Toronto mayor admits crack use

And somewhere in that ITO is the account of the teacher who was riding his bicycle in an area behind the hotel and saw RF in his SUV exchanging something for a package with a young man who was not Lisi. Apparently the area is known as "crack alley"?

And this was in August. So in a three day period he had a domestic altercation at his home where police were called, moved into the hotel on Jarvis for three days, was seen in what looked to be a drug purchase, went to a Conservative BBQ with Stephen Harper present, was kept away from Harper because he was inebriated and then got in his vehicle and drove away which prompted calls to police again and an alert to be on the lookout for him driving his SUV. While this is all "alleged" if just some of it is true, those are quite the binges.

MOO

Yes it is. Hmmmm. Pretty swank place, The Grand Hotel. I've been there for a function. The surrounding area is pretty sketchy, for sure.

The Grand is very close to Ontario Court at 311 Jarvis. May be nothing.

I'm sure the lovable "Rob Ford Movie" with lovable Chris Farley isn't helping to diminish his popularity. JMO

After the domestic assault call, Ford left his home and checked in to the Grand Hotel on Jarvis St. for three nights, attending the Stephen Harper Conservative barbecue at Sunnybrook Park on one of those evenings. Lisi also paid a visit to the hotel on the first night, according to police documents.

A teacher who happened to ride by on a bicycle on the day before the barbecue says he observed the mayor parked in his Cadillac Escalade on a back street behind the Grand Hotel, accepting something from a man on foot.
The area behind the hotel is known as “crack central” by locals. The Star does not know what Ford was handed by the man on foot.

Also very interesting he chose the Grand Hotel considering that the Sheraton Hotel is directly across from City Hall.

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m., Toronto teacher W.A. was cycling on his way to play tennis when he saw Ford in his black Escalade in an area immediately east of the Grand Hotel. A. told Torstar that he saw Ford motion to someone on the street and the man came up to him, accepted something from Ford, then left. Ford backed onto a parking pad adjacent to Gabrielle Roy school and the man reappeared and passed something to Ford through the open window of the Escalade. A said he found the interaction odd.

A said “it was very clearly the mayor, and it was an unusual thing to see at that time of day.”

Torstar does not know what changed hands between the man, described as being in his early 20s, and the mayor.

The next day, Thursday, Aug. 29, the Stephen Harper barbecue, a Conservative party event, was held at Sunnybrook Park.

Later on Thursday:

Ford showed up at the beginning of the event and posed for photos with many of the attendees. At some point during the evening, the mayor left without ever approaching the prime minister, according to other sources with knowledge of the evening. The sources say that because there were concerns that the mayor left the event impaired and drove back to the Grand Hotel, police visited him later that evening.

I think the mayor was buying crack. Just sayin'. I don't think someone can smoke crack once or twice and stop.

It's possible imo for someone to casually use it once or twice... but Ford's habitual drinking leads me to believe he has an addictive personality, in which case self-regulating with this substance would be very hard. IMO

And why crack, for heaven's sake? You never know what's mixed in.

So glad his t.v. show was cancelled.

Rob Ford storms out of budget meeting as city unveils plan to hike property taxes 2.5%

Mayor Rob Ford blames a 2.5% tax hike proposed by city staff on his effective demotion as chief magistrate and lashes out at the “embarrassing” return to “tax and spend” ways. Councillor Doug Ford says the “political will” to cut costs has evaporated at city hall.

But their assessment of Toronto’s proposed $9.6-billion operating budget met an unexpected challenger Monday in city manager Joe Pennachetti, who insisted council’s vote a week ago to sharply restrict Mayor Ford’s powers did not change the proposals one iota.

He denied having promised to deliver a budget that would trim the land transfer tax and help pay for a subway while keeping property taxes at 1.75% — a figure Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly suggested, with pantomime, Mayor Ford had plucked from thin air.

Yes! Why crack and why off the streets in sketchy neighborhoods from sketchy people, when he has the money to buy anything he wants?

This guy has been using all his life. He didn't just wake up one day and decide to start using drugs. IMO, with him anything and everything goes and always has.

That's why I'm so blown away by people saying he has a problem as though it's something that came about recently. He has not changed or gotten worse IMO. He may have gotten bolder because he got away with it for so long and felt as though he was untouchable. This is a result of constant effort by many to reprimand him and in the end he always got his way. Also, their have been many times he could/should have been charged with a crime and wasn't.

What about his kids and the domestic violence and substace use in the home?

The mayor has been under the influence and out of control when performing duties as mayor, so I don't buy the argument of "what someone does on their own time is their own business."

Who in their right mind would want someone like this running their city? I'm not sure exactly how much work if any he has done. It seems like there was a lot of people babysitting him all along. He's a liability with a fat paycheck.

RSBM

Well, his family does have a long and proud history in the drug business. Maybe he trusts his brother's connections:

But I agree - why go with crack when he has the money and connections to get the good stuff? Maybe I'm a snob.

Yes. And I think he's spiraling. The more he loses touch, the less judgment he has. It was really disturbing to see him on that live feed of the council vote.

Has it been posted here about his "fitness consultant"? A convicted steroids trafficker who is banned from coaching athletes in Canada:

This is quite funny .. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_ovkbQeqsc"]Rob Ford Asked: 'Are You Having Fun Right Now' in Fox O'Reilly Factor's Interview - YouTube[/ame]

He's loving this?

Judge Nordheimer ordered the release of the remaining redacted sections of the ITO, but it won't be available until at least Dec. 6 pending appeal.
This will include transcripts from wiretaps on Sandro Lisi.
Ford might be heard approving of Lisi's methods for trying to recover the missing phone and crack video.

Spoke too soon on the prospect of Ford being caught on the tapes.

Apparently, he's not actually heard on any of the recordings. So if there's any conversation about him by several of the accused, he could try to wiggle out of it by claiming he had no idea of any of it. That argument might hold up in court & would explain why he hasn't yet been charged with anything, but...

My apologies to the fine people of Toronto, but he's a hilarious train wreck! Chris Farley would have had a field day! How in the h*ll did this guy ever get elected?

His insistence that people mess up, but he should be forgiven because he may or may not have saved constituents money. . . :floorlaugh: I get the feeling his defense is, "Come on! Everyone smokes crack once in a while!" WTF?

What is in the air in Toronto?

I just got off the phone with my 85 year old father, who lives in Toronto. (He absolutely hates Rob Ford, and has disliked him since he was elected. He calls him a buffoon.) My father told me he had a doctor appointment today and he told his doctor he thinks he needs pot for his pain. (My father apparently suffers from fibromyalgia.) Now his doctor is fairly old, as far as actively practicing doctors go, and he told my father that he had never medically prescribed pot before. My father now has to fill in 8 pages of forms to see if he 'qualifies' for medically prescribed marijuana. He told my sister he needs her to come over this weekend to help him fill in the forms. :scared:

I am seriously going to split my gut laughing! Our family has never had anyone into drugs. (As long as you don't count the time, many, many, many years ago, that my older sister came home for Christmas break in her first year of university, and brought home her roommate's plants ("zinnias", aka marijuana) to take care of, since her roommate went home to Minnesota for the break. My father confirmed tonight, when I asked, that he and our mom actually thought it was zinnias that they were watering over the holidays!)

So now I have to deal with the probability that my father will be smoking bud. I hope it ends up being good quality BC bud! :floorlaugh:
