The Sidebar - Harris Trial #2

Once upon a time, on a Christmas Eve during WW1, French and German soldiers who had been fighting each other to the brutal death, with mustard gas and guns and bayonettes , on a hellish battleground of muddy then freezing trenches, put down their weapons and sang Christmas carols together.

First just a few French soldiers sang, then, a few German soldiers across the way joined in, then, from hundreds of those freezing trench holes on both ends of the battlefield, separated by a No Go zone of tangled barbed wire, came the joined voices of enemies who put down their battle for just that one night, for whatever reasons they had, for whatever common cause they found , immediately, given the opportunity.

Truces are lovely, eh? On any battlefield.

Like, sharing cake because folks can agree cake tastes good, doesn't matter if each and everyone eating it thinks they could improve upon the recipe. :)

I finally had time today to watch Kilgore's closing.

This part (23:40 to 23:55) made me LOL.
"Listen, it was a regular day. He worked, he went to meetings, he texted, he went to lunch, he sexted. He did the things he'd normally do during the day!".

LOL because 'normal' people don't sext while working. Wait. Do they?

Why, thank you kindly. Listening to Staley charge the jury, 34 minutes in, and a drink sounds in order. Skip the wine, have any moonshine? :D

LOL

Yes, he didn't do ANYTHING abnormal - no deviations at all from his "normal" behavior...

Oh, wait...

One thing that I have seen from watching a lot of trials, is that 'what lawyers think' and what 'juries think' are often really really different. lol

Totally true, and I'm always fascinated by juror accounts of deliberations, no matter the verdict.

But have I mentioned I'm a nerdy wonk when it comes to the law? As in, seriously, my idea of fun is to randomly choose a criminal conviction appellate record and to read the entire thing, including footnotes, looking up interesting citations as I go along. :D

Good thing my DH is an attorney-- he understands my interest, anyway, though has none of his own for criminal cases.....

The penalties were even described in the jury instructions - essentially informing them that punishment for murder and Fremont murder are similar

I have skipped a few days of class so I may be repeating some of what has been said. I apologize if that is the case.

I missed Ross turning his shoulders the first few times I watched the video of him returning from his car at lunch. I would recommend watching minutes 14:30-17:00 in the above video.

Did the jury watch any other videos on Thursday? Did they have any additional questions?

Every Beta I've ever had has died of dropsy. I finally gave up.

Five months is WAY longer than I was able to keep any of mine alive. You must be doing something right! Good luck!

Jupiter did die :*( I went out and bought a Half Moon Betta today. I had a Betta in college that I managed to keep alive for 2.5 years after nearly killing him 9 times (dropped his bowl on the concrete going into my dorm, dropped him in the sink, dropped him on the floor.) He died when I left him in my car and went shopping in the mall the day I moved out of my dorm Freshman year, I was 18 and didn't reason who hot the car would get and it was in the 80s.

I will say, I actually cried after my hot car death.

That's some major irony on this thread.

I love you folks.

But lying to women for sex doesn't mean that you want to kill your first born /only son /only child.

Jmo

Btw. The female that told Ross that her bf owes her $1000 ; Probably told ross that with the hope that he gives her $1000 because of a drug related boyfriend that supposedly took money from her.

So imo. ROSS AND THESE LADIES WERE LYING TO EACH OTHER FOR WHATEVER REASONS.

GA,

I JUST WATCHED THIS PRIOR to coming on tonight. I am in a complete flood of fury towards that man right now!!! I've tried to remain objective throughout, and have been on malice since the defense presented its pathetic case.

On this video: it looks to me in the zoomed up version that he stops, turns to the right watches the man (both the investigator and Vinnie see this and point it out) , then Ross moves forward a few paces, stops again, gets his phone up in classic selfie style, and DURING THE CLASSIC SELFIE STYLE turns again to the right at the man (Vinnie and investigator do not detect this one),then moves forward, puts down phone.

It's really hard to see that second (or is it third?) turn to the right in the selfie position, but I'm 95% confident I'm seeing another turn to the right. WHY DIDN'T THE PROSECUTION PRESENT THIS IN ZOOMED FORMAT??? If I was on the fence, I would be no longer.

After watching this video, in full zoom, I have decided that if he gets malice--which I believe even more now he will given the jury's reaction during this video according to people in the courtroom, I will be traveling to Ross's sentencing on behalf of Cooper.

Do we think sentencing will be held in Cobb? I swear someone said that the judge determines sentencing in GA, and if so, it makes most sense for it to be held in Cobb.

Yes, at the 15:50 mark during the pause he turns to the right and at the 15:56 mark when he has the phone in front of his face, he turns to the right. I've watched it like 100 times, you can see the turn to the right with the phone up and he holds it in place, the side of his head (hairline) is visible at the 15:56, no longer the front hairline.

Maybe he's checking out the guy's rear end??

Or making sure no one notices cooper.....

There is no evidence that Ross knew Cooper was in the car, but there is evidence that Ross was interested in men.

(I'm pulling your leg)

I completely agree with your assessment. Makes me wonder...was Cooper alive and making noise when Ross opened the door?

Baaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaa I saw red reading that at first!!!

If I had been the prosecutor, I would've blown this video up in full zoom, slow mo, and then told them bit by bit what they were seeing, why did the prosecution have this video have this on in regular view, regular pace?

I agree 100%. If you go slow and zoom its crazy obvious

I'm sorry!!!!!!! I'm in a satirical mood tonight----I'm already seeing red after watching that video. Like I said, this may just have motivated me to go to his sentencing hearing when he gets convicted of malice. When, not if.

The only way he doesn't get malice next week is if this jury is hung. I'm pretty confident that the juror who experienced the "aha" moment, according to Vinnie Politan, wasn't having an aha moment for acquittal after watching that.

I could be wrong, but I would bet money I'm right.

Here is my same thoughts on the Trial thread.... GMTA:
Maybe he needed to check it out before he asked them to wait? It would be a total disaster if his child was horribly injured, and not yet gone. He needed to know for sure before he screamed out for attention.
Yes, or he wanted to ensure that Cooper was still in there and hadn't been discovered. He could have potentially seen him through the front winshield, being that the carseat was reclined, and he was looking for it. RH approached the vehicle straight on, through the front.

IMO, regardless of why he went to his vehicle it was unusual for him to go to his vehicle AND he tosses the light bulbs in AND he pauses when someone else is near the vehicle. Heck, even if you don't believe he glanced back, who is to say he wasn't using the selfie camera to view behind him?

We just don't know, and RH sure as heck isn't willing to talk in order to clear anything up.
Maybe a selfie pose so he can look behind him on his phone (the old mirror trick!)
