Thanks JerseyGirl, for showing an interest and updating. I have worked 5 12 hour night shifts this week, but reading the testimony is riveting and horrible. Jury Spares Jones From Death Penalty; Guilty Verdict On Lesser Charges
Too much question of mom's possible involvement. Her trial is upcoming.
After nearly five hours of deliberation, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all eight counts, the majority of which were on lesser charges; including the main counts of felony first degree murder of each child. Instead, Jones was charged with the facilitation of first degree murder. Jones will no longer face the death penalty since the jury convicted him on lesser charges.
Jones' sentencing hearing has been scheduled for November 29 at 1pm.
The District Attorney was not able to confirm when the mother of the two babies, Kendra Tweed, will be back in court. Tweed was indicted in November 2016 for her roll in the deaths of her two children.
Jones, 25, was sentenced in November to serve 50 years in prison in connection with the deaths of the girls, along with an additional six years for an unrelated offense. The prosecution put on more than 20 witnesses at trial and sought the death penalty for Jones.
The girls’ mother and Jones’ co-defendant, 26-year-old Kendra Lashae Tweed, is set to go to trial on May 13, 2019.
