Great, crime statistics are meaningless to you. Ignore all facts and assert a fantasy-world instead of contending with reality. That won't help us understand what happened to SS. Or understand anything in the real world we live in.
Hopefully this will help somewhat then ...

Murdered Staten Island mom may have been rubbed out in Turkey by a 'professional' says Istanbul paper

Turkish cops believe Sarai Sierra was lured to the killer’s Istanbul home and bludgeoned to death. Her murderer apparently dumped her body in a tough part of Istanbul hoping to blame homeless people, the report says

Does anyone have a link for the report about this witness who saw her in one place where she was approached by a guy with a business card - and then saw her somewhere else days later with the same guy who was with 4-5 other men? Am I remembering that correctly?

If so, just how - in a city of 13 million people - does someone just happen to be in the same place twice as the same random American tourist? And from what I gather, the first sighting was before her trip to A'dam and the 2nd was after the trip from A'dam.

Seriously?

He would do all of those nice romantic things if he were "romantically or emotionally attached" But he probably would not if he just wanted to hit and run or just get his rocks off for the evening.

How do we know SS didn't initiate the act? Traveling abroad to a never before visited place you sometimes cut loose.

Perhaps someone can assist, but I remember seeing an IG comment by Sarai stating that she was going "there (Istanbul/Amsterdam) to play" that always struck me as interesting. In addition, if the NYtimes article is to be believed, for all intents and puposes she was a single woman abroad (separated since 2005, around time of bankruptcy) though maintaining a good relationship with her husband.

If the DNA don't fit, you must acquit.

I've come full circle and am nominating Taylan for this year's Nobel Peace Prize

How about one of People's 50 Most Fascinating People?

Lavy, does it say that LE actually saw this on video surveillance, or that this is their theory? We know she evidently crossed that street at some point if she was on video at the beach/near the water side. I'm leaning towards it being their *theory* b/c they are trying to say it is random. And that would fit with a random attack: noticed the doors, went to take pics, then was attacked.

It does say that. Or maybe not.

Full sentence is "Police watched the camera recordings and determined that SS was walking on the seaside and crossed the road to take pictures when she saw the historical door in Cankurtaran"

Please read the thread.

It's a re-hash of a purely speculative article published in the Turkish press this morning. It's old news, and we've discussed it to death already.

It says this is just one of many theories that LE has. I wonder if there are fresh carpet fibers on her or the blanket that makes them think that.

Carpet fibers! Carpet man! :what: I hope if they have any fibers, then they check his carpet shop for any matches... (and I hope this speculation doesn't show up somewhere else online as fact: "Carpet fibers found with Sarai Sierra")

ETA --- I didn't realize this was old news either. Been away most of the day from the internet. Then I got too caught up in everyone's sex posts (the airport and such...ahem...) to catch up on the thread.

Having said that, though, LE will know if she was killed at the scene or not. That's got to be one of the easier things for LE to decipher.

Sorry, he's yesterday's news. While I think he and Sarai hooked up, I don't see him as the killer.

He's the killer. I hope. Otherwise Imma look dumb. Which isn't to say it hasn't happened before.

I think he didn't help look for her or come forward when police asked him to because he already knew what the rest of the world couldn't- she was dead.

I think he had sex with her on the day she went missing. At his place. I think something weird happened and he got angry. When she tried to leave, he killed her. He dumped her body at the walls, knowing that surveillance would have picked her up going there, and that she had made previous statements online to others about heading that direction the day she went missing. He couldn't dump her at the bridge proper, obviously, but the walls are even better. He gets to blame the weakling 14 y/o glue sniffing druggies that frequent the area. He know she won't be found immediately, which means the elements would have taken care of 99% of the forensic stuff that usually gets people like him caught.

When reports came out that there was semen on her body, he panicked and admitted to a sexual relationship he had denied up to that point. He wasn't sure if they were mistaken or bluffing, but he wasn't taking any chances.

Yup. That's my theory right there.

It's upthread somewhere. Good luck unearthing it.

It sounded like grasping at straws to me, but on the other hand we ain't got nothing but straws at this point. What do you think the connection to her murder could be?

I agree - he was not emotionally attached, nor she.

Plot thickens in the slaying of Staten Island tourist in Istanbul

By Tracey Porpora / Staten Island Advance

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The saga of Sarai Sierra, the young Silver Lake mother of two who was slain while on a solo photography holiday to Istanbul, Turkey, only gets more tangled.

There were two startling revelations by police Friday, as reported by Turkish media: On the day she was due to return, the 33-year-old was spotted with a strange male; meanwhile, none of the DNA taken from 22 suspects matches that recovered from the scene where her body was found on Feb. 2.

A witness reported seeing Ms. Sierra with the man on Jan. 11, as well as on the day she was supposed to fly home, Jan. 21. According to Turkish media, the witness told Istanbul police that he first spotted Ms. Sierra engaged in conversation with the mystery man outside the city's Sultanahmet Mosque.

The witness told police he saw the man give Ms. Sierra a card of some sort as she left the mosque. Next, she "took a walk" with him, as well as several other men, Turkish media reported.

This development comes on the heels of initial reports that a man known as "Taylan," met Ms. Sierra on Jan. 13 by the Galata Tower. Taylan told police that he had sexual intercourse with her. Reports say she developed an "Internet" friendship with the man several months before her trip.

Steven Sierra, Ms. Sierra's husband, told the Advance he was "aware of Taylan," that he was a tour guide for his wife while she was in Turkey.

I was right there with you, until just recently. I think it's still possible but I don't see it was being likely any more. One thing that does bother me: her body was found shortly after he was released.

The NY Times article mentions they were separated as of 2005, but said nothing of what happened after that.

A few days ago the Turkish press said something about she and her husband having problems @6 months ago and her moving in with her mom around that time.

And then you have the way the husband conducted himself once she vanished.

I would say their relationship status as of the moment SS took off for Istanbul is about as clear as mud to me.

I'm not sure. But perhaps a cover up? Pointing the finger elsewhere? It just doesn't jive that someone just happened to be in two separate places that both Sarai and this other person was on two separate days in a city as large as Istanbul. And took notice of it all.

THERE! That's the story that just seems odd to me. Unless it was a street vendor or someone like that - and she met the man in the same location, not a different one. Otherwise... how does that happen?!? The whole witness thing?
