Found Deceased TN - Tamia Taylor, 21, met friend at 11:30pm and got on a riverboat, when riverboat docked she was missing, Memphis, 9 Sep 2023

  • #81
In the very beginning her mother said she was with a friend, not friends like we are hearing now.
*Yes, you’re right. I forgot about that.

Memphis police say Tamia’s mother told them Tamia was coming to Memphis to meet friends for a riverboat ride scheduled for 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

They said the mother told police that Tamia’s friend said she never got on the boat.

Her mother initially told police she didn’t think her daughter made it onto the boat because a friend told her she didn’t. An update from police, however, said she boarded the boat, police said.
*Why did this one friend think Tamia wasn’t on the boat?

I can see it happening like this: Tamia and her friends are all tipsy. She leaves her phone on the table because she doesn’t have pockets, doesn’t register setting it down, whatever. The friends pick it up and wait by the door since the cruise is over. There is a lot going on with people disembarking and they wonder if Tamia already left the boat because they don’t see her. They leave the boat, still with her phone. When they don’t connect with her on the dock, they figure she must have caught a ride. They obviously can’t call her. It makes sense if everyone was tipsy.

I also want to know if this friend was on the boat or just communicating with Tamia on her phone.

What did the 'friends' do with her phone. Her mother stated that she could not get up with her daughter.

IMO, this is going to be the case. What happened to Tamia occurred off the boat after the cruise ended.
It's starting to appear that way.
:(
Omo.

Yes

I'm also assuming here that she had been heavily drinking, celebrating her 21st birthday. I doubt she could even disembark the boat by herself. I think her friends helped her. JMO

Early reports from her mother I believe said they gathered elsewhere first to celebrate then went to be boat

And also IF one of the friends truly DID contend at first that she hadn't gotten on the boat, that's an odd contention to make isn't it. Just odd if it's true that someone in her group thought that. There's more here and LE is on it, I have no doubt.

Glad to see the case is still getting attention here and elsewhere.

TAMIA TAYLOR

Where is she?

Yes, this does make sense. I was thinking it through a sober lens.
I hope they find her soon, preferably alive. I always feel for the families with no answers.

We also do not know if drinks were had before the boat trip.
If they were down on Beale street they very most likely, undoubtedly had drinks before the boat, IMO.

That was my thought too. Usually the girls go to the restroom together. JMO I also question a girl leaving her phone behind. They are usually glued to the phone.
At this point, I’m hoping they didn’t somehow take her phone.
I wish we knew more about the relationship between her and the friends.

I realize they didn’t all drive to the location to board the boat together, however, who leaves a place, much less a dam: boat knowing their friend “left her phone and ran to the bathroom”. No, sorry! Don’t believe them. I wonder how long they “waited” at the door-which, by the way would probably be on the dock because they were getting off and the employees would have ushered all patrons off of the boat, imo.
I would like to know what the employees’ had to say-claim to have cameras so did they see her go to the bathroom? Anyone?
I can’t believe the boat doesn’t have a video cam on the entrance / exit to the boat.

That’s another problem with the story. Why’d friend say at first that she didn’t get on the boat? She just changed her story after finding out about the video?

And if she fell in the water with her handbag, I think it would have floated or at least some of the items would have.

That she left her phone on the table and went to the restroom alone doesn't raise any red flags for me.

That they grabbed her phone and went to wait for her outside near the boat also doesn't raise any red flags for me IF the boat had docked and it was time to leave, and they didn't feel they could stay sitting.

But when she doesn't turn up and, knowing she should, because they have her phone, they aren't concerned enough to stay and raise an alarm bothers me.

Maybe this was a mistake they wouldn't have made if not for alcohol consumption, though.

So now I'm curious about a few things, just speculating ideas:

- What if someone slipped something into one of her drinks?

- Could she have been the very last remaining on the boat besides an employee?

- Was it chaotic and really plausible that she and her friends simply missed each other when she exited the boat? Or should they absolutely have seen her based on where they waited?

- How long did they actually wait?

- Were they asked to voluntarily turn their phones over to law enforcement?

- Have any search warrants been requested?

JMO but if the friends waited after they exited the boat, there is no way they would have not seen her exited down the gangway.

I would if I didn't have a pocket to stick it it in - rather than set it down in a dirty public bathroom.

Almost all of the 18-30 girls I know carry their phones, lippy, money etc in their bras!. They certainly wouldn't leave their phones on a table while they went to the bathroom.

If she did leave the riverboat, two scenarios:

1. Her friends had her phone and, thus, couldn't reach her and she couldn't reach them, so they left without her. They really don't know what happened.

2. She left with her friends, something happened to her after disembarking, and for some reason her friends have her phone (which means they are lying about her not leaving the boat).

@Inthedetails : I'm on the fence, but right now -- am leaning towards number 2 ?

Did any store security cams (outdoor venues sometimes have outside cameras) catch her away from the boat/dock ?
Omo.

If she did indeed disembark, they'd better have helped her. Friends, acquaintances or total strangers, it's the right thing to do.
