Byrne says Gerard even demonstrated to the jury using a highlighter how he cut himself. #badenclay

Byrne says if they are not shaving scrapes, what are their significance in this trial? #badenclay

So now they are SCRAPES and not CUTS?

That's his account. Contrary to that you've heard from a series of experts - defence #badenclay

What caused them? And if they are not shaving scrapes what is their significance? Defence #badenclay @couriermail

Sarah Elks ‏@sarahelks 53s
Two defence questions re 'scrapes': What caused them?

Tessa Scott ‏@TessaScott9 57s

Byrne is talking about the forensic experts who looked at the scratches on Gerard's face. #badenclay

Kate Kyriacou @KateKyriacou · 9s
Byrne says the jury has the transcripts. He's not going to take them through all the evidence from those experts. #badenclay

Why not? Not to your liking?

You might consider Dr Stark, NSW police forensics expert, was very well qualified - defence #badenclay

  • #809
Open and candid! New words to describe GBC.

a first!.... how odd that Gerard saved his open and candid nature ABOUT SHAVING GOUGES!!

  • #810
I wouldn't say sticking to an implausible story because you can't wear a paper bag over your head while the police investigate is anything to shout about.

Defence's Byrne: note carefully the limitations experts place on their evidence about the 'shaving scrapes' #badenclay

I want you to focus on the opinions, and their limitations - defence #badenclay

I never knew that to be a good defence lawyer was mostly about spin. Do the best ones do marketing degrees first so they know how to sell?
:scared:
Mostly tongue in cheek

Dr Stark agreed clinical examination with supporting documents was the gold standard - defence #badenclay

\Are they joking re significance? WOW

It is a rhetorical question, leading to further explanation. The defence certainly aren't suggesting that the scratches are of no significance.

IMO he put down a tarp or plastic to lay Allison on hence no plant material or evidence of DNA an probably put plastic on his drivers seat and floor too when he returned to the car after disposing of her body so as not to leave evidence of his shoe prints etc

Maybe Allison had her friends dresses laid out in the back and he just dropped her body onto them. Who knows, but he had a few hours after the phone was back on charge to tidy whatever needed to be tidy and get rid of the evidence

IMOO
The Jury will be just about Over this...

Over this again ... remember the long monologue they had to listen to from Byrne immediately before GBC took the stand, then they heard it again with careful embellishments from GBC. I suspect some of the jury at least will be struggling to keep it together there - wouldn't you just want to stand up and scream ENOUGH ALREADY! I dont envy their positions at all.

Byrne says the first expert, Dr Margaret Stark, could not 100 per cent say the marks were caused by fingernails. #badenclay

Byrne says he doesn't shirk from the fact that Dr Stark said she believed they were from fingernails. #badenclay

3:13pm: Mr Byrne has turned his attention to the injuries which appeared on Mr Baden-Clay's face on the morning he reported his wife missing.

"[He] never made any attempt to conceal the marks on his face," Mr Byrne said.

"He was the one who called police to his home on the morning of the 20th of April. His face was there for all to see. There was no attempt to conceal it."

Mr Baden-Clay dismissed the two abrasions on his right cheek as shaving cuts. But four forensic experts, who testified at the trial, said the abrasions were more consistent with fingernail scratches.

Mr Byrne said Mr Baden-Clay explained the two shaving cuts in an "open and candid fashion". He said Mr Baden-Clay's explanation remained consistent throughout the police investigation into his wife's disappearance and the trial.

"What is abundantly clear is that clearly Gerard Baden-Clay was not concerned about those marks. He never gave an alternate explanation," he said.
