are you talking about the first video? Dave DOES NOT say she left her phone. The voice over says it and i believe they wrong. hoot owl is correct according to what i've read from Dave

That is what I said: he is quoted as saying it.

Let me ask you this...if she had no phone, why would Dave have asked her to call him when she was with the john? What would he have expected her to call with? It can't be his phone.....

FWIW DS also told Kolker she left her phone at home, and it was unusual for her to do so.

These women were always on the hustle. A cell phone is essential to booking the next client.

Sorry Robert, he's not quoted. The voice over just says she left her phone. Hoot owl is right, I've been on this case a long time and I remember the article where Dave says she was using his phone at the time because she didn't have one. I believe he meant for Amber to call him from the johns phone. The ad was probably placed with DS number in it. These are dope addicts, money gets tight as habits get worse, they were sharing a phone at the time, but i don't know why she didn't have one. I've seen dave himself say this. You are wrong, he is not quoted in the article and you are just making an assumption.

Listen to the video at 2:10. The voice over says "Schaller says...." That's a quote. Now he may be wrong, or whatever. It's hard to rely on the word of someone that was a junkie at the time. No argument there.

But he's quoted in the video.

I know it sounds like it but he means she left THE phone they were sharing. I don't think at this time Schaller had admitted she didn't have a phone in MSM yet. You gotta remember admitting he was sending this girl out on dates without a phone would made him look pretty bad. Once the attention shifted off the case a bit I think he started to tell the real story

DS did not report Amber missing. SCPD came to the house and that's when Dave found out Amber was dead.
Her death changed his life and he cleaned up. Inititally he was very afraid for his own safety since Amber allegedly
met LISK down the street from where DS lives with Amber.

Between being afraid for his own life, and getting clean, and the police grilling him for any information he could give them,
he THEN started speaking to MSM.

INITIALLY he said the same thing again and again, that Amber used HIS phone to book the appointments with LISK.
I think (if I remember correctly) Amber didn't have the money to PAY her phone bill, and so she was using Dave's phone.

So, if you look BACK on WS, there is plenty of discussion, that Amber did not bring a phone because she didn't HAVE a phone
to bring.

The quote you are alluding to may sound like Dave saying "call me when you get there"
but that interview with Andrea Canning is LONG AFTER AMBER WAS FOUND and, I'm alleging,
that guilt set in for DS and he MAY have stretched the truth a wee tad with Andrea to allude
that Amber had a phone and to call him when you got there (yadda yadda yah),but I'm guessing
that is the guilt and or self shame talking to Andrea, not truth.

She did NOT have a phone.

Not only that, what did DS do for a livng? How did he bring money in to pay the rent?
Was he her pimp? He says he wasn't her pimp.

but didn't he use a baseball bat to threaten johns for the money in their wallet when they were
butt naked? Didn't he rob them?

You have a man here who was the roommate of one of LISK victims with world wide fame. You have EVERYONE
knowing he didn't lift a finger to help Amber when she was missing.

What do you THINK he's going to say months later....to make himself look like a good guy in all this?

I can agree with the notion that it is dangerous to rely on his memory either way. But the quote is the quote.....It's hard to imagine how you can be an escort and not have one phone just for business. I don't care who technically owned the phone(s).

More important I think is the fact that she didn't normally do outcalls. She was largely working out of Dave's house.

She did NOT have a phone.

That cannot be stated as a fact. At best we may have conflicting stories from someone who at the time was a drug addict.

I hate to state the obvious but there is only one person who would really know, and it is not Dave nor any of us.

"She arranged dates through her roommate Dave Schaller's cellphone"

He even claimed he tried to look at the number after Amber left but Amber had "deleted" it. Your roommate goes out on a date as prostitute, uses your phone to book the date, and she never comes back. You don't call the police? <modsnip> Seriously what the **** being on heroinis no excuse not to report your roommate mssing!!!!!

Instead of focusing on one video... how about going BACK to the threads where ALL of this has been discussed (repeatedly) before... and then consider all reports and sources. While the links in some of the old posts may not be working... try using the wayback machine AND/OR google the quotes included in the posts. I know it seems futile to review the many threads here on WS, but there is truly some reliable information to be gleaned. Take all the info, as a whole, then choose what you'd like to believe. But, if bickering (uhhh, I mean discussing) one single report seems advantageous then nevermind me... and carry on!!

Here's just one such post from "way back when" (located in the appropriate thread related to Amber) that might (imo) be of interest, but please feel free to read posts that come before and after.(or of course... don't bother :D)

Thank you!

Just a hunch but this seems like a close approximation of reality.

The last night she was seen alive, Costello had two lengthy conversations with a man who answered her Craigslist Long Island ad, said her roommate, David Schaller. She agreed to meet him in a car parked around the corner, Schaller said. The client would pay $450 for two hours or $1,500 if she spent the night with him.

But the man set conditions: She was to bring nothing and tell no one where she went.

Schaller told her not to go.

"You can't do this," he said he told her. "At least take a phone so you can call me if something happens."

Costello refused, he said. "That's not what he wants," Schaller remembers her saying. "She said it was big money."

It's unclear why, but "something made her trust him," recalled Schaller, who said his cellphone was used for the conversation and that he overheard parts of it. "It was like she knew him."

Also, all of the LISK threads are searchable (by term/words, WS member, etc)... a really advantageous feature. There's a reason for all the threads and topics.

Of note... I have not seen the video that is currently being discussed. But, I've always had trouble believing that Schaller was completely reliable. I know addicts... the good the bad... I've seen it first hand. It seems likely the guy has a good heart (I really don't know) but I do know he had his own demons.

Thank you!

IF he was so concerned about her safety going to a client for the entire night for $1,500, and after all the johns
he had robbed at baseball bat point (versus the term knife point)

why didn't he go outside and follow her and write down the john's license plate?

I don't understand how you can live with someone, send them out to do business with a stranger and then when they don't come back...you just let it go. I have a hard time buying that. It's like you know she's either being held captive and tortured, used as a sex slave or shes been murdered and the person who took/killed her called YOUR phone so you could give it to the police. Was Dave really thinking, oh it must have been a burner he used so why bother they'll never trace him. What the **** how can you just let someone be murdered like that and do nothing!!!

Look at the Olympic athletes who lied to say they were robbed
to cover up something else nefarious that happened.

Dave did not report her missing EVER. She was missing for 4 months.
She died. That can change your life.

He had the press and the police tripping over themselves to talk to him.
Survivor guilt. And the lies start rolling off the tongue, or rather, to give
him the benefit of the doubt, the wee tad of stretching the truth
to say

call me when you get there

yah right - like she's REALLY going to tell the john - hey - do you mind - I'm just
going to call up my non-pimp buddy roomie Dave - to let him know I'm ok, ok?

Just give me a minute here and I'll be right back.

NOT

Why would he say call me when you get there if it wasn't going to do anything if she never came back

I was under the impression Dave had a phone for date calls and she had personal as well possibly shared with Kim if I recall correctly

Brilliant!

AND why would he say
call me when you get there

and when she never came home

he NEVER RAN to the police to have them search his phone anyway they could for the john
when ALLEGEDLY Amber used HIS phone to make her date for the evening.

In anyone's recollection, did DS ever say WHY he didn't call the police?

yes, he was an addict, so was that his reason?
