Wow, the hacking case just got a lot more interesting! They're saying that Harry is suing for Diana's phone being hacked in the 90's among other things and if its able to be proven that evidence was destroyed the historic nature of the claims will be allowed.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Prince Harry Set to Claim Princess Diana was Hacked by The Sun AND The Mirror - which then 'Covered Up' — Byline Investigates

Prince Harry: tabloids hid hacking crimes for 20 years

"Legal experts have suggested the duke would have a problem bringing the claim. Under the Limitation Act, there is a six-year window from when a claimant becomes aware of the privacy breach to bring a claim."
"However, it is clear that the duke’s claim extends at least a decade beyond that 2007 case. As with the other group claims, the duke alleges evidence was destroyed and concealed and so any limitation defence would fail under Section 32 of the Act if it were shown to have concealed wrongdoing."
"“This is far more serious than just phone-hacking because these allegations involve perverting the course of justice, perjury and fraud against senior executives and senior editors,” a source familiar with the claim explained. This would shift the focus away from the actions of individual journalists to the higher echelons of the newspaper organisations."

"In 2015, the Crown Prosecution Service said there was “no evidence” NGN had deleted emails to pervert the course of justice. Both News UK and Reach UK, owner of the Mirror, declined to comment."

I cannot see this claim being successful if it is going back to the late 1990s they are wasting money on legal fees.

Prince Harry Launches All-Out War on The Sun and Mirror—and Piers Morgan—in Phone Hacking Cases
Prince Harry has decided to launch an all-out war against the British tabloid press—and Piers Morgan could become one of its most high-profile casualties...

A former royal correspondent told the Daily Beast: “Harry is making himself newsworthy. He seems to have lost the plot with the press. This is a very aggressive and odd move and is obviously being driven by the way the press has covered Meghan. This is payback.”

Prince Harry’s legal actions could not only lead to him taking the stand, but also a return to the British courts of the main players of the original British phone hacking scandal... including the renamed News International, which publishes Murdoch's British newspapers

One Mirror source told The Daily Beast: “Piers is at the crux of this. Harry is incensed over his constant columns on Mail Online and his TV attacks on GMB. Piers does not hold back in his contempt for them.”...

The source said: “The papers were lodged a week ago. Since 2011 there have been a steady stream of civil cases, and usually they don’t actually have direct evidence of phone hacking, o_O? they just say, ‘Well, in 2005 you published this story that you couldn’t possibly have known about unless you had hacked my phone.’

“I suspect this is similar. Now we’re being traduced as phone hackers but in the vast majority of cases someone had actually told us the story and we hadn’t hacked anyone’s phone. Usually the lawyers just settle anyway, because it’s easier, but for some reason Harry has obviously decided he wants to make a big public statement out of it...

“You definitely get the impression he is doing this without consulting anyone, just like he did with the statement this week and the action against the Mail on Sunday. He is just launching his own actions and he is going to drag the whole royal family down with him.

Prince Harry's lack of emotional maturity is showing. It is beyond obvious he has not had healing from his mother's death, the years of his identity/what is my purpose crisis, and other stuff we don't know about yet.
Why didn't he launch these lawsuits while he was still single and engaged in some really dumb activities? Why now.
He really needs to be smart like his aunt and cousins and give up his royal titles. His cousins lead a simple and normal life. Harry doesn't need a title and has millions of dollars that is personally his.
Please Harry, disappear for a while. Take a few lessons from Aunt Anne, do your charity work and duties quietly. Become a home body w/your wife and hang out with the baby at your cottage for a few years. And <modsnip> STOP reading online comments, and tabloid stories.

Well Done Harry
You've just presented that open can to the entire worlds media now, all wrapped in a bow.

Where's William in all this?
Isn't he Diana's next-of-kin?

In fact, why isn't there any of Diana's or his family with him on this? Has anyone stepped up to shown their support even?

Diana’s fatal attraction’: The myth that Prince Harry’s emotional statement ignores

Easter, 1993. Prince William and Prince Harry were on school holidays when their mother Diana, Princess of Wales decided to take them to Thorpe Park...

Images of the Princess and her two beaming sons drenched, on a log ride have long since passed into icon status.

This was the then-32-year-old royal at her relatable best, just another mum enjoying a wonderful day out with her kids.

But the reason that the world knows what happened that day... was because someone had tipped off the press — and that someone was, allegedly, Diana.

This week, the Princess of Wales’ relationship with the media is back in the news after Prince Harry released an extraordinary and personal statement announcing ...

Diana’s turbulent relationship with journalists started when she warily agreed to let a photographer snap her while at Young England nursery in 1980 ...

...Diana built up something of a relationship with the cadre of mostly men who, armed with cameras,...
They bore witness to “Shy Di” morphing into the megawatt royal superstar who wowed everyone from world leaders to Mother Teresa

... What weaponry did she have at her disposal, faced with going up against a powerful, wealthy foe?

The media.

Diana intrinsically understood the power of the press, to change perceptions and to wrest back control over her narrative. It has been widely reported that she would regularly tip off the press when she was appearing in certain, private settings such as with her sons that day, when they went to Disney World in Florida or when she was undertaking a philanthropic mission.

These instances helped solidify her public image as that of a caring, joyful parent, making Charles seem even more dreary and musty by contrast...

In 1991, she took the nuclear option,
turning to journalist Andrew Morton to share her true story, with his bombshell book...

Clearly, she had well and truly mastered the art of using the media to her own ends. But,..

Harry, having witnessed the harassment Diana suffered, still feels a deep and abiding dislike for the press. However, the full picture is more complicated...

snipped by me-

Why didn't he launch these lawsuits while he was still single and engaged in some really dumb activities? Why now.
...??? because he wasn't involved with chaos
causing MM. ??
I'm convinced she's behind this, and urging him on. Her entire young life was embroiled in family chaos. This is her norm.
She doesn't enjoy the status quo with peace and love flowing in a family. It's foreign to her.
So she has to create conflict to get her emotional stimulation. Doubt she can get much from Harry as he seems a bit stilted in
the Emotional IQ department.
This will not end well. Then we'll hear about how the press/media caused the disruption of this marriage, blah blah. When it was all predictable based on the tactics Harry and Megs are taking at the moment.
Megs wants to match the world wide popularity of Diana, she's already entered the
contest. MOO. Those shoes are too big for her
to fill. Give it up Megs.

I doubt if many are interested in Africa. Many people think Africa is a country.

A lawsuit is much more tantalizing. Good works? Not so much

Well, I have read Bishop Tutu’s writings and consider him a divine spiritual leader. So, I was very pleased to see him looking so well when he met baby Archie. He quit traveling some time ago, he said in an interview. Too stressful for his age.

And I also think the USA cares very deeply about So. Africa —we joined the uprising against apartheid, and witnessed transformation. There are parallel lines in our history so I think many know and care.

And, the first part of the trip was delightful, and was the news. Covering their good work.

It was Harry’s timing to release a statement and lawsuit when they did. And that eclipsed the end of their trip. Their PR is really choppy because their choices are choppy. The contrast to other Royal’s PR is stark.

It is looking like rebel without a cause, rebelling on a road trip.

I think a lot of this has to do with maturity. It’s not a good look when Harry snaps at a reporter like he did —comes off as impetuous and spoiled. He needs experience.

Charles and Diana handled the press differently. Harry could look to his father for answers and get some tips on how to stay out of the line of fire.

I don’t think most Americans could name two African countries.

Am I remembering wrong all of the vitriol of the days of Charles, Diana and Camilla? It went on and on and on and still goes on

I wonder how people would feel if someone (s) were hacking into their private conversations and scrutinizing everything that they do and commenting on if it is right, wrong, too much, etc.

I think that he is trying to stop the insanity. He is saying that he is a human being and so is his wife.

This is the modern way. Just as finally the world is saying that women are not objects and possessions, Harry is saying that they are human beings.

He cannot run away. The press will not leave him alone. Look what le lengths the press goes to to get pictures of the Cambridge children. Really, how exciting is a picture of a child. Apparently to many it is. $$$$$$$$.

I enjoy reading and seeing the pictures of the Royals as they seem a breath of fresh air in these troubled times.

Of course, not Andrew , which gives me great sadness.

It reminds of soap opera stars . People who watched soap operas and thought that they had personal relationships with the characters.

I love when people try to make a positive difference especially when you see so many people of privilege only catering to their own selves.

That’s a sad referendum on America, especially since we had a popular president with roots and family in Kenya.

Sure, Charles and Di very troubled, but what’s the point? There’s a lot of water over the bridge from their history.

I think the whole point is all the royals have a relationship with the press.

And Harry is handling it his way right now.

Diana was a true star and she had the press in the palm of her hand. Even through her troubled times.

Understanding a monarchy or a history as rich as the BRF, or royal protocol is perhaps the thing that not many Americans understand very well.

“Prince Diana's former private secretary has warned Meghan Markle and Prince Harry about their 'blunderbuss' attack on the media, warning it could easily backfire.

Patrick Jephson, who served the royal from 1988 to 1996, said public sympathy was 'notoriously volatile', and the long legal battle and potential court appearances would be a 'punishing trek'.

He also criticised Harry's extraordinary personal statement announcing his decision to sue the Mail On Sunday, comparing its 'borrowed invective' to the anti-Press rants of PDT.”

Interesting article by Diana's former Press Secretary. This part stood out to me:

"royal people have to learn the difference between bullying and criticism, between sarcasm and irony. It’s part of the historic deal that’s overseen by the British media holding to account public figures whose lives are subsidised by (usually) benign British taxpayers."

I was by Diana’s side in her press battles. I know the risks involved for Harry and Meghan | Prince Harry | The Guardian

This hits the nail on the head. I struggle to find the evidence of this bullying and the racist undertones to which he has repeatedly referred. (FYI I'm talking about the British popular press NOT social media.) Sure, there has been criticism but it's not really been un-deserved. Harry seems to think that the press should only be printing gushing reviews about them both and anything else is bullying. It's likely that people who dislike her do so because they don't connect with her persona, or her "woke-ness", not because they're raging racists.

The press have been pretty kind to Harry over the years, there's a lot out on social media and other forums that the press could have picked up on but they have left well alone. He would do well to remember which side his bread is buttered.

Diana learned to manage with the press by manipulating it.

Harry can't seem to fathom that he would be better off finding a way to manage it rather than using a full 0n-attack with a legal battering ram. He's now put Piers Morgan into the headlines for eons and guaranteed a higher profile and likely more $$$$ for his commentary. Anyone who has read his commentary knows Piers is a jerk, but this isn't going to silence him. This is a bad backfire, Harry.

And I don't think Meghan is helping at all, she who is supposed to be media-savy because she was an actress.

Harry's family are full of royals who have found a way to deal with the press and live with the press. Be modest, be polite, be uninteresting to the point of being dull. As the Queen Mother said: "Never complain never explain."

From the PR high of the royal wedding to 17 months later and he is dissing his royal duties to the Foreign Service and the people on their Africa trip to issue an overly aggressive lawsuit.

Yup, sounds like big-league unresolved emotional issues and a partner who seems to only encourage the problem.

It's also apparent he did not ask councel of his father on this nor likely The Queen. Harry and Markle's lawsuits bascially set them up for a decade of war with the press. And there are no winners in this conflagration

Harry and tantrums? Seriously? The US has someone with tantrums. Harry is expressing common decency. I applaud him for it.

I doubt if he has any feelings about not being King except joy.

The Queen had plenty of things said about her. Let us reminisce about the rumors of who is the father of Andrew.

Diana had horrendous things said about her. Kate and William as well.

And of course Harry had plenty in his younger days.

Princess Margaret. Wow.That was filled with gossip to the max.

And of course, Princess Anne.

Perhaps Harry is the ploy to get attention off of Andrew. That is something where there should be concern.

Harry and Meghan are hardly anything in comparison to the meltdowns in the tabloids such as the horror of selling Harrod’s.

It. is strange that memories are so short with the foibles of the monarchy.

Someone posted how much money they pull in for England. Not bad.

BBM: Henry VIII still pulls in a fair few quid and he's been dead for centuries. England has a rich and varied history over thousands of years that Harry and Meghan could not possibly take any credit for.

On the whole, we love our monarchy which is why we feel so passionately about protecting it.

There is a republican movement in the UK but it's small. Think of it this way though, British citizens; some struggling to feed their own kids, are compelled by law, to give money to a family of multi millionaires to keep them in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed. In return, we expect a certain standard of behaviour and respect towards the British public and it's institutions.

I cannot see this claim being successful if it is going back to the late 1990s they are wasting money on legal fees.
Yeah, not only has he pi$$ed off the media in the U.K. now it's gone global.
There's undertones in about every report across the globe.

He's basically called Murdoch a Mob Boss & his Media Empire a crime syndicate. -No Comment -

"The Duke of Sussex accuses The Sun and The Mirror of behaving more like organised crime groups than newspapers.

His claim will. like the others, include allegations that the papers’ editors and executives mounted an industrial-scale cover-up of serious criminality for more than twenty years."

Which he had the audacity to publicly release by issuing a written statement from an official Royal Family account while using the official Royal titles - HRH The Duke & Duchess of Sussex

The supposed accusations;
Prince Harry will allege that editors, lawyers, managers and reporters at The Sun concealed voicemail interception from the very beginning of its use in the mid to late 90s.?

How does this even begin to compare with the previous hacking scandals, like for instance, the proven interception of the voicemail of Milly Dowler?

Which when concluded resulted in penalties such as...
Cleared: Rebekah Brooks was cleared in 2014 of phone hacking after a criminal trial at the Old Bailey, and later reinstated as CEO of Rupert Murdoch’s News UK
Not wanting or attempting to defend her ;)
But...
How many times can she be charged, put on trial & cleared? Each time a new victim accuses her?

I seriously doubt there could possibly be anything to surpass the actual evidence & proof of everything in the previous investigations.

What exactly is he trying to achieve here? :(

After every scandalous relevation, documented proof, charges & penalties, years & years of trial, inquiries. The disgraced collapse of the 168 year old News of the World...

Resulted in this...

Very good point!
Have they really thought about the long game here? What do they expect to garner?
The press will forever scrutinize their every move and probably never again give compliments to their projects or works.
They could become the long term black sheep
of the royal family.
