This isn’t just in response to you Mickey, but a general observation....
I understand what your saying about hypocrisy, but I don’t think we have to take what they say about the “carbon footprint” personally like a critical lecture and feel offended if they occasionally don’t live up to their own standards. Who of us does? But at least they are raising awareness and trying to find solutions.
I’m not a fan of that dress or much else that Jessica Mulroney recommends for her. But there were plenty of other black dresses at the wedding that weren’t wonderful either. And I doubt she paid full price. And for all we know they contribute other money quietly to African villages or perhaps sell the dress and contribute the money. It might be nice to assume the best...but no one does.
Harry and Meghan are high profile and I do think the work they do has value because of the attention they are able to bring to it. A lot of well-known and wealthy people have causes they expend time and money on and lend their names to, even within the Royal Family, but also people such as Bill and Melinda Gates and other philanthropists. They aren’t scrutinized for “hypocrisy” the way Harry and Meghan are. Harry hasn’t been criticized for his projects until he married Meghan. So Meghan seems to be the problem for people. They’ve decided they dislike her for whatever reason and she can do nothing right. Wouldn’t it be better to stand back and give her a chance instead of just going with a knee jerk negative reaction?
I’ve never been a fan of her wardrobe. But I admire her for seeing a need and doing something without a lot of fanfare. For example, the cookbook that she got published to benefit the Grenfell fire survivors kitchen that serves meals. She wasn’t tooting her horn during the process. No one even knew she was in the kitchen cooking under their direction. Then she used her fame to sell it. And it’s a wonderful cookbook.
Not all her projects are going to great, but she’s a human being with causes she cares about. She’s working hard. If some flop, that’s life. But for her to be constantly torn down is just plain mean IMO.
