I don't agree with the pageant scene, but I don't think the Ramseys were at fault for the the murder of their child, if it is proven to be someone outside the family that murdered her based on her pageant performances.
My daughters perform all the time: basketball, softball, volleyball (have you seen those volleyball bottoms), track, tennis, band, soccer, plays, walking through the mall, etc., etc.
Since I allow them to participate in these activities and something were to happen to them because some sick, perverted, individual who lusted after girls playing their instrument, liked how girls looked in the volleyball bottoms, or thought 13 year olds playing basketball was sexy, I would be at fault?
People are sick, crazy, weird, etc. I bet if we picked any type of activity that our children could be involved in there would be some sicko out there that got off on that.
It's the perverts that cause the problem. Why shouldn't those parents that want their children to participate in those contests be able to (I don't condone the Vegas Show girls for a 6 yo)? So the daughter that had to walk home from basketball practice that gets kidnapped shouldn't be playing basketball right? No ballet for "your" daughter cause she wears a tutu? No football for "your" boy because the pants are too tight?
It's the person who committed the crime's fault. They chose the action!!
