:blushing: awe thanks! :seeya:

I just came in WS as the "underdog"; and you guys were patient with me.
Lol. This is my first forum experience and got spanked on my first to fifth post, and I got scared and ran off for a day or two. But I came back and talked with the person in private message and it all worked out really well. :blushing:

snipped...

And it doesn't sound like she eats, sleeps and lives on the expert witness stand. And that bothers me... WHY is she getting up there for JA and the defense? Why this case? Certainly, the money will be good, but is there something about this case that made her want to go to bat for JA?

My guess is she feels justified because it will help her cause in the future because she will get so much public exposure she will likely be offered a pundit role on national television when discussing future cases - or she will write a book and have a wider audience from the public exposure.

People generally are self-serving. Not all people, but they do tend to base their actions in a self-serving way, even if they find a way to justify it and may even believe in their own justification.

And the mocking of appearances in general, male or female, is really petty and immature and something that I'm happy that most people here stick to criticism based on testimony <3[/QUOTE

Honestly, I have not mocked appearance, however, I have read a lot of everything. And NOW, JUST NOT it is an issue?

Me thinks it's a little hypocritical.

Juror question: What is the difference between covering up and alternative reality?

Dr. Samuels: “Covering up is a voluntary, creating an alibi for yourself. The alternative reality is a psychological process, known as a defense mechanism, and it occurs through subconscious forces. The individual who is afflicted by that oftentimes is not even aware of the depth of their cognitive distortion."

What sort of gobbledygook is this? Alternative reality??? While doing her 'mea culpa' on Direct examination, JA 'confessed' that she was just trying to 'throw everyone off her scent' with her actions after murdering Travis. She also admitted that knew it was
'just a matter of time' before she was caught! So where is the 'alternate reality? She was covering up! The jury gets it!

So true! I wonder if he even remotely believed in what he was saying, it's just too ridiculous. Pretzel logic!

I have to admit that under all the stress of my real life and my sincere emotion about this tragedy I have LOLed a few times at things that were genuinely funny. Never at any insulting or outwardly hurtful things though. But I think, from my limited experience here, that no one would intentionally be hurtful, just tossing things out there without really intending that there would be someone here on WS that would be hurt. It doesn't make really hurtful things okay, and maybe this was a good thing to remind us all that behind those keystrokes are real hearts and souls.
I'm sorry if you've been hurt or insulted here for any reason. I do love and admire this group, no matter their views or opinions. Maybe some of us just got down in the yuck muck to relieve the tension, not realizing that it would offend or hurt.

Actually, she already wrote a book and she mentioned today the 3rd edition of this book comes out in April! Great timing! Whodathunk?

Mr. zig and I comment on it in the realm of "if you had to cast this as a movie, you couldn't find a better character". Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction when it comes to the cast of characters here. IRL they are more colorful than they would ever be, had they been cast.

You don't wanna know!

I kid, I kid. You just copy the gif and then click the little yellow icon above the post box (looks like a mountain and sun) then copy your gif.

I find humor lovely in such a sh***y situation.

Of course not... t's always an issue. A bunch of homophobic/misogynistic comments were made and removed in the last thread, and it was particularly bad. Not sure how this is hypocritical?

It is absolutely appalling the way they are accusing Travis of abuse on HLN After Dark right now. I don't care if this is just a game to them, they are hurting Travis' family. Unless they are 100 % sure, they should stop this.

I completely understand what you are saying, however, I see it in a different light. The actual defense in this trial is asserting that Travis abused the defendant. On this show, they are merely using that point, making arguments to "their jury", presenting "their case" and asking their jury to decide if he did or didn't. Dr. Drew was on for the "State" and made some valid arguments regarding Travis' behavior, and basically said it was JA who was the abuser.

MOO

That program is a total waste of time! I watched 3 minutes of it when they reproduced Travis' closet - it was a joke!

Oops?
Ut oh my bad.. are yahoo, quack and doc mcgoo bad nicknames?
they could be easily replaced with an icon instead if bothers ya'll

I don't mind general nicknames like that for someone you're aggravated with. The McGoo thing came from HLN because I heard that, lol, so it seems general.

It's the personal insults that I've never liked, where folks pick on some shallow part of a person's looks, most often. It's probably because I remember how bad it feels to have someone do that behind my back growing up! I understand it's just frustration, but it really is so petty to pick on shallow things, imho. A good all-purpose insult like Yahoo works great for me if you're angry at someone :)

I take it you're another Swift fan like me?! Awesome satirist :D

It's only just occuring to me now that JA has ruined my favourite Christmas carol for me. But on a FAR more important note,

I feel horrible for this jury. Not only did JA take TA's life, and devastate his loved ones, now she's wasted hundreds of hours of these peoples' lives.

I hope a verdict is reached relatively soon :|

I'm with you there, commspec, but I think they'll still be there for a while more.
I think ALV will be on the stand for both sides this week (3 more days) and next week; then, assuming the defense rests, rebuttal and CA's - 2 weeks; verdict, 1 week; if G on 1st, mitigation/penalty phase, 2 wks; verdict 1 week.

Puh-leeze, someone, tell me I am exaggerating on this!

Why was the doctor at the end of the day standing in the middle of the aisle for a few minutes by himself? I can't figure that out and I just came in the door.

Yep, I think he may have been waiting to 'get his papers/binder back' since he kept his bag open.. doc mcgoo has a bit of a temper issue too.. if you watch it again you will see that he turns around (after waiting and standing there like a derp) and snatches his bag off the table.. guess he felt beaten up and can't get his paperwork back either? the poor yahoo needs a stiff one this evenin :martini:

Me thinks the judge is just not confident enough in her decisions so she welcomes and even invites these "aproaches" which allows her to hear the lawyers arguments for each side and then it helps her make the right decision. Without hearing both sides, she is not confident enough to make the right call.

Excellent thought and I think I can now see it that way too. I just wish she wouldn't change rulings from what she previously ruled on or in or out. I think the defense uses her hesitation and caution against the PT and often gets to sneak things in she previously kept out..which is, of course, hard on Travis' family and makes me worry about Travis getting justice.

ALZ is in a tough position.

She's very busy with the schedule she describes and I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that SHE HAS NO IDEA that her career is on the line.

When my friend, a doctor, injured her neck in a car accident, she became an expert witness on drug interactions. She developed a reputation and word of mouth spread that she could be trusted to testify based on the POV of the side hiring her, pros or def, and it did not matter because she stuck to the science and the cases.

I worked for her as a paralegal and we skipped studies and cases which were not persuasive for her employer's side. Also, I can tell you for a fact that she did not care one whit what went on in a given trial before or after she got up to testify.

That's why I have a hunch that this highly-qualified woman does not really understand that her "I understand both sides" attitude is why she has been hired to explain why Jodi Arias fits the profile of an abuse victim. I'll bet she has NOT studied SM relationships and has NO INFORMATION about the case other than what the defense has given her in order to elicit the opinion they want.

Which means she will be blindsided by Juan the Machine. He will start with "Would it surprise you to know, that is, would it make a difference if you knew that------" Now she is in the crosshairs. Will she compromise her principles to continue to support Travis as an abuser and Arias as the victim? Or will she refuse to answer based on having insufficient information?

If she does the former, her career will be over. If she does the latter, then the prosecution will quickly give her the information she is needed, with their slant, and the defense will object (overruled) and the defense will have made a huge mistake.

Mark my words, Juan Martinez will switch their expert witness to testifying on behalf of the prosecution and he will do it so skillfully it will be like watching a master sculptor.
