Well this story has certainly taken a turn. Apparently Anthony had been in a physical alteration with his girlfriend, her family called the cops and the girlfriend's mother texted Anthony to tell him the cops were coming to the school.

Right... so this story doesn’t stink to you? It’s really easy to say “oh he’s violent and he brought a gun to school”. I don’t see anything stating this kid threatened anyone with the gun. His gun didn’t even strike the officer. Who shot the officer?

We know Anthony had a gun so who exactly reported this to the police/SRO? Why did he have a gun at school in the first place?

Why is the girlfriends mother making a very conspicuous effort to distance herself from the gun? What difference does it make to her if she didn't do anything wrong? Seems like we are not hearing the whole story.

Would like to know more about what exactly was said in the texts and who all was involved in these texts.

I think that depends on the area of Knoxville that you live in. I’m sure that holds true in north /east Knox where most of the gun crime takes place. Knoxville is a big city.
I have three children that live in west Knox. It is a safe place to live. I’m not saying that it’s crime free, but it does not have the violence that north /east Knox has.

Maybe she's scared for her safety. How does the saying go, "snitches get stitches"? She called the police, therefore she snitched.

I came across this article this morning when I was reading the local ( to me) news. The article is about Birmingham, but Mayor Woodfin is spot on about the type of gun violence we are seeing so much of , what is causing it, and what it will take to stop it. I believe this could apply to any city with this problem, including Knoxville. I believe that the Austin-East incident was a part of the type of violence the mayor is speaking of. Gun control that takes guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens is not the answer, controlling the segment of society he speaks of and getting the illegal guns from their hands is the answer. It’s a bit of a long read, but interesting.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - For Brian Buckman, the past year for his business hasn’t been easy. The funeral director has had to burry several Austin-East Magnet High School students who have lost their lives to gun violence over the past couple of months.

”It’s a calling, it’s not for everyone but I love it. I have a servant’s heart, I love serving people and this is what I do,” said Buckmon.

Buckmon is a friend of the family and also owns Patton Funeral Home. He is tasked with planning the funeral for Anthony Thompson Jr.

”I grew up with the family, know them well and my heart goes out to them. Here we are dealing with a situation with so many questions,” said Buckmon.
