I think the chemical leather is treated with. My understanding is that's why on the Titanic and the ocean floor there are no bodies but leather shoes and belts. You can actually see how the body was originally layed out.

ETA: it's that chemical that preserves leather.

Sperm is inconclusive. Not enough DNA or degraded by bleach, sun etc.
