this is just karma for wearing that ridiculous thing on her head to William and Catherine’s wedding

The Sussex’s visited Sir Elton John and flew back by private plane
( & all the many, many more posts on this topic... :p )

Hmmm...I wonder what our future KING is thinking of all this?
“The greatest crime of all is that we knew what we were doing – informed consent being the basis of democracy,
should we not reject informed destruction as the basis of catastrophe."

“And it appears we have only belatedly, partially and somewhat reluctantly come to the realisation that our planet does not refer to the hour of 🤬🤬🤬🤬 sapiens, but rather to the whole astounding miracle of life on earth"

Royals attend the global premiere of Silverback’s Our Planet
Sir David Attenborough welcomed the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex to the Global Premiere of “Our Planet” at the Natural History Museum in London, on April 4th, 2019.
Royals-2.jpg
“It is also a much awaited opportunity to pay tribute to and thank Sir David Attenborough for all he has done over so many years to bring the wonder, the fascination and increasingly the desperate plight of the natural world to our attention...

“The film of Our Planet, so astonishingly crafted by Silverback Films and with the support of WWF and Netflix, will I pray, help to provide an essential means of reaching and teaching hundreds of millions of people around the world.

Charles warns Commonwealth leaders

The Prince of Wales has warned global leaders they have 18 critical months to solve climate change and restore the balance of nature, ensuring the survival of the human race.

The Prince, addressing foreign ministers from around the Commonwealth, said they were "uniquely positioned" to lead the world by example, urging them to match ambition with “the practical action that is required”.

*2007* TIME's celebration of heroes spotlights the most innovative and influential protectors of the planet

His future subjects haven't always treated the Prince of Wales with the respect one might expect. They guffawed in 1986 when the heir to the British throne told a TV reporter that he talked to his plants at his country house, Highgrove, to stimulate their growth...

Although he has gradually gained international recognition as one of the world's leading conservationists, many Brits still think of him as a crank who talks to plants. This year, as it happens, South Korean scientists proved that plants really do respond to sound. So Charles was ahead of the game there, too.:D

The silence from the House of Wales is perplexing

Maybe Harry fell asleep during the movie

There is far too much lip service given to this issue: Harry and Sir Elton providing a recent example and Google making a mockery of the entire issue

I believe the boys are wearing the Balmoral tartan.*

* I am not an expert but thanks to the kind postings of others, my guess is that any gray tartan worn by a member of the royal family at Balmoral is the Queen’s favorite Balmoral tartan.
Oh it's much more 'complex' than that :D
Basically 'Tartan' is the design or pattern.
Colours used can vary.

SCOTTISH REGISTER OF TARTANS – FAQs

Q - What is tartan?

A tartan is a design which is capable of being woven consisting of two or more alternating coloured stripes which combine vertically and horizontally to form a repeated chequered pattern.
The tartan pattern is traditionally known as the sett of the tartan.

"A tartan pattern is a geometric design, made up of blocks of solid colour which join on the diagonal, radiating across the fabric like spokes, and with each block of solid colour surrounded by blocks of mixed colours."

My understanding was that the use of the colors was very restricted in olden times, and supposed to be based on plant dyes that were distinctive to the region.

If that’s really the case, it’s amazing all tartans aren’t the color of muddy sheep that got stuck in a bank of ferns

LOL "the color of muddy sheep that got stuck in a bank of ferns"

Yeah the pattern's the same but that's the main reason for why the various colour ranges, due to whatever 'dye' would become available over time.
These are generally called Ancient, Modern, Weathered options
Scottish Tartan FAQ | VisitScotland

Then you've got practicality... :p
You have the 'dress' or 'hunting' option

And that's only the very basics :D

These's are good articles with some history & background explained in a nice, easy to understand way

*ETA - I hasn't even thought about the different meaning of some words in American or British 'English'
