I think it depends on your platform and following and where you heard the rumor. I’m not familiar with this Gary guy, but if he has a large number of followers then it’s completely irresponsible of him to propagate that stuff even if it’s labeled a rumor.

Additionally, it’s one thing if he heard it from someone who might actually know versus some random person on the Internet tweeting at him. My guess is it’s more the latter in this scenario, so very irresponsible, IMO.

Again, I’m not familiar with him, so maybe this doesn’t apply, but some people just want to be “first” in reporting something. Calling it a rumor allows him to basically not take responsibility for it being wrong, while still potentially getting to claim he knew and was first if it’s right.

And can I just say, this burning need to be right (even on here, though it's rare) just pisses me off like you would not believe. If you are truly invested in these cases, the victim should ALWAYS be your priority. Example : who cares if it was Redditers or WSers who were finally able to give Grateful Doe back his identity after all those years ? Weren't we all invested in doing that for the same damned reason, and wasn't it done ? THAT should be all that matters.

I have read so many news articles now that I can not locate the one I need, of course. I read that LE continue to stay hopeful about finding Evelyn alive, and do not find it necessary to use volunteer search parties.
I find that odd. I thought that volunteer search parties were the norm in cases like this. I know LE has more information than the general public (as they should), but it makes me wonder if they really do know that there is a greater chance that Evelyn is alive? Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part.

Here is one

"We have become aware that there are Facebook groups that are organizing search parties in relation to the Evelyn Boswell case.At this time, we are not asking for volunteers to help organize search parties. In the event that we reach a point that we need volunteers for search parties, we will make that known."

Sullivan County Sheriff's Office asks people to not help organize search parties

The silence today is getting to me. Refresh. Refresh. Refresh.
Over 750 tips and no confirmed sightings.
Sweet Evelyn where are you??

And no daughter, which is apparently her preference.
She should get "fixed"... we need laws in situations like these that allow it... imo

That's a bridge way too far for me, but I do understand the frustration. So many cases, so many children, so much grief and anger. It can wear down your sense of reason, for sure. :(

I just want to say that I hope that MB is having a terrible Saturday night!! No boyfriends, no drugs and lots of misery!!!
And no phone!!!!!

And no phone!!!!!

And no media interviews wherein she NOW gets to boo hoo and pretend that she is desperate to get her child back ! Or talk about friggin' sweet potatoes ad nauseum, as if THAT might really help bring this poor sweet baby home.

I think Juber, Jimbo and I could have gone on and on regarding this topic, but were trying to pull ourselves back a little in order to not to get too far off Evelyn.

The dying art of journalism in general would make for an interesting discussion topic elsewhere on WS's, though.

I don't call them reporters anymore, to me they are just repeaters.JMO

Its so disheartening that no matter what I see reported or what I read online, I see no family on tv trying to help further the search, no family crying for this child!
I see law enforcement, community and I see everyone on here showing more concern and doing more than that horrible family has done at all.
I saw a press conference with a Sheriff that looked like he wanted to break down multiple times. He showed more REAL emotion than MB has at all. I don't think the outcome of this will be good and I just pray that Evelyn is happy and has some peace with God.
I just can't stop thinking about it today.
I agree! We've heard a couple people speak, but it is basically a blame game bc this family seems to have so much animosity toward each other! AB has been out of jail almost 24 hours and, as far as I know, she still hasn't taken the opportunity to do an interview and plead with the public about bringing that baby home. Many families have children missing, but their cases are not as big as this one, so they don't have the media "on hand" like this family. But since many of the individuals tied to EB KNOW what happened, they are not using the media to their advantage like many families of missing children do or would! IMHO

I was surprised when I found out Websleuths actually allows us to post his stuff. The few times I've followed his site I have been disappointed and his speech gets on my nerves. To give him a little credit, he stated his source was reliable. So much for that.

Radar and the Daily Mail are approved too, right? He can’t be too far off from them lol

I think someone connected with WS has met Gray Hughes personally; thus why he has earned credit.

Also, he's been a poster here on WS since before he started YouTubing, IIRC; so I suppose it would be a little hard to say "sure, we let him post as an individual; but don't quote or reference his work".

Honestly, Daily Mail might be a biased source when it comes to information, but they do the best job when it comes to aggregating relevant photos for the articles. Other news outlets will have 1 or 2 photos, and the DM will have 20!

The Sullivan Co. Sheriff’s Office says the reward for finding missing Evelyn Boswell is over $61K. I spoke to several businesses in Kingsport who have donated to the reward fund. Hear from those businesses tonight at 6 on @WJHL11 and @ABCTriCities

I can't recall a case where the reward was collected by a tip that broke the case. I get why rewards are offered since it could happen and it does help keep the case in the news but it seems like most missing kids are found either after a suspect talks or a civilian stumbles upon a body. Even searches don't pan out too well.

It infuriates me when those close to the missing child not only don't give LE information but actually lie with ever-changing stories. And Evelyn's case has me seeing red. An attention-seeking mother who tells whatever lies catches her fancy, a grandmother who is busy breaking the law instead of cooperating with LE, males who may or may not know more than they are telling.

Was Evelyn so insignificant in their lives that her disappearance becomes a game of "how do I keep from going to jail?" Argh!!

Yes and AB told the judge she wanted to return home to look for her granddaughter when she was arrested in NC... no reports of her out looking... lighting a candle for Evelyn tonight

As in Jr never saw child, but Sr did?

It is possible that, when MB was with Jr, she never had Evelyn with her. It's possible that, several times MB went to Sr's house looking for Jr and Jr wasn't there. Therefor, Sr would have seen Evelyn several times and Jr would have never seen her. Do I think that scenario is true? No way. Do I think people lie sometimes to cover their own or a loved one's a** while they're being questioned during a trial? Yes!
