Troubled country singer Mindy McCready, RIP

"The point of me living is waiting to die" is a haunting line, one that belongs in a very dark song.
Close, but not the same. I wonder if Mindy ever heard this tune? I think Mindy and Townes had things in common.

My fave "cover" of this tune was performed live by someone solo, playing banjo...not recorded. :( It was one of those "moments".

Mindy's comment also reminds me of Bobby's "he who is isn't busy living is busy dying" (paraphrase, maybe...no time to link). The greatest writers inspire contemplation.

Exactly what it made me think of, Cazzie. Good call. My favorite Townes. Move it over a step and it's Kris Kristofferson's "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

Cool. ;) I adore Townes, and yes, many (most?) of his tunes are dark. I finally was going to get to hear him live; bought tickets for both nites; but they turned into (awesome) tribute nites. One of the best was Terry Allen doing Hank Williams' "Lost Highway". That cover of Townes' WATD was at a Townes wake (public) too many years ago. KUT FM in Austin, TX, did an awesome tribute as well...may be available, IDK.

Ohhhh yeah, that Kris tune...have sung to it countless times...and I'm not a singer. I also do "Midnight Train" (Gladys Knight and the Pips) but try to sing both parts (hard to do, LOL).

There's soooooooo much great music out there, and I know I've missed a lot of it. I'm nowhere near "caught up" on Kris and so many other greats.

But is there an actual quote from Moss - or just reporters saying 'this is what he said'?

It was a quote.
It was in quotation marks.

I found some bits of the phone recording to be a little difficult to understand....but did anyone else hear the part where she was blaming herself for not "saving him".....and she talked about how she "could have put the pills in his food, she could have put the pills in his drink" ---- the only thing I'm thinking this could be referring to is that he was suffering from depression also and perhaps had been on antidepressant meds but stopped taking them.......and she regrets that she didn't try to sneak them into his food/drink. ????

Sounded to me like she was under the influence of something during this conversation.....didn't seem like booze, maybe drugs?

The whole recording thing is weird to me. Did she ask her friend to record it?......at the time not planning on suicide herself and hoped that that conversation could be used down the road if she was ever accused of killing David?

Why didn't this Danno guy do something? Given her history of suicide attempts, having recently lost custody of her kids and the apparent suicide of her "soul mate", you'd think he'd have done something out of fear she'd attempt again. Those who loved her should have ensured she wasn't left alone.

That being said, I believe it was in the comments section in a CNN article about her suicide, that she hadn't attended the memorial his college buddies had for him because "none of his friends could stand her"....and there was one person who responded claiming that David wanted to leave her and I think (I'll have to try and find it) something about him having told her the night before he died that he was leaving. Motive to kill him or have someone kill him?

From everything I've read, articles in which his close friends are commenting about the utter shock of him having taken his life, the consistent theme from those who knew him was that he was a very bubbly, lively, happy, funny, outgoing person. I would think that if someone was so depressed that they resorted to suicide, they wouldn't be able to hide their depression so well from their close friends/family.

In the interview with the Channing lady on ?20/20, I found it weird that Mindy proclaimed that he was definitely not having an affair. I say that because I have not read anything anywhere about him being accused of having done so........so who was Mindy defending this to? Who was it that was allegedly saying otherwise?

Mindy's phone call to friend days before her suicide. "The point of me living is waiting to die."

I have one question about this - why would her friend record her call?? I don't get it.

I read somewhere that he suffered from bipolar disorder. But I can't find it ANYWHERE.
I'm thinking it was his medicine for that she was talking about.

But like I said, I can't find where I read it and I don't know the source.

So, rumor I guess.

I have a feeling they were both battling their own demons.

I hope they are resting in peace.

Tragic

Here is a mention of it but it doesn't say how they got the information. No source. Just says "he reportedly" suffered from it.

I would like to know reported where? By whom?

Ever since David took his own life there has been speculation that Mindy may have had something to do with his death. But during the conversation the 37-year-old revealed that she desperately tried to save the life of the man she loved – who reportedly suffered from bipolar disorder along with substance abuse issues.

Seems the info of David and Mindy having Bipolar disorder is coming from her friend Danno Hanks.
I'm not sure what to think of Hanks.

http://radaronline.com/2013/02/mind...-seemed-upbeat-day-before-she-killed-herself/

Instead, he claims the doomed couple both had bipolar disorder and a history of suicide attempts.

“This was almost inevitable,” he says. “You have two people who have mental illness living together.

“A certain chain of events happened that just lead her down this path.”

I think that Danno Hanks, sadly, is trying to get some media attention here, but for himself. His Facebook Profile is public and he's admitted that he's been receiving tons of friend request from people he doesn't know because of all this and that he's going to stop approving them. Why would he be approving them to begin with? He's sharing info there about Mindy and David that I think should be kept personal. His recording of her phone conversation and then releasing it seems tacky. His divulging that David was bipolar, well IMO it really wasn't his place to divulge this? I see Hanks as someone who is rather full of himself and it boosts his ego to associate himself with celebs. Seems kind of smarmy to me. Why would he even have his FB profile as public?

I agree with this. I get a bad feeling about him.

But I don't know him or the situation so I can't say for sure.

He could have been a great friend to her who is hurting and just trying to take up for her or clear the air.

So many unknowns.

I think it was recorded to support the idea that Wilson wasn't 'taking his meds' This would support a death by suicide.
I ,like you, have only heard Dave Wilson described as happy and his friends as being shocked that he would take his life.
No mention of depression or any mention of mental illness.
She was very upset that anyone would have the notion that he was having an affair.
I wonder what she meant in one of the taped calls when she said that she told him that she forgave him.
In one of the interviews it was said that Mindy viewed the investigation as a "witch hunt" so she was upset at answering any questions asked by LE,or at least that is my take on her comment.
A few things that stand out was her saying she didn't know if Wilson had taken his own life and her comment about the dog having a bullet in his mouth. We know how that eventually ended up.

Could he be any more disgustingly disrespectful of the dead?
Glad my Momma didn't raise me that way.

He should be ashamed. And he should have kept his mouth shut IMO.

They have been done for a LONG time.

JMO

That was rather blunt but he was with her for a year and they were going to be married so he did have time to form an opinion of her as a person.
It wasn't very nice though for him to speak ill of the dead.

But if this is true, how did Hanks know early into their phone conversation that she would bring up meds such that he'd decide to record her? And, to play the devil's advocate, just because she brought up his meds that doesn't mean it's true. She could have just as easily mentioned he struggled with mental health issues and had stopped taking his meds when she did her interview.

Was she aware their convo was recorded? Seems very disrespectful of a so-called friend to release such a painful conversation to the freaking public.

I read an article a bit ago that Wilson had bought a new truck 3 weeks before his death, and of course he was about to inherit $143,000 from a trust on Feb 11 (though money isn't everything).

So far I've only read that Hanks alleges that Wilson was bipolar, I've never read this as factual from his friends, family, coworkers, etc.

I hate to be cynical but maybe Hanks is milking this and doing all of these interviews and such because he hopes to profit from it. If the song she begged him to release on Youtube (I'll See You Yesterday) is actually really released, does he get some sort of cut?

I read either in an article or maybe on his FB page, that he'd asked Mindy WHEN he should post the song to the internet and her alleged response was "you'll know when." Now given what she'd gone through, how distraught she was, her history of suicide attempts, etc.....wouldn't such a close friend find that statement as worrisome and ominous such that they might contact law enforcement and express concern for her safety/wellbeing as she's all alone?

I don't get a good feeling about Hanks or his motives here. Check out his FB page.

I seem to recall in an earlier link that it was said she knew she was being recorded. This is why I believe that she brought up pills and the insinuation that David wasn't taking his medicine, and that she regrets not getting them to him by some method.I'm cynical as well, which is why I don't think it was Hank that wanted to make use of the recorded conversation.
I'm sure that he is making use of the recording now to be in the limelight.
Buying a new truck makes it seems as though he planned to be around for awhile. That is new info to me.
I'm not sure if he was prescribed any medication but I'm sure LE will look into it.
The comment from Mindy "you'll know when" should have caused anyone to wonder.I thought the same as well.
I don't know why she was left alone in her state of mind and especially can't figure out why she was in a home with guns.

IMO
