I am only saying that it might matter big time to her. She has been dismissed all her life by people in control. She may feel this is more of the same
I understand what you bolded and I don't disagree at all. He should go away for all he is accused of and found guilty of.
Thanks for clarifying that RB, I understand what you're saying here. Poor SP has been betrayed plenty and I am so sad that she is having to go through even more with all of this playing out in public. I hope she finds compassion and kindness somewhere in her young life going forward.

I'm really confused here NW, I respect your opinions and I'd like to try and understand what you think would even begin to make this a gray area? Am I missing something that everyone else is aware of? I don't follow any social media regarding WS cases, so perhaps you are referring to something there? Thanks

Thanks for asking but I don't really want to answer because I don't have a very popular opinion on this, haha. Not formed on any outside sources. I have laid low and lurked lately...

OK then, as has been debated by many posters here, it matters to me whether BR just picked up SLP and sheltered her vs. BR sexually abusing her while they were together. I fully understand the video implications and the extent of the laws broken beyond my limited two-possibility scenario here.

In the latter case, BR will be going to prison for many decades, let's say 50 years for example. Whatever it is, won't be long enough, IMO.

In the sheltering case, I think you and others would say the that the 50 year sentence is appropriate (based on your question, not trying to put words in your mouth). This opinion is black and white, and there is nothing wrong with that.

I look at the sheltering scenario as something the prosecution should and will consider in charging and prosecuting BR. This is the gray area- where the letter of the law is interpreted, and sentencing includes looking at specifics of what did and did not happen. That SLP and possibly her siblings are free from years of sexual abuse and the stepfather has gone away for along time. So BR would probably end up spending less time in jail the 50 years.

All opinions on this complex situation are valid IMO, as it touches a lot of emotion. But if I get beat up again, it's your fault...

Thank you sooooooooo much TNW. honestly! This why I asked your opinion, I've been so full of blind rage towards both offenders (RP and BR) that I couldn't imagine anything other than a slow death by 1,000,000 venomous snake bite or wasp stings or something equally as painful.

I'm not good at gray IRL and even less so in this particularly heinous child abuse case, thanks for helping me understand your shade opinion and even if I don't fully agree, I can appreciate it now. <nobody better pick on you or they're in big trouble I'm agirlwithnoname remember, I have a pointy sword and a list of names LOL>

Madison man charged in connection with case of missing Tennessee girl found in Wisconsin
snipped and BBM- how in the world did he get photos? paused the video and captured screenshots? or did he persuade her to send photos as well?

According to the release, Rogers was charged Monday in U.S. District Court in Madison with knowingly persuading a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct, and such visual depiction was brought from Tennessee to Wisconsin.

The girl had gone missing on Jan. 13 and was found Thursday, authorities said. The same day that the girl was found safe, officials announced her adoptive father, Randall Pruitt, had been arrested and charged with rape in Tennessee. Probable cause documents from Monroe County show Pruitt’s arrest stemmed from photos and videos taken on his cellphone.

I think I'm going to hold off posting on this thread for a while. I DO appreciate all the lively discussion and understand how passionate people are, especially regarding cases of child abuse. But...arrests have been made, SLP is safe. I do believe justice will served. If there are more arrests coming then that will be news.

Anything else is just speculation and I hope for SLP's sake the specifics of her ordeal are never released to the public.

Slueth on!

The second paragraph is regarding the step-father, Pruitt.

:( I just don't get it YR, I really don't. :(

I totally get wanting to believe this guy was on the up and up. And I get wanting to believe that he didn't victimize her more than she already has been.
This sweet kid couldn't have been more vulnerable!

But c'mon

He asked for and received documentation of her abuse, in exchange for rescuing her. (as they would need indistputable evidence for the authorities)
He drove across the country to pick her up and bring her home with him. (he could have simply sent documentation to authorities)
He destroyed her means of communication. (why, if the intent was simply to spirit her away so they could contact authorities)
He hid her in his home for weeks. (are the authorities in his closet? No. No they are not)
He lied to the authorities about having 'met' her. (Why, when they were the goal the whole time, right?)
He gave a cockamamie excuse for why he didn't take the promised action with the documentation. (and how many times did he need to view that with his keen expert eye before making that determination, anyways?)

I would love to know if they found that documentation on his phone, or if it had been deleted, actually. Since, you know, it was such crappy quality.

We haven't seen charges that would lead us to believe that he assaulted her (or we haven't yet), but if he did not, it was probably because he was grooming her himself.

The second paragraph is regarding the step-father, Pruitt.
So he (RP) also took videos and pictures? or is this just a mistake?

It must be a mistake, but wouldn't be surprised if true.

Just don't trust all the media reporting lately.

And if LE is following the example of JC (no charges in the County she was found in thus not much disclosure of her 88 days) perhaps there will be no further detailed charges for BR? I don't know. Perhaps one of our attorneys may chime in? @gitana1 ?

Who knows. That ship has sailed for poor SLP. They graphically described what was seen in the video

That's the way I read it, but who knows? Could be a mistake. I think that link was the first I've read that Pruitt had photos/videos, so maybe it's just wrong.

I hope so too, but this young girl will probably now have to go through two trials in the future.

If I understand correctly, since the perp in the JC case committed double first degree murder, additional charges would only cause the victim more pain. Additional charges can still be filed if needed, but they won't be needed. It is best that what happened is never disclosed by LE for JC's sake. If she ever decides to talk about it, it will be her choice.

Not the case with SLP. If there are additional sexual abuse crimes that we are not aware of, BR will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

I wonder... it says

"The same day that the girl was found safe, officials announced her adoptive father, Randall Pruitt, had been arrested and charged with rape in Tennessee. Probable cause documents from Monroe County show Pruitt’s arrest stemmed from photos and videos taken on his cellphone."

Aren't all the charges against BDR that we know of so far coming out of Madison?

Yes, I believe you are correct. I don't believe we have seen a probable cause affidavit from Monroe for RP as docs were sealed. Is that what you remember?

Charges for BDR are in federal court now, so information has been really limited.

OH DANG! UGH! Sorry. So RP was taping this also?! No wonder SLP fought BDR on doing a video! Oh fiddlesticks!!!

ETA: SLP really did save herself! She sent HER video in an email to BDR. Oh man. She didn't need proof!! She just needed out!

All this attention on the guy that acted like a standard online predator. If there wasn’t abuse going on in the home, no one would give a second thought to throwing the book at a 31 year old man doing what this guy did. Online predators look for their “in” and it’s usually the child’s discontent with a parent or parents. SP was an easy target.
What truly concerns me is that this the lousy excuse of a father that repeatedly violated and abused this young girl may not even get convicted. The tape was blurry ( so much he is not named ) and no rape kit was administered on a timely basis. I am truly worried that there isn’t enough evidence to convict.
I wish a hero had gotten this child to a hospital immediately after one of RP’s assaults.
