The Dixie Chicks

So much for respecting artists to whom principles are more important than record sales.

Toby Keith may be sincere in his views, but let's be frank: expressing those views costs him nothing.

The courage to speak out against conventional sentiment and against a corrupt power structure is what separates an artist from a hack.

Some people prefer hacks.

And some people don't Nova. You seem to be following me around these days and trying to teach me something. :slap:

sHOPPERDirectly no. But I have not seen the DIXIE Chicks head over to do a USO tour like so many of the country stars have done. But when you bad mouth the commander and chief that is not supporting the troops IMHO
I disagree...
Bad mouthing the Commander-in-Chief doesn't mean you do not support the Troops. imho

I think many of the troops probably believe that it does hurt them, but they're used to fighting and dying for the freedom of Americans to say what they want.

Jeana, I was responding to the thread as a whole. Nothing personal (except for my affection toward you, as always).

Personally, I don't really like the Dixie Chicks. I am more into rock.

That said, they have the right to their opinion and to voice it. They also have to accept the consequences of their actions/words.

JMHO

Upon reflection, it occurs to me that sometimes I do notice when you contribute to a thread and, yes, that attracts my attention because you post on engaging topics with lively discussions. So I confess to that much.

But that doesn't mean I intend to specifically dog your posts. I'm sorry if I gave you that impression.

That might be true. But have you heard anything being done by the DC showing they support the troops. Nope nada nothing.Heck even Wassiln had gone overseas every year to show support.

Speaking out against a corrupt administration that spends American and Iraqi lives casually, dishonestly and without an exit strategy IS supporting our troops.

Blind support of said administration is supporting our troops to death.

Literally.

I don't know-while they didn't express their opinions in the most tactful way I don't think they shouldn't say what they think just because they didn't have a popular opinion. They expressed their dipleasure with the president-it's not like they went to Iraq and sold them state secrets. And honest to god-i find having Bush as the president is embarassing on a daily basis.
I agree, so they said what probably thousands of Americans think....
I would be embarrased of Bush if I were you guys too....just as we are equally embarrased of our PM...
Blair Bush and Howard are three peas in a pod and between them....our world doesn't have a chance.
I resent our country going to war.

If you are talking about the military families in DC over this past weekend; no the media is not going to mention that the families DO support the Troops. MFSO support their loved ones.

I just realized who you meant by DC. I agree I think the Dixie Chicks should go overseas to give our Armed Forces a free concert. I wished I could sing and was popular because I would do it in a second!

I disagree that we are supposed to stand together. In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
I'm not good at putting things into words as I mean them. I did not mean that we shouldn't take a stand and let the President know when we don't like something he does, but as an ex Air Force member...my feelings are that going to a foreign country such as they did and saying what they did is total BS and a traitorour act. Take it up here, in our own country, don't take it over there where we're not liked anyway. I don't agree with everything Bush does, but I'll be darned if I would go to France and announce it there. As I said...we are "united"...keep it here.

To be fair, though, they were in England (our closest ally according to the President). I realize England is still a foreign country, but it is very much our partner in this war. More "us" than "them."

Indeed. I don't think there's any reason the Chicks would refuse to entertain troops if they were welcome to do so.

They spoke out against the President. They didn't spit on returning vets.

Well my dear, if they wanted to be fair, they should have said "we're ashamed that President Bush is from Texas and you should be ashamed of Tony Blair too."  But, they weren't interested in being fair, so I'm not going to worry about it either.

I'm all for someone standing up to someone else and saying look I think this is b.s. But have the guts to do so like a grown up and face it. Don't run, duck and hide in another country and do so.

You're right about that. From the radio talk shows that the scandal caused at the time, there seemed to be pretty many of them calling in that were none too pleased about what they did, but you're right. They certainly didn't spit on anyone. Think they could have spit that far????

I wonder if they're being bugged now.

Didn't they speak out before the war became a disaster? In my opinion, they should have just spoken against the WAR, in their own country, not over in England.

After all England was going to be one of our few allies in the effort.
