What programs? There is like a couple of days until this hurricane arrives. What programs are going to evacuate people that aren't able to do it? All of this is easier said then done.
And then people are blamed for not evacuating when they probably didn't have reliable transportation to even be able to do so.
All city's have evacuation plans. Its just that the people sat on their @sses and thought, oh its not going to hit us. And then they were complaining and moaning when it did hit them! There were buses ready to evacuate people, but people were not listening. The mayor of New Orleans had 1000 buses ready to load people up. Ambulances were also ready to go out and transport people in wheelchairs etc. If people are not going to heed the warnings to GET OUT, then they need to be willing to live with the consequences, and I don't think they have any rights to complain. People who stay despite being warned to get out, should be willing to accept that they are not going to be guaranteed emergency services like they normally would. That is just what Fort Myers has announced via the weather channel. You either get out, or live with the fact that emergency services are not going to be readily available to you!
Why should emergency personal put their lives in danger, because a few stupid people (no offense!) refuse to get out and get to safety? New Orleans had 3-4 days to prepare. They knew a hurricane was brewing, they just didn't know where it was gonna hit until 2 days prior. They knew when it was going to hit, so at that time they should have got the hell out of dodge! If that had of been me, I would have gotten out at the 3-4 days mark. Always better to be safe then sorry!
Also people are well aware of this storms potential, even if they think they are going to be affected they should make plans now, instead of waiting until the last minute! People knew about Katrina a week in advance, and they have known about Issac now for at least 4 days now. You cannot sit here and tell me that they have had no warning! I would get out and stay out, even if it may not hit me. Not sit on my butt and hope that it went around me.
Sorry but this is a very sensitive issue for me. People are so keen on blaming New Orleans Mayor, and the government, but the people they SHOULD be blaming is themselves, because they sat on the butts and did nothing to attempt to get out of the hurricane area. There was public transportation, and they had AMPLE time to get out! People who take no initiative need to learn that there are consequences for their behavior, and they should take responsibility for their actions!
Not attacking anyone in particular. This is just my very strong opinion!
