Looks like a simple bunker to me. Don't know what the big deal is for this to be international news.

But for what purpose? Most likely an illegal and nefarious one. And probably connected to terrorism, imo.

Just looks like one of the dozens of "doomsday bunkers" on YouTube.
What do you think a terrorist would do with a bunker?

Look below. Why would anyone build a doomsday bunker in that place rather than on their own property?

I don't think so. IMO this was almost certainly part of a terrorist plot. The bunker was constructed inside what will be the security perimeter for the Pan-Am games. I suspect that the bunker was constructed so that terrorists could secrete weapons (bombs and automatic rifles) inside the secure perimeter long before it is established. This would enable a small militia of terrorists to easily get past security during the games and stage a massive attack on spectators. Logically if terrorists want to stage an attack on a secure venue this is the only way that they can accomplish their goals since they are not going to get past security on the day of the attack with automatic weapons and bombs. It reminds me of the Westgate Mall massacre in Kenya. In the weeks prior to the attack the terrorists used a store under construction to secrete weapons.

Maybe they don't have their own property to build it on. In fact most folks in Toronto don't have their own property.
But I will say that if LE thought it was just a bunker, it shouldn't be international news. They must be leaving something out.
I just can't fathom a reason a terrorist group would use this type of bunker for. A tunnel? Yes absolutely. But this doesn't appear to be a tunnel.

This one was reportedly right next to the venue for the Pan Am Games. Maybe they wanted to arm themselves and then hide in the bunker, while the
LE security perimeter was set up surrounding the Pan Am venue. Then they could pop out, armed and ready for battle. LOTS of people would die, if that was the case.

Maybe, but wasn't the bunker on the outside of what would be the security perimeter ?

No, it was not clear. It was reportedly very close. And there is time to build a tunnel that moves closer, I think.

We don't know if this is a bunker, or an elaborate tunneling system to gain access to the Pan Am games.

We don't know if the people doing the digging/constructing were even done yet. The weather could have put them off for a few months.

I have to admit, the first thing that popped in my head after, "Ohhh s**t!" was terrorism.

Me too, but that was when it was being reported as a tunnel. Just not enough info given to make a conclusion. They must have had a press conference for a reason.

It looks like it was built right alongside the tennis courts. It seems like a very strategic place to pop out armed with automatic weapons and take out the crowd in the stands. JMO

Yea could be. I just thought I saw somewhere it was outside of security perimeter.
Also of note , I believe we have an "anti-terrorism" bill being voted on soon. Funny how things like this always pop up at seemingly just the right time.

I wonder if the rosary beads means it could be "Catholic Extremists" :)

Sounds like it but the fence was cut and a path cleared right to the bunker. I would think terrorists would be more stealthy? It's in the middle of a university campus so I am leaning towards students up to no good ;) I do think that security and policing should be increased though and the dang thing should have been investigated more closely.

What sort of terrorist would hang a rosary and a Remembrance Day poppy?

The one that wants people to think it couldn't possibly be terrorism? ;) :D

That wooden rosary made me think of Jessica Ridgeway who was abducted and murdered by a young guy who dropped his wooden cross necklace. I remember sleuthing out that necklace for way to long. Myself, I haven't seen a rosary like that one. Sleuthing time?

The poppy can mean that the digging finished a bit around or after the time these were being given out, so around November 11 2014. This makes sense since the ground likely started to freeze around then.

Did LE bring in cadaver dogs to make sure no one died in there?
