TBI has dropped the ball in their reporting, I don't disagree, but the media has way surpassed anything they have done in terms of crappy wording, losing the facts along the way and straight up making crap up. Bad reporting, regardless of where it comes from can and does ruin cases all the time. This case is clearly no exception.
I really don't understand why it is so difficult to do one's job. If reporting is your job, then actually spend some time, get the facts, fact check and stop pulling every headline you see of of twitter and facebook and running with it.
Ok, rant over.

Examples of media's crap-fest? I don't doubt there are some. Have any of media's fumbles made it more difficult for LE to do its job? Endangered the case? How so?

This is the backwoods, far from Nashville and Memphis, and Woodward and Bernstein aren't walking the hollows, it's true. TBI, however, is responsible for the entire state.

1. It is instructional to check out TBI's press releases, if one wants to see errors in wording and spelling. And this is how TBI represents itself to the public.

2. It is also instructional to check on TBI's reputation as an agency, and its difficulties over the last ten years.

Or he might be flushed for various reasons because he looks pale to me and pale people (like me) flush at the drop of a hat. He also could have kissed Holly. My boyfriend permanently looks like he is wearing lipstick because we kiss all the time and I transfer to him. I mean, that makes more sense to me than Drew and Holly being actors hired in which an entire town is in on a conspiracy to create fake people.

DrWho3,

I agree with your assessment in many respects.

I think that the scene CB is describing in the Garage/Carport is HB being tied up or somehow bound....ie..the duct tape. I think regardless of how or why the perp is there, he suprises Holly on her way to her car, maybe even knocks her unconcious temporarily(the blood) or stuns her so that she doesn't cry out, then pulls her under cover to fix her up somehow with a gag or something so she is easier to transport. CB hears voices(the perp telling her that if she tries to scream he will hurt her, and that she is gonna carry her lunch bag and act and look normal as they walk to his car) and sees these silloettes,..but is somehow unable to respond at that time..like maybe no clothes on or no shoes on, and when he comes back, he only catchs a glimpse of them leaving...

I think the scream that was reported happened when the perp tried to put her in a vehicle, and while Holly is walking she decides that maybe she can break out of her restraints and she is gathering up the courage and waiting till she thinks the perp is distracted to try and make a break for it. I think it was more than just a scream..I think she must have made quite a fight to have a witness get upset enough at overhearing it to call Holly's mom at work. When Holly gets to the vehicle and makes her break, she somehow gets the duct tape gag off, screams, drops the lunch bag, and tries to get away...but, she doesn't make it. The perp secures her in the vehicle, takes her phone, and then picks up the bag and duct tape off the ground and puts them in front with him as he is leaving, to me this is a clue he is still thinking calmly. By the time he gets to the eaton rd location, the phone is blowing up, so he tosses that, thinking its to hot, then heads for a back road where he throws out the lunch bag and duct tape as the only things that would immedately be visible if he were stopped by police. He then gets away into thin air.

I think that if you look at things it like this, I think its a clue..This guy acted catious, but he wasn't panicked. He know he had to get rid of the lunch bag and other items, but he wasn't concerned about LE finding those or any DNA they might contain, in my opinion, he was only worried about a traffic stop while he was transporting Holly. Otherwise, why not hold onto them and put them where they will never be found.

I just think this is more like how Ted Bundy would act than someone who had a personal steak in Holly or her family, that type of person would be emotional, and emotioanl people seldom act catious and calm. Ted Bundy would certianly tell you to carry your lunch bag and act normal ,and he would in my opinion certianly decide it was more dangerous to keep the lunch bag, than to toss it and possibly give away some piece of evidence. This guy was confident that if he got out of the area he would get away with the crime which IMO is a clue.

I think this was a normal looking guy for the area, driving a normal looking or even a nicer looking car or more likely a truck with a camper shell, and that its possible he may have had visible scratches or marks of that nature from Holly resisting.

At this point, I think that until Holly is found and maybe LE get lucky and find some piece of forensic evidence with her, then I don't think there is much chance this guy will be caught anytime soon with what TBI/LE have now. I also don't think SAR would do much good. With the news coverage of the original searchs, this guy had to know it wouldn't be a good idea to leave her anywhere close to Parsons/Darden...I would guess she is far away and I don't really see how you would pic a good place to start being that TN is so rural with so much wilderness to hide in.

I don't think she is nearby either. I think the abductor would have wanted to get out of the area before he did whatever else his plan included. He had to know an alarm would be raised soon, even if he doesn't know that Clint saw him. Clearly Holly was on her way somewhere (whether he knew where or not) and would be missed soon.

Zoom the page to 400%. The photo enlarges. But still, I can see he is wearing what appears to be blush and lipstick without it. It looks like theatrical make up.
So the flash, which seems quite bright to be from a cellphone photo, doesn't wash them out.

What is Drew's last name? I am saying that if these are actual people from the town they are playing a role here as regards her "disappearance".

If they are not townspeople, which town? Darden, or Parsons? more ambiguity there,
then their photos are representing them playing a role here.
Who outside the immediate family has the public heard from? The schools? A church?
Who is vouching for her exactly?

I don't think we can say his last name on here, but he's one of her friends on her FB page, and his profile picture is another one of the two of them together.

To me, he doesn't look at all like he's wearing makeup.

If you go on some of the local gossip blogs that we aren't allowed to mention here, you'll find out that people DO know Holly.

So, am I understanding correctly that this benefit that was suddenly cancelled last week(that we all pondered on what reasons it could be.. Atleast I think it was last week..lol).. Anyway, this benefit that had been advertised(so to speak) as being a fundraiser to help pay for a SAR team to get involved in searching for Holly.. Am I understanding that the SAR team that the funds were being raised for, and who was supposed to then search for Holly.. That this SAR team is the Tony C. guy??????!!!?!?!

I mean just how could this really be so?? I cannot make sense of it??? You mean that woman who has been running that FB page dedicated to Holly.. And she was putting together the entire fundraiser for Holly.. And was crushed last week having to announce that the benefit was cancelled due to KB's request.. And this is the FB page that several here follow and from time to time update us on things like benefits, upcoming fundraisers, etc.. This woman that was doing all of This is somehow connected with this Tony C guy and his fake team??!? I'm a little shocked at this.. I dont follow this woman's FB page for Holly, but several here do and I'm just shocked that this benefit, this woman, and Tony C are all connected somehow and that it was this Tony C's fake SAR team that the benefit's funds that were raised were going to this Tony C!!?!?!?!?! Really WTH?!? This man scared the beejeezus out of me early on with one of his psychotic(and I do mean psychotic) YouTube video postings!?! How can this nutjob somehow be connected with this person who so many have been following on FB and have seemed genuinely involved and to care and help in any way possible to help find Holly!!? WTH?!??

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?!?!

Smooth, that's the same thing I'm wondering. I follow the page and have communicated with the admins in the past, and the first I heard that it was TC's SAR team that the benefit was for was here on WS. I'd also like to know how we can be sure that was the specific SAR group they were trying to connect with.

  • #609
I don't think that is is fact at all (that the cancelled fundraiser had anything to do with the "funny" SAR page.)

  • #610
Still wondering what Karen B wanted the president to do. Has anyone seen a MSM report on specifics other than "help", & or has she attempted to contact him in a more direct way?

FR: I'm guessing the same thing(s) Tiffany Hartley wanted the president to do... :innocent:

Yikes, that is not what LE said. The searches were going to EXPAND if no additional leads were found by Sunday. The weather became a issue I believe but there was never an explanation given for calling off the searches after the 26th of April...

LE had said earlier in the week - I think it was on Tuesday - that they would probably be ending the searches by that Sunday. IIRC there were tweets about through that week. You can check my Twitter archive for Holly's case if you like, and I'm happy to find the article from earlier in the week if you'd like.

I don't think this is accurate. I don't know how the SAR team got mixed in with the fundraiser. The gal planning it said the money would go to future search efforts not to a specific SAR team.

Not trying to be argumentative here, (because you DO know I love you wfgodot, right? :) ) but IMVHO the media is only as good as their reputation of accessing- and then reporting ,on facts.

Everyone can pass the buck.
But passing the buck (by saying "well, this is what I heard from this cop, and then I heard this from this cop, and then this from a family member! And guess what I heard from another person from Station xyz?! And then would you believe what else I heard at the Huddle House this morning?? And then my deadline was up, so I said to myself that I better go with my gut feeling) is NOT investigative journalism in any fruitful way whatsoever, IMO when it comes to missing persons cases.

Raise the bar, here, media. Call and verify your sources, your statements, your print, online, and digital media sources.
Even if it means you need to learn a whole new language, and take a class in cultural differences- and god forbid- miss your deadline.
Do it, because it's what helps bring missing persons home.

MOO.

EXACTLY!! I don't think there is much responsible journalism anymore, it's more like sensationalism. Say anything that will get people watching, reading, or listening, because that's what people want. The more bizarre a case is, the more people want to talk about it.

  • #614
But there's no passing of the buck here, O. TBI gave the first version in a press release the day Holly disappeared. Then, for whatever reason, TBI allowed the story to change. The people who need to raise the bar here are employed by LE.

(wfgodot proudly relishes his insignificant minor in journalism!)

LE can only report what they are told initially. The story changed because, IMO, either Clint realized that dragging was not an accurate description after being questioned by LE. OR... whoever was speaking for TBI realized it was not accurate and corrected it.
IIRC, the spokesman said something akin to Holly being led by the arm with force, not going along willingly. In my mind, there's not a whole lot of difference. She might have still been upright, but she was being pulled into the direction of the woods by force. Anyone seeing that could interpret it as being dragged.

That is not what Clint said in his more recent version. There was no pulling or anything of that sort.

Clint was very clear in his TV interview there was no dragging, leading, etc. It is one of the few details that was clarified. He specifically addressed what he saw.

From his interview on the JVM show:

"JVM - And then, you say you go to call your mom, and then you see him leaving through the woods -- him leading her into the woods?

C. BOBO: Well, the information that has come, as far as leading, I saw the two walking towards the woods, there was no leading, there was no dragging. They just looked like they were casually walking towards the woods. "

But what efforts? As far as I know only the family is doing any searches or legwork.

  • #618
So the Bobo's want help from anyone....even the President, but they don't REALLY want help from any sar team that could help???

  • #619
Not buying the "hoax" theory. Too many people involved for too long, and something LE would shoot down immediately.

Do you mean who is vouching for Holly's EXISTENCE???????

If I have to say this one more time, I may implode and that would be bad because I will then swiftly join the turkey in turkey-heaven.

Local Law Enforcment. State Law Enforcement. Federal Law Inforcement. NCMEC. Professional SAR.

If all of those agencies combined believe Holly to be a missing and endangered person- then I think that train of thought is a tad waste of time.
