The Dixie Chicks

  • #21
I don't know-while they didn't express their opinions in the most tactful way I don't think they shouldn't say what they think just because they didn't have a popular opinion. They expressed their dipleasure with the president-it's not like they went to Iraq and sold them state secrets. And honest to god-i find having Bush as the president is embarassing on a daily basis.

I will not discuss politics here. I have never have and will not. REP or DEm in as President we need to support. But instead of the Dixie Chicks turning thier backs to the Guys and Gals serving our Country. they should have supported the Troops right or wrong. I for one will never turn my back to one. They chosed to serve our Country and defend the RED WHITE AND BLUE.And they knew what might happen. That is what PO me to no end with Sheehan Her son knew what might happen and he still felt it was right to sign up.

I'd of put the Dixie Chicks to shame cussing the Prez when i filled my vehicle up with gas this week.

So I would buy the new CD.I never thought it was right what she said either.

I know what she said but I wasn't upset about what she said, it was where she said it (another country). IMO, to be disloyal to your home and bash the president of the US in another country was not commendable.

That's exactly it. It was a completely tacky thing to do in a foreign country. Actually, it was completely tacky in any country. While I do believe she is entitled to her opinion, I don't believe in using a public forum to spew that stuff on others. People were there to see a concert, not listen to what she thinks of her president. :snooty:

Additionally, I will not watch a Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Alec Baldwin, etc. for the same reason. I'm still waiting for Alec to move overseas... what a windbag he is...

But Susan, Tim, Alec, etc didn't receive death threats though. What Natalie said was no worse than what others have said, but she was made an example of.

And to JDB: Did Natalie say anything about not supporting the troops? I'm just asking, I don't know if she did.

I don't know if Natalie is the spokesperson for the group or if the other girls just go along with whatever she does. But regardless, they have all paid for Natalie's remark.

After she made that remark about the President...which I think was wrong...the chicks proceeded to go on TV with Diane Sawyer or Barbara Walters...can't remember which one. The advertising for the program was that Natalie was going to say she was sorry. It never happened. The program was nothing but a rant with lots of attitude from Natalie. That was when I lost respect for her and the Chicks.

The attitude did extend to our troops because Natalie put Toby Keith down for his song about the war/troops. He came back at her on stage with a stand up cardboard cutout of Natalie and that dictator. Then she wore the T-shirt that said FUTK. She lied about the meaning...all the chicks lied...but it was obvious what the shirt meant.

Toby Keith dropped the whole thing when he walked into the house of his best friend where the friends 3 yr old little boy lay dying of cancer. He said that it really hit him how stupid it was to be carrying on this battle with the Dixie Chicks when things like this little boy dying were happening. He made the decision to let the battle go because it just wasn't that important compared to other things that were going on in his life.

The chicks laid low for three years and now they are back....picking up the battle again with the song they wrote and are singing. If they had any sense they would put out a CD with some of their good music and leave the rest behind. It just makes me shake my head and no, I won't buy their new CD but I do have their old CD's and listen to them.

I'm with you. You can add George Clooney to the list for me, among others. :)

Natalie has the biggest mouth. The other two have said that they totally support Natalie, her views and none are apologetic at all. They are trying to break more into rock. I guess that they figure rock fans are more liberal...

Heck, one of the other two sisters even called country music fans "rednecks" on 60 Minutes last night. Yep, that's how to win friends and influence people...

i watched the dixie chicks and IMO they committed career suicide. they are now "crossing" into rock because they don't want to be associated with the "redneck" country fans?

their big hit song on new CD is ranked at #37....not so hot in my opinion. no radio stations will play it as too many callers call in saying they will stop listening if they play that song.

the chicks are unrepentance - which is fine. but the whole redneck comments totally blew me away. i would NEVER buy their CD IF i was a country fan

Yep, and saying it in a country that isn't too crazy about us anyway. As far as I'm concerned, they can move over there and sell their music. I'll NEVER buy another CD of theirs. To me, they are traitors. Regardless of our political views, we are supposed to be the "United" States, we are supposed to stand together.

I'll buy it! Or download...;)

Love the chicks! They are all so talented and when they start that fiddlin' :boohoo: ... my feet just can't stay still!

Don't give a hoot about their political agenda...ya have to consider the source...they're musicians not poiliticians.

I disagree that we are supposed to stand together. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

That's exactly it. The last thing I want to hear from them is their stance on politics. If they'd have stuck to singing, all'd be fine. It's a shame as they are talented and had a great career going. After watching a bit of their interview last night, it appears they've learned nothing over the past 3 years. :loser: :loser: :loser:

sHOPPERDirectly no. But I have not seen the DIXIE Chicks head over to do a USO tour like so many of the country stars have done. But when you bad mouth the commander and chief that is not supporting the troops IMHO

I have to say that I loved them and their music. I do think that they are pretty much done now ever since Natalie ran her mouth.....What do you all think? http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,1193665,00.html

I think you're right. They're done. Here in Dallas, hardly any stations will play their music - from what I hear. I don't listen to country music anyway, but stations here actually had CD burning parties. I heard that someone in Dallas threatened Natalie's life. I don't appreciate that, but I certainly don't want them back here either. She had the right to say it, but not the guts to say it in her own country, much less her own state. :chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

I agree Jeana, I dont think a death threat is right at all. But she needs to keep her mouth quiet. Now all the chicks are suffering because nobody really wants to play them. And the sad thing is, I loved their music, they are really good.

So much for respecting artists to whom principles are more important than record sales.

Toby Keith may be sincere in his views, but let's be frank: expressing those views costs him nothing.

The courage to speak out against conventional sentiment and against a corrupt power structure is what separates an artist from a hack.

Some people prefer hacks.
