Tornadoes on the ground in Dallas - Fort Worth greater area

Man, it was CRAZY here today. I live about 30 miles east of Dallas, but just North of Forney. We had a tornado hit here in our town. It took out some businesses on Hwy 276. Also had a house that the roof collapsed in on. They had to get chainsaws to get them out. Thankfully no serious injuries. Had some other houses pretty much leveled. So thankful there were no serious injuries out here, and praying for the families all over the metroplex who have lost their homes.

There is a "space ship" right across the hwy from these homes and some businesses and it wasnt touched. This looks like a flying saucer out of the movies from the 50's. Some builder thought in the 60s- 70's that he could build houses like that and people would buy them. Its the only one there, and has been sitting there for years. Too bad the tornado couldnt have hit it instead.

I have only heard that the school was not hit and no deaths have been reported at all. At 10:00 local ABC is doing an hour long report. I am praying no one was killed anywhere in the storms.

I clearly, and thankfully, got some wrong information.

I'm always amazed when I see pictures of a house that is just demolished and is a pile of debris, yet the people who were in the home are standing giving interviews. Unbelievable! So amazing!

HLN just reported that there were no deaths. That's absolutely amazing to me after seeing the footage. :rocker:

:rocker: Hooray!

Schools did the right thing keeping the kids inside and prepared. Tornadoes didn't happen in the middle of the night. Lots of reporting on the news and other social media informing the people in the Dallas and surrounding areas where each storm was heading.

I think we can learn some lessons from Texans!

Our tornadoes today were rain wrapped and you couldn't see them until it was too late. Lucky noone was killed today. It is still moving through the state but to the north and east. I think we may have more coming, but not sure when. Thanks for all the good thought.
TG you are safe neighbor!! HUGS.

Let me say I still don't understand driving towards one of those things. I know they can pop up anywhere at any time during such a storm, but if I saw one, there is no way I would be driving toward it.

It's amazing how still everything is on this neighborhood street while the tornado was passing by.

It's amazing how still everything is on this neighborhood street while the tornado was passing by.

It almost looked like a nuclear bomb blast at one point. And it looked like there were two tornadoes from one huge storm cloud. Incredible how time just stops and everything stops breathing for a moment.

At one point the person taking the video points, like to saw stay. I didn't know that worked, I'll have to try that if I ever see a tornado heading my way. It's really awesome the way they just dissipate.

Best footage I've seen of the trailers being tossed like feathers. God bless everyone. Just amazing.

To think these trailers weight around 30,000 lbs. empty. They were picked up like tonka toys and thrown. If that was to fall on a house or car with someone in it, chances are the outcome would have been different. It was a good thing they were empty also, that also helped with the debris not hurting someone.

The more I see that stuff, the more I'm amazed that nobody was killed. The power of a storm like that is awe inspiring.

I know it. So, because my friends just went through something I never thought we California folk would have to face, I have been obsessing a bit about tornadoes. I found this footage from the Joplin MO tornado, one of the most devastating of tornadoes in our history. This is a must see (or must hear). These people were at a gas station. Strangers, helping each other. It is the most compelling of any tornado video I have seen thus far. It completely transmits the impact of such an event on the people going through it. Made me cry.

This is a must see!

herry Enochs piled the three children she was babysitting into a bathtub and held on tight Tuesday as her home fell apart around them.

Minutes later, a neighbor heard screams and came running to help. He pulled Enochs and the children to safety, leaving a puzzling mystery.

"There was no tub," said Enochs' daughter, Bobbie Deen. "Did she get sucked out, or did she flip over? We don't know... but the tub is gone."

For those who live in the surrounding areas, even up to hundred miles away.

Check your yards. On the last tornado up here, people were finding pictures and documents. A couple of websites went up posting what they found and people have been able to identify their documents and pictures and get them back.

When you have lost a home and everything in it, those pictures can be priceless.
