TN TN - Rhonda Daugherty, 49, LaFollette, 2 Dec 2014 - *L. Vann guilty*

I don't know of another boat , but they are still searching there with divers. I think they have to have some sort of evidence or they wouldn't be concentrating on just the one area.

This family is going through torment and I think one person knows what happened to her. Have they done forensics on the original vehicle or are they still not saying anything?

Local LE saying nothing, I was told the sheriff said we know just as much as he does TBI not letting him in on anything.

Sunday saw the Anderson and Campbell County Sheriff’s Departments searching,
along with the TBI, for Rhonda Kitts Daugherty.

Investigators continued searching around Sugar Hollow Marina
Saturday & Sunday.

According to witnesses, the search seemed to begin in the area over a week ago, when law enforcement officials were spotted searching house boats with dogs.
A Knoxville Search and Rescue boat equipped with sonar went back and forth on the lake on Saturday, attempting to get what law enforcement call at “hit” on an object under the water.

I know I'm not an expert on water recovery and all of that, but I do know that after a week to 10 days, a body has a tendency to float to the surface due to the decomposition gases. Even if it is weighted down pretty good, a body seems to get awfully buoyant over time.

If nothing has become obvious thus far, I'm thinking maybe they need to start doing land searches with cadaver dogs. The soil in Tennessee is very soft and very wet this time of year, very easy to dig in. There are very few rocks to complicate the process. There were three days and nights from the time Rhonda went missing until the elderly couple were robbed. She disappeared on Tuesday, he rented an enclosed SUV on Wednesday, and he robbed the couple on Friday.

Personally, I don't think Vann would have risked being seen in or around that dock area, too many witnesses, too many people that knew him.
To me, he seems more like the-- sneak around in the middle of the night with a shovel-- type of guy. Since he grew up in that area and knows a slew of people that live there, my guess would be that he would've stuck with going to an isolated and uninhabited spot somewhere, most likely on private property, and hiding his handywork 2 or 3 feet deep.

It appears that he is somewhat short and fat, so the only thing we have going for us is that maybe he is too lazy and out of shape to dig a very deep hole. It also appeared to me that he EXPECTED to get caught, thus all the panic, armed robbery, and sudden flight. Maybe it was just his guilty conscience driving him, but then again, maybe he really didn't do a very thorough job of hiding her.

Forgive me, I haven't been able to follow very closely recently..any word on his truck?! He must have used it prior to getting the rental

I've been wondering about that all along myself. I haven't heard a peep about the original pickup that he was driving. All I do know is that the "locals" said that he had a red pickup truck, make and model unknown. This info. was picked up in chatter and comments left on media websites and other venues. I assume the people that knew him would know what he drove around town. From outward appearances, they do, and many commented about it after it was revealed that he was driving a rental car the day after Rhonda went missing. Common sense says that he would have parked his red truck at the rental place, swapped vehicles, and that LE would have impounded it after he went on the run.

I've seen absolutely nothing saying that is the case. I haven't even seen any rumors or local gossip to that effect. I did see some comments left by supposed locals to the area that said neighbors of Rhonda's had seen a red truck parked at her house the very Tuesday she went missing, but nobody thought anything of it at the time. Once again, rumor or fact ? I haven't seen anything in the media regarding it. My guess would be that they impounded the truck, processed it for evidence with little or no fanfare, and made no public comments about it.

Of course, all we've seen is LE denying any tie-in's between the two cases.

Okay then......if there aren't any tie-in's between the two cases, then what are they searching for in and around Vann's old stomping ground ? Why use scent tracking dogs ? Why the door-to-door searches, with him in custody ? Why all the heavy search activity for what appears like a garden-variety armed robbery that left living witnesses ?

I've also been wondering about the red truck. I've been thinking that if the truck had been found and processed and LE found no evidence tying two cases together, then someone (family or a lawyer) would make sure that information is reported in order to exonerate someone that the public might see as a potential culprit for kidnapping or worse. I can't help but wonder if they have not yet found the red truck and when do they will also find Rhonda? Just speculating....

It makes me very sad that Rhonda's family (and so many others) are facing the holidays without their missing loved one. :(

As per the red truck seen at Rhonda's house the morning she went missing, absolutely true and I am a local with very close ties to the family

Mother of missing Campbell County woman begging for answers
LAFOLLETTE (WATE) – The mother of a missing Campbell County woman is looking for any answers in her daughter’s disappearance. WATE 6 On Your Side has been following the since 49-year-old Rhonda Daugherty vanished three weeks ago. Rhonda Daugherty’s mother Nancy Kitts spoke with WATE 6 On Your Side Tuesday and she said the best Christmas gift she could get this year is having her daughter back home again.

“Just please, whoever knows where she’s at, please, please, I beg you to please let someone know so that they can find her and bring her home to us,” she said.

Kitts said she is near her breaking point after her daughter mysteriously vanished. She and Rhonda had a close relationship and said Rhonda would call her every day.

When Kitts didn’t hear from Rhonda back in early December, she knew something was wrong.

My thoughts are with Rhonda's family today, I can't imagine how they are coping with her disappearance.

What makes a seemingly normal man; Husband, Father, teacher, churchgoer, go completely sideways? Does anyone know LV's history? Does he have a drug or alcohol problem? Scratching my head here ...

First post on this thread after I read some of the info here and elsewhere. Just some thoughts.

I do think this guy is tied to her disappearance because why else would he flee and rob 2 different sets of people for money. He managed to get to Myrtle and so was going Eastwards and no telling where he was planning to go next.

Im frustrated with the lack of info from TBI. Surely they could provide the public with certain info that may jog a memory from the concerned public and help find the missing woman.

The strategy of silence is ridiculous because the public can help in these cases. For example there could be someone sitting home right now who saw the red truck and thought it looked suspicious what he was doing but without some public release of information the witness may just brush it off as his own imagination getting carried away.

Protecting an investigation does NOT mean you have to stay totally silent about certain generic pieces of information that can help find this woman.

I feel terribly for the family and this christmas is going to be rough for them. I hope she is found soon and the sad part is I dont think the news will be good when she is found. I hope I am wrong about that part.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Very J Edgar Hoover-ish approach to solving a crime, and IMO can actually hinder an investigation.

Silence and misinfo by LE via MS Media/Social Media only creates rumor, speculation, conjecture, and is the predator's most lethal weapon. This 1970s close to the vest silence investigative strategy is antiquated and impedes a succesful outcome, imo. To hold back all critical info hinders citizen awareness and discourages the public's participation<tips> in missing/murdered person's investigations. The American public; analogous to a security camera across the landscape of the USA, is a very valuable investigative tool and resource to squander..imo

A prime example;

Investigators, after almost two weeks of scurrying around likes ants in a hot frying pan due to silence and misinformation via msm by the MS/TN task force investigation of the Bain sister's abduction by a killer; Adam Mayes...

On May 11, 2012, Jane Valez Mitchell interviewed the conveinence store clerk where Adam Mayes was seen on security camera. The clerk slipped up and released<outed> Mayes' vehicle description during the Jane Valez Mitchell/HLN interview. It went viral on social media, and in less than 24 hours a citizen's tip came in and the Baines sisters were rescued and Adam Mayes committed suicide..
The American public is a very valuable investigative resource to squander in the 21st century.

'Why would investigators not release the vehicle description of a known violent and desperate suspect who had two innocent and endangered child abduction victims in captivity'?

A body found in the Boardman River belonged to Constance "Connie" Snyder, a Kalkaska woman who went missing in October.

A teenager found Snyder, 28, frozen in ice Saturday. Her body was recovered and sent to Grand Rapids, where it was identified Monday, said Kalkaska Village police Chief Kevin Rohn

Rohn said the coroner indicated that Snyder, who went missing on Oct. 18, probably died around the same time she disappeared.

Her body was found near the intersection of Island Lake Road and U.S. 131, an area that Rohn said was combed at least 10 times by search parties consisting of friends, dogs, helicopters, officers and an airplane.

Rohn said he didn't know why they didn't find her.

Rohn, who responded to the scene, said there were no obvious signs of injury to Snyder's body. A probable cause of death hasn't been determined.

This is the kind of thing that drives me crazy, and we see it over and over again in here. Search crews are literally standing right over a body and don't see it. How can this be......and why does it happen so often ?

More puzzling even, what is the point of having scent tracking dogs ? Forget about the humans, why do these dogs never seem to find anything either ? What's the point of even having them ?

It almost seems like there is a HUGE FLAW in search procedures. The only advice I could offer seems rather obvious and almost silly......Look DOWN......pay attention.

Lake Norris is big. Lake Norris is deep. There is a lot of debris on the bottom for a body to be caught on. Remember, this is not a natural lake, but one that was created by the TVA by building Norris Dam and flooding farmland. Combine that with cold temps and it is a very logical reason why a body-if there is one- hasn't surfaced, but could in an area already searched.

Sad to see Rhonda's thread drop to page 3....I so much want her to be found for the sake of her family.
