Found Deceased TN - Kayden Nolen, 5, Endangered Child Alert, Autism, wandered from Lakeview Apts abt 4:30pm, Meadowlake Dr, Memphis, 9 Apr 2025

It makes me wonder where the pond is, or is that water in the middle of those apartments considered a pond?

Kayden Nolen, a five-year-old autistic boy who was reported missing on Wednesday, was found dead in a pond Thursday morning, according to reports.

I assume they are referring to the water surrounding the apartments?

It looks like to me it's just surrounding the area for aesthetic purposes

Was the aunt just watching him or did she have custody? I didn’t see that. Either way the guilt man.
Dunno if he lived there or just visited, or was babysat. But we do know it's not the first time it's happened so if he didn't live there it sounds like he was a frequent visitor IMO. Also MO that more than his Aunt lived there since family members always looked for him when he'd gone missing in the past.

the boy was missing from the apartment. That wasn't an unusual occurrence, according to the aunt who said that Kayden had wandered off before. But in those instances, family members always found Kayden soon after, the aunt said.

Heartbreaking video with additional details. They used surveillance video to find the spot to search (where he went into the water, IMO). Also showed the recovery from the aunt's balcony.

His aunt last saw Kayden Nolen at the 2700 block of Meadowlake Drive on April 9, 2025. Nolen's Aunt says she woke up from her nap and noticed her nephew was missing from her apartment. Her family checked the rest of the complex before contacting the Memphis Police Department. Nolen, who has been diagnosed with autism, has left his home before and is typically found within the confines of the Lakeview Apartments

the home should've been secured after the first time IMO
the adults responsible need to be held accountable

So sad. At the end of the video where family put a balloon, it appears to be a large gap under that fence as well. I agree RE" the missing post", that's an easy slip to get through as well.

This is hard for me as someone who works with children who have level 3 autism daily.

You can take every single precaution and they still elope. Example: we have a client whose parents had a lock on door and window and he was nonverbal level 3 autism and managed to use something to break the window at night and elope to the sunflower field he loved to engage in self stimulatory behavior. He warms found by a drone.

I’m going to trust the local folks to investigate and determine if this was neglectful in anyway.

It;s surrounding the whole building based on the photos

Wait did he go under the fence? I know the video mentioned a broken spot in the fence but that wasn't near when he was found by divers.

One of the videos posted upthread showed a grown man (news reporter) pointing to a gap in the bars (looks like a bar was missing), and showed how even a grown man could make it through that gap.

Once you're in water you float around (unless you're anchored, which he wasn't). So I don't think where he was found will necessarily correlate to where he entered the water. I'd be surprised if it was the exact same spot and he didn't float/try to swim around.

Oh yeah that makes a lot more sense

Here's a few things to note from the article:

Myishea Brounson is one of Nolen’s aunts. She was angry and hurt by her nephew’s death, telling Action News 5 that she wishes he had been better protected.

“I don’t know what to think right now. Like, my mind is just completely blank,” she said. “When I got the news from my school, I had to come from my school early because of the stuff that’s happening, and nobody was watching my nephew.”

[snip]

MPD is staying tight-lipped about whether or not Nolen’s immediate family is being questioned.

Action News 5 also reached out to the apartment complex with questions about safety. They hung up on us.

Snipped:
Kayden's parents lost custody almost two years ago, when they were living in a hotel and couldn't maintain stable housing. But Nolen said they were trying to come back from losing everything. He believed they were close to getting their children back. Now, he says losing Kayden has made him afraid

well that's clearly not neglectful but in this case, they said he has escaped several times before ... that's what bothers me, this isn't a one-off case
