People in the area are used to the smell of a dead animal, very often you find them in the ditches along the sideroads, etc. If he did smell something, he could have thought it was a dead animal somewhere. I have no idea if the smell is different of a human compared to an animal. Anyone know?

With reference to the CA trial and their expert on this topic, (sorry, can't remember his name) and with much respect for saying this, this expert compared the smell of human decomp to that of a decaying pig.

Maybe he wasn't aware of the news reports concerning the case, and wasn't aware that police were on the lookout for her remains. The lady in the CFRB 1010am interview stated he is a Menonite. Maybe they are very old fashioned, and do not have radio, tv or internet. :twocents:

If you missed the interview I'm talking about you can hear it here:

The owners did not know about this case, when VS was discovered on July 19th one of the non mennonite neighbours had to fill them in about the case.

Due to the state of decomposition there was no physical evidence of sexual interference found on body, court hears

Crown now asking Pollanen about the autopsy he did on #ToriStafford on July 20, 2009 - day after she was discovered

Due to the decomposition of Tori Stafford, no evidence of sexual interference was found. However, it is not reasonable to expect to find any

Crown reads admission (facts in case, no further proof needed) in court. Says Tori Stafford was identified by dental records

strange he didn't notice the garbage bags or the odour of decay...JMO
He probably did notice an odour, but that's common out in the country with dead raccoons, etc.

Pollanen said a key part of the team was a forensic anthropologist, an expert on bones

Pollanen says they examine wounds, tissues and body fluids to determine a cause of death, in this case, decomposition added to difficulty

Pollanen knew the body was in a "relatively closed environment", so decomposition was delayed or slowed,

Dr. Pollanen says the use of a forensic anthropologist was key. Specialist on bones Used when body is grossly decomposed. #Rafferty

Pollanen said it was important to know the body had been sealed in bags and rocks placed on it.

Court told Pollanen could not find evidence of "sexual interference" on the remains but this "could not be reasonably expected to be found"
