I was out of the forum for a few hours- had a doctor's appointment. I know you'll all be devastated to learn that no, I did not upload pics from the waiting room to my IG account.

That said, I was hoping to come back to an arrest.

What gives?!

Stats are stats .. but i am talking from life's experience somewhat ...

When i was still in Russia .. a teenager... and travelled to Countries (ex. Soviet republics / places) such as Armenia, Gergia, Dagestan etc ... - I saw how locals crave, say for example, "visitor women" (especially "white" woman from Russia etc, say Moscow women etc).

Single - travelling woman .. Can meet ALL kinda not ideal characters there ... with bad intention... if you know what i mean.

And i don't really care about Stats . or crime in NY etc in general .. - Even if it's MORE than in Turkey say .. i still will defend my opinion about single attractive woman travelling those places (not Turkey specifically) ... ESPECIALLY NOT for the purpose of PURE travel .. but possibly to meet up with someone there .. and visit various "common people" areas of town or cities with that someone.

My opinion only of course.. take it with grain of salt or not ;)

Well if you don't care about stats but life experiences perhaps you should consider the opinion of a woman who actually has the experiences of living in Turkey, and is trying to tell you that Istanbul is NOT especially dangerous for a woman.

And i don't really care about Stats

Then why should anyone take your random impressions and anecdotes about crime seriously? If you've decided in your great wisdom that official murder rates are now meaningless?

Um. . .we have come to agree Istanbul is in Turkey?

I think I'd rather have the wild speculating over the creepy silence. At least when they're throwing theories out there, claiming they're confirmed as fact, we at least have something to sleuth. Grumble.

I'm reading all of this sex talk and thinking about Sarai and Tarkan. I do believe they had sex - I believe his claims. If he knew he was innocent, he really had no reason to divulge that information other than LE probably asked him the nature of their relationship. And he told the truth, IMO.

My guess on their relationship: they had been somewhat 'flirting' online, commenting on pictures, etc. Who knows what their private e-mails and iMessages and Facetime (and the like) said. I'm going out on a limb and saying that the sexual pressure/interest from both sides was rising. By the time she got there, they were willing to have sex anywhere at that point. But then I think after the initial sexual encounter (or two or three), the novelty wore off, and she didn't find him as interesting. She had gotten it out of her system. The same may be true for him, but I think *she* was the one taking this huge trip, trying to branch out, 'take a break', feeling that '7-year-itch', etc. I don't think their tryst was as much of a life-changing experience for Tarkan as for Sarai, considering he is reportedly a single male and she had been married to a guy she had been with since they were teens. I believe I read that she will be buried on the 15th anniversary of her husband's marriage proposal to her. They've been together awhile. So I believe Tarkan's lawyer when he says there was no emotional investment in the relationship - probably not from either side but especially not Tarkan. I do not think that makes him a jerk. It's just probably his lifestyle as a bachelor.

I'm backing off of Tarkan. I believe whoever murdered Sarai was someone she was acquainted with, either online before arriving or someone she had met previously while there - or a contact of one of those acquaintances. It could be anyone from a fellow IG'er, to the landlord, to the carpet guy.

As for Ammar, he seems like a sweet guy. He actually wore a tiger outfit to the airport to meet her, his 'tigress'. I'm on the fence about their relationship being platonic or not. I think the underlying reason for Sarai's trip was to 'find' herself, to spread her wings, to experience a part of life that she never got to experience and felt may be slipping away from her as she aged further into her 30s.

I think photography may have been a part of her reason but I think it was more of a cover-up to her family and maybe even her friends.

Whew. Hope this makes sense.

It is definitely possible. I really am on the fence about it, but of course, have no idea what she was up to. Problem is even if the police knew any of this, they wouldn't "officially" say, as it is not relevant to put it out there.

Wait though, didn't Ammer state they were just friends? and also if Taylan did too thru his lawyer, then we have less proof she had intimacies with someone else even. I think I saw someone post this earlier about Ammer saying this.

Ya.. US is far from perfect .. and very corrupt .. i AGREE ...

But i was talking about single attractive woman vs. travelling to foreign country (with possiibility, at the least, of those travel plans involving some sort of affair etc .. among regular travel pastime of course).

You d have agree US would be somewhat safer (for that particular reason) ...

HA!!!

Ummmm. . .the day I run off to a foreign country to sleep on the couch of a woman who dresses up as "my tigress" for me "her tiger" is the day my wife divorces my a**.

Only sayin...

;) But overall I agree with your take on wacky old Taylan and farcical Ammer....

If nice buildings weren't what she was aiming for, it would make sense that she wouldn't know what the Hagia Sophia was. That's why I specifically mentioned Lonely Planet and Rough guide, they're much grittier.

Heck, most people who go to London don't realize that London Bridge is very plain and what they THINK is London Bridge is actually Tower Bridge.

(And yes, my comment about guidebooks is a blatant attempt to stop the oversharing train that is chugging full steam into sexville.)

Ya.. But the question is: "To be or not to be" ... :D

No ... the question, actually, is: Did you go to Turkey just as a visitor to see the country .. or did you go there to meet up with somone, while being married .. for a possible "encounter" .. and then visited "questionalbe, shady" areas of Istanbul ... late at night etc etc ...

By .. thanks G*d .. NOT everyone gets raped, murdered etc .... but chit can happen occasiionally .. as was the case here.. (and that's why it made NEWS and came to our attention... otherwise we'd never hear about some female travelling to Turkey or WHEREVER else).

My husband said the same of his international travels (almost 30 countries for his job). He said 'what would YOU think if I went to one country then announced I was traveling 1000 miles to another country to sleep on a woman's couch that I had met online?'. Tru dat. But Ammer doesn't seem like someone who has a dark edge/side to him. Just a dude.

Man, looks like I'm losing people left and right from the "Taylan's guilty" team. Now you too, Belimom?! Say it ain't so!

I just can't give him a pass yet. I can't. Too many coincidences involving that cat. I'm not ready to let him go.

Prostitution is legal but its still discrete. Which also makes her coming across it and getting in trouble for seeing it far less likely.

You would not just accidentally walk into a brothel though. They are not disguised as a regular bar. And they are way below the radar.

Right, which is why he took her there of course. He must have known it and was a regular or not - just IMO.

But the friend was being asked specifically about safety.

This IS something we haven't discussed. We don't know much of how SS spent her time in Amsterdam or Istanbul.

What if the "research" was more to ensure one could travel there safely?

Maybe she really knew little or nothing about the city and its history and current life. Maybe she just thought the architecture looked cool and like it would be fun to photograph?

Ok, true. I would never ever do that but I have friends like that.

We can discuss this.

There were 2 alarming things for me about this:

-That she told her sister she is going to go Asia, of course she might have done that before but when I read it, it sounded like she hasn't been there. Even if she did doesn't make sense that she is going there on her last afternoon.

-Taylan's claim about on 20th she asked him where to go and he said if you haven't been there go to the historic peninsula (old city) and then they decide to go to galata and topkapi. That sounds a bit stupid. A normal tourist who has a week in istanbul would spend at least 2 days there. Its the most touristic place. Even if she wanted to see different things I would expect her to go there first day and then do other things.

--Ok after writing this I think the reason she told her sister that she is going to asia is that she was planning to meet with Taylan?

Apologies if this was covered before...I was out preparing for this snowstorm we're getting :)

The only thing that makes sense to me regarding Sarai's missing clothes is that the perp wanted to remove any evidence that could contain DNA, fingerprints, etc. that's why only her shell was taken, in other words, anything the perp would have touched.

And this fact also removes the druggie attack as possibility. A druggie would not remove her clothes and leave behind the jewelry. Even in a possible rape, the druggie would not take off her shoes. Why would he have to?? He just needs to pull down her pants not take them off.

Somebody that she casually met during her time there could have picked her up in a car during her walk. She was a very trusting person. She would have not given it a second thought to jump in a car with someone who she previously shared a brief exchange with. Perhaps even someone who saw her in the bar the night she had the encounter with Tarkan.

Anyway, that's what I got thus far...
