“There are so many structures that are in danger that we don’t have the capabilities locally to address this if it continues to get worse,” Mosley said. “My fear is that it will continue to get worse.”

Mosley said there are 23 active wildfires at this time across the state, with Harlan County currently suffering from five.

A fire on Pine Mountain has been impacting such communities as Nolansburg, Dionne, Totz and Hiram.

“It’s an approximately 1,300-acre fire that has grown,” Mosley said. “Forestry has been fighting this for the last several days. Our local fire departments have been assisting where structures are in danger. We have had one property – two outbuildings – (that) have been destroyed as a result of this.”

Is there a thread for Gatlingburg area fires?

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...burg-pigeon-forge-evacuated-wildfires-n689396

The Tennessee mountain resort towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge were under mandatory evacuation orders as multiple wildfires swept through Great Smoky Mountain National Park Monday night.
Wind gusts up to 70 mph frustrated fire crews battling at least 14 fires burning around the towns in Sevier County, which are gateways to the national park and home to dozens of popular tourist attractions. Among them is Dollywood, the theme park owned by country music legend Dolly Parton.

"We urge the public to pray," Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said at a news conference Monday night

Ripley Aquarium, fire very close. however, the building is very self-sufficient and "should" be all right.

The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, a Gatlinburg institution for generations, was among the many structures threatened Monday night by fire.
Bill May, executive director of the beloved school, posted photos on his Facebook page of flames consuming structures at the visual arts center.
He also posted a message about 11 p.m. as he evacuated downtown Gatlinburg where the school long has sat.

It is so hard to wrap my head around this. I cannot imagine living or having a business so close to fires like this. I have only been there once, on vacation, but we still talk about that trip and how beautiful it was. Praying for everyone.... please be safe, my friends.

This is so awful. I have vacationed in Gatlinburg and pigeon forge many times and always enjoyed it.
