Wow, this is hard. The judge talks too fast for me. This is my first time doing this, so bear with me. lease:

Juror Questions for Dr. Samuels 3/21/13
Judge Stephens: Please be seated [start time 10:59 AZ time]. Counsel please approach.
Arias aunts in seats, Katie DDJ present. Alexander siblings Samantha, Steven, Tanisha, husband Harold present. Maybe another sister? JA in red top & white shirt.
Dr. Samuels takes the stand, opens binder. Judge not smiling. Lots of whispering between JA & JW. JA looking a little nervous, sighing, licking lips.
Please stand for the jury.
Judge Stephens: Dr. Samuels, You are still under oath. I will ask questions from the jury in the order they were submitted.
[VERY hard to get questions because judge speaks so fast.]
DS: A client is instructed that he does not have the same degree of confidentiality [when evaluation is done for a criminal charge, as opposed to other setting].
Q: In fight-or-flight scenario, is it just fight OR flight? Depends largely on circumstances. May begin as flight and change to fight as flight becomes impossible.
Q: Can fight or flight occur at the same time? Yes.
Objection. Overruled.
DS: A person can flee to the point where they cannot flee any more.
Q: Can memories blocked by fight-or-flight return or are they lost forever? If the hippocampus takes over I doubt the memories can be restored. But here they cannot be retrieved.
DS: The diagnosis of PTSD is based on evaluation, based on 35 years of experience, look at fact pattern, circumstances that occur, what characteristics are present in the client. She does meet the criteria of PTSD.
Q: Did you hypnotize her? No. Did anyone else hypnotize her? Not to my knowledge. Why not? It would not be helpful if the memories do not exist.
Q: Could you extricate old memories? If some reviews photographs, etc., they might form pseudo-memories but they are not real memories. You can implant memories in a child by repeating something to them often enough, but in my opinion not likely with adult.
Q: Would others in your field concur with each other? Rarely. We couch our diagnoses as “in all probability.” Other forms of medicine can be more precise.

I'm starting to think the jury will deliberate in an embarrassingly short time.

I've wondered about this, but don't want to get ahead of things or be overly optimistic.

If, just if, they did have a full 12 count of guilty on the first vote, wonder how long they would "chat" before announcing that they arrived at a verdict?

So it was a juror! I heard that and assumed it was JA's mother or aunt. Guess she was as amused as we were by the doc's answers.

Considering JA is nuts even if a juror glared at her she'd probably think 'omg that juror has the hots for me. Maybe he's in love with me!'

I'm the eternal optimist. She will be found guilty of first degree murder by this jury.

She would view a glare exactly that way. And if you stabbed her it would turn her on.

Most of the jurors' questions have challenged him and his testimony.

Some have been downright snarky, snipey, sassy, sarcastic, etc.

He also gave the jury a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card by saying that PTSD is not one, IMO.

I think that was a deliberate defense strategy to invite the jury to find her guilty of 2nd degree or even 1st degree murder and sentence her to LWOP vs. death penalty.

Who really cares about PTSD - it happened, if it did happen at all, AFTER the premeditation and the actual killing the two things that we and the jury need to focus on to get a conviction. She can have POST-TSD for the rest of her life in her DP cell for all I care. This soctor and his baloney is all a smoke screen.

If it doesn't matter what score the patient puts down,if it doesn't matter if the patient is being truthful about the events, if it doesn't matter that the patient continues to lie about the events, if the raw data/score/percentage can't be interpreted on its own, if it isn't important that the test be administered within the timeframe instructed, if you're so convinced that the patient isn't smart enough to beat the exam and following the protocols in administering isn't important to you...THEN WHY WASTE EVERYONE'S TIME GIVING IT:furious::banghead::rocker::banghead:

Mr. Expert, you seriously believe that you acted professionally, never crossed any ethical boundaries, and are an unbiased examiner in this case???:rocker:

Hating most. Some were okay but it was at the end. Feels like they give him more credence than he deserves for sure.

*Some* of them sound as if they are buying the PTSD story as an explanation for the memory loss..... and IMHO it's the fake memory loss that really nails her.

But I'm a pessimist by nature. Ben Franklin said, "I'd rather be a pessimist because then I can only be pleasantly surprised.".

I didn't hear any question that was snarky, sniffy, sassy, sarcastic, etc.
Wish I had. They all appeared very respectful of him. Ugh.

There you go. A juror was laughing and Jodi was probably just asking if Wilmott noticed. I doubt they smiled at her.
