Three children and two teenagers have been arrested over the murder of an 80-year-old man. Leicestershire, UK.

The court heard in one of the messages, the boy was asked by someone if he had “leathered” Mr Kohli, to which he replied: “I watched him hit a girl and pull a knife out. So yeah.”

In another message to the boy, a friend said “someone smacked up an 80-year-old”, to which he is said to have replied: “I did that. I watched him pull a knife on a girl and hit her. I didn’t mean to batter him. I regret it man, I do.”

He also said he was “sorry for everything”, adding: “I 🤬🤬🤬*** my life up. Everything is gone. I’m sorry bro.”

"Boy sent messages admitting attack,

murder jury told.

On Thursday,
jurors heard messages retrieved from the boy's mobile phone, including one which said:
'I didn't mean to batter him'.

The court heard a string of texts, Snapchat and WhatsApp messages sent by the boy
between the attack on Mr Kohli
and his death the following day.

They were sent to various contacts, before he was arrested,
while hiding in a bush at 21:38 GMT
the day after the attack,
jurors were told.

'I didn't mean to batter him.
It was one hit and then my anger turned in'.

'I regret it, man, I do.
I'm sorry for everything'.

In another message,
the boy, who the court heard had been repeatedly searching the internet for news about the attack,
told a contact he had 'banged' a man.

A further message from the boy read:
'Feds know it was me. Got my name and picture'.

( Feds?? 🙄 )

Jurors were told the boy sent another message saying
he was going 'on the run'.

His mother sent him numerous texts
saying she loved him
and asking him to stop running
before he was detained."

I'm confused. Is the boy alleging that Mr. Kohli hit a girl and pulled a knife out? I haven't read anything like that up till now.

Worth noting that they have been found guilty of manslaughter and not murder. The girl has been released on conditional bail until sentencing.

BBC News - Teenagers guilty of killing Bhim Kohli, 80, in park attack - BBC News

An elderly man who was racially abused before being fatally attacked had told police he witnessed an assault on another Asian man yards from his home two weeks earlier, the BBC has found.
Bhim Kohli had been walking his dog in a park in Leicestershire in September when he was punched and kicked by a 14-year-old boy while a girl, 12, filmed the attack.
The BBC has learnt that Mr Kohli spoke to officers in August after he saw two white boys aged 12 and 13 racially abuse a man and throw a large rock at him near the same park where the 80-year-old encountered his own attackers.

A vigil was held for Bhim Kohli in September of last year.
Shows how popular and loved he was.

The 12 yo filming the attack sounds so callous - as if she was filming another teen committing vandalism - destruction of property (for laughs) rather than destruction of a person.

  • A 15-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl have been sentenced for Bhim Kohli's manslaughter
  • The 80-year-old was attacked while walking his dog in Franklin Park in Leicestershire in September
  • The boy was sentenced to seven years in custody - the girl was not sent to custody, but was given a three-year rehabilitation order and a six-month curfew

Two teenagers were sentenced today for killing a dog walker who was racially abused, punched, kicked and slapped in the face with a shoe while on his knees.

A 15-year-old boy was ordered to serve seven years' detention and a 13-year-old girl handed a three-year youth rehabilitation order for the manslaughter of Bhim Kohli.

Mr Kohli, 80, was attacked by the balaclava-clad male at Franklin Park in Braunstone Tow near Leicester on September 1 last year, while the female filmed and laughed.

I am speechless at those extremely lenient sentences.

Me too - only words that spring to mind are WTF

The judge continues telling D2 that a custodial sentence will have an impact on her education.

A short custodial sentence would do more harm than good, he says.

He says she must have a youth rehabilitation order for three years and a supervision requirement for the same period. She will also be under an electronically monitored curfew for six months.

The judge tells the boy he did not find he attacked Mr Kohli due to his race, even though the court heard he used racist language.
"You made a cowardly attack on an elderly man," he says.
"It was a lazy and very hurtful insult", the judge adds, adding Mr Kohli was in "severe pain" and no-one would forget his cries of agony.
Mr Kohli was vulnerable due to his age, the judge adds, and the boy "took the lead" in the attack.
But there are mitigating features, he says, including no previous convictions. He had also behaved more positively recently at the children's home.
His home had not given him the best start, the judge says, and there are some mental health issues.

I very much hope that these sentences will be appealed. The family and friends of Mr Kohil must be so upset to see such lenient sentences .
I cannot imagine that D2 has been a model student at school and taken her education seriously.
