But it doesn't have to be just for attention, right? Can't someone malinger in order to avoid work, to get drugs or for any other goal?

O/T Anybody who's watching HLN right now - Dr Drew is talking about how teenagers acting out by skipping school and drinking and drugging is a sign of underlying mental health in teens. I totally agree - I wish there were more public education and awareness about this.

I agree. In fact, I think it's an attempt to self medicate.

Wonder why this roommate! Say anything to her? Was he too under her spell. I mean surely he knew Travis was trying to distance himself from her?

I can see a couple of reasons for it. He could have been under her spell too as you said or he could have been trying to facilitate Travis' removal of this horror from his life. I can completely see someone thinking that it would encourage her to go away already. I can even the imagine the conversation....

I've been thinking about this bit of Samuels' testimony. Although he does not really come out and say it clearly, it seems that what he's getting at is that Jodi created the Ninja story because she was in such denial and could not allow herself to accept that she had so brutally butchered Travis -- as if Jodi really believed the Ninja story that she created.

I just don't buy it since she had already told the 'I wasn't there' story and didn't create this "alternate reality" of the murdering home invading ninjas until AFTER she learned from Flores that they had pictures placing her at the scene.

Also, wouldn't the 'fight or flight' mode kick in for both the victim and attacker? I would imagine Travis' adrenaline was pumped as well when he was fighting back (defensive wounds on hands).

I guess I'm just not buying much of this so called witness. But then again, according to him...it must be difficult for some to understand unless you have "an advanced degree".
