Louisiana has a better Governor....

And New Orleans has a better mayor.....

Tremendous work has been done on the levees.

And I'm hoping that the mindset of many in New Orleans has shifted.

I'm not talking about those who have no way of getting out.........elderly, disabled, no car......talking about the people who ride it out in a soup bowl and could have left.

Thank God all of the above is true............

An hour ago, my tv on the WeatherChannel was "screaming" at me due to a Tornado Watch. Now it is screaming at me about a Flash Flood Warning.

Remember, I'm only in the bands of Isaac and it ain't purdy. Take heed.

There are some very poor people in New Orleans who did not have the means to evacuate in a timely manner, and that is a fact. Some people cannot just pick up and leave. A lot of people were left in very dangerous positions because of how the officials handled it.

Respectfully snipped by me.

I watched a documentary just last night on Katrina. I felt much compassion for those elderly and physically incapacitated who were rescued after the waters began to rise. The staff of Charity Hospital.... not knowing the fates of their owned loved ones.... I just couldn't imagine being in their shoes.

Those able bodies that were filling up the buggies at Wal-mart with the "free stuff"............not so much. The ones that were stealing from the liquor stores and riding around on boats doling it out for "free"......... not so much.

In the documentary, I saw the elderly and frail expressing gratitude and heartfelt thanks. I saw the able-bodied shouting about a certain race of people and what they had or hadn't done to help them.

My prayers are that those same elderly and incapacitated people have someone helping them to evacuate safely this time. My prayer for the able is that they learned a serious lesson from their experience. My gut tells me some still have not.

EXACTLY!!! Those that truly needed the help and couldn't get out were ever so thankful.

Those that could get out and didn't were so quick to play the race card and blame the government. And it was not the government that was responsible. It was them who REFUSED to leave.

I seriously hope everyone in the path of Isaac will heed the warnings and get out...we don't need another nightmare like Katrina.

Can we get a check in thread for members that are directly in the path?

My parents went today to get their boat from Appalachicola ( I hope I spelled that right. I just like saying it. :P ) They are in a small town outside of Jax so they can trailer their boat home and store it on their property. Debi washed out their roads though :P

We have had record rainfall here in SC this year too, but we needed it. Now the kids are mildewing.

Stay safe those that are in the path!
I have a good friend in Tampa and they have closed schools tomorrow.

sorry to laugh... But when you said "the kids are mildewing" I couldn't help myself!
:silly:

But... I am following this thread to see how our WS Peeps in the track of Isaac are doing..

and am keeping you all in my prayers!

:praying:

Mayor Mitchell Landrieu sat down with Katie Moore to discuss evacuation and the option of shelters of last resort as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches.

Mayor Landrieu: The thing that troubles me the most about this storm is that it’s so close to us. In the event that it moves to a much, much stronger storm--which we don’t have any indication it’s going to but we want to prepare for the worst—then it would put us in some trouble. Until then ,we want to watch it very ,very closely and tell people to be prepared. Be prepared to shelter in place because that’s what it looks like it’s going to be now. But of course these things can change overnight. If you’re able to leave, if you feel uncomfortable, if you’ve been through one of these before, now would be a great time to go.

Even though the mayor is saying they want everyone to shelter where they are, he is giving MIXED messages, as evidenced by the post above!

My gosh can we keep the discussion civil and constructive? This post lands at random.

Moore: You said no shelters of last resort. Could that happen if we are at a point that’s it too late?

Mayor Landrieu: Our position is that we are not going to have shelters of last resort. People cannot rely on the city sheltering people in the event of a major storm. And we will take whatever precautions we need to protect people but unfortunately people hear that the wrong way and they don’t make provisions for their families and for themselves and we get into the situation that we had during Katrina and Rita and we do not want to do that again.
