A Fort Worth man was sentenced to life in prison by a jury Thursday in Tarrant County for charges related to the death of his infant son, who was 10 weeks old at the time he was beaten to death in 2018.

According to Tarrant County authorities, 31-year-old Joseph Matthew Welborn pled guilty to injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a first degree felony. Welborn initially faced a capital murder charge. His sentence includes the possibility of parole. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
