Who is Tarkan? He takes lots of photos. Some bridges and houses. Some pretty women. Lots of really cute cats.

Whenever I google one, they both come up.

How is that even possible?

Huh, even google's not sure anymore.

Also, just because the sign on a bathroom denotes a gender, it's not like there's a magical forcefield to keep out people with the opposite parts. Trust me, as a woman, if you go to enough dive bars, concerts and other events, you end up using the men's room once in a while.

Maybe they found two people's DNA on the body (the friend?). One of the DNA was Taylans, but they don't know if it was from the night before or the killing....and they are trying to figure out who the other person is by making Taylan believe he is not a suspect?

That's what I thought too. Perhaps Taylan's friend groped Sarai and she scratched him so she got the friend's DNA under her fingernails. Or maybe there was a mix of prints under her nails because there was more than one person she struggled against and LE managed to collect only trace (unusable) levels of mixed DNA.

I'd really like to know whether Taylan had actually taken a friend to meet with Sarai the day she was killed. We need confirmation.

Ahem, it's not unusual for many cities

Naturally. But I had the hunch that the op might make the mistake of thinking Turkey as overtly conservative as some Arabic nations are.

Bourne I Respectfully disagree. Except for the age difference they look like they could be the same person.

Their complexion is the only similarity they have in common as far as facial appearance, other than that they look nothing alike IMO. If I were a white German or Russian I could see getting the two mixed up.

Its cross-race bias or cross-race effect... we're all guilty of it sometimes :D

To me most white guys with greying handlebar mustaches look alike.. same for white women with straight blonde hair and dark shades.

I agree, taking together all this circumstantial evidence looks very very fishy. And if Taylan is not the killer, he has to be the most unlucky person on the planet right now,

But if you assume DNA is true, how do you get over the fact that the DNA does not match? It has to be more than simply the LE is trying to throw us off...

I mean, if the DNA matched, and given ALL the circumstantial evidence mentioned above, they would have arrested Tayan by now, right? so the DNA must not match.

How does one make out a viable theory about Taylan w his DNA not matching? Also, recall LE says there is killer DNA so it is not just the case that Taylan killed her without leaving DNA

I could see there could be theories, either you do not believe police when they say No DNA match (problem here is why disbelief of police on this? If they had DNA match they would have arrested him so there must not be a match). Another theory could be that Taylan arranged the killing but he did not himself do it. Another theory could be that he planted the DNA of another (one poster had this theory but others did not agree). All at the same time, he wiped away all his DNA and planted another's (what LE claimed Amanda Knox did - wiped away all her DNA but leave Rudy's - impossible to do, IMO!).

Maybe there are other theories too. But I do not think any of these other theories are very strong.

On the one hand there is very strong circumstantial evidence against Taylan, we know that, we debated that for days, we all know Taylan is the number one suspect and there is a strong circumstantial case,

But how reconcile that w fact that his DNA is not a match? If glove don't fit, have to acquit right? If no DNA match, and taking LE at word there is in fact killer DNA, how could Taylan be guilty? No one addresses this question. How could Taylan be killer w no DNA match? His DNA cannot be a match or else they would have arrested him...

One poster mentioned above too re: Taylan and Amman and landlord's kids reading this someday. That is why I think we really need to be careful in accusing people.this can affect people's lives, their jobs, etc.

There is extremely strong evidence against Taylan. But there is compelling forensic evidence too that not only suggests he did not do it, but, in a court of law, would be sufficient to actually clear him. We hear all the time about foreign DNA clearing some poor guy locked away for 40 years for a crime they did not do. It would be the same here; the presence of foreign DNA that police say is killers and does not match Taylan gives us reasonable doubt. That fact alone could actually clear him, no matter what the circumstantial evidence suggests: if cop says killer DNA and it ain't yours, there could not be an arrest let alone conviction.

So how get over the fact that there is exculpatory evidence here? How could Taylan be the killer when his DNA is not a match?

If Taylan and/or Sarai wore gloves and they struggled, whatever DNA she got under her nails may not be from her murderer.

I remember a press report that Taylan was the moniker LE used to protect his identity and his real name is Tarkan? Correct me if I'm wrong please. :)

EDIT: I was wrong. Taylan K. and Tarkan A. are different people.

No no you are confused. Taylan's name was @taylloo . He changed it to @sahhrudd

@tarkan1971 is tarkan, NOT taylan he has always had that as his name, and hasn't changed it.

You are mixing up two separate people.

You're right. I forgot about the photo of Tarkan that was recently published.

That's debatable however the person with the @tarkan1971 IG account is not the same Taylan/Tarkan in question for hanging out with sarai.

Is taylan on any of the surveillance tapes? We don't know, I think is the answer?

I shall not forget your forum handle while writing my suicide note. My sleuthing virtue has been insulted. I cannot live with this agony. :)

Huh? Are you saying you're going to incriminate me when you take your own life? :waitasec:

Did you see the first frame? He's like Rambo.

These kinda guys would consider it an insult to use pebble stone to kill someone.

He's not our guy.

I'm starting to think you are Taylan. :)

Well, crimes of passion are chaotic. Maybe there wasn't an intent to kill, who knows? Let's not assume murder was premeditated.

If wore gloves, that makes it less likely it was spontaneous, heat of passion murder like has been suspected. Unless he already have gloves on..

not sure what temp was in Istanbul that day? but if warm if he had gloves on, it would seem murder had to be somewhat premeditated (if just for a minute) bc who goes to kill someone w rock and says, oh wait let me put gloves on. Of course, he could have done that, but that would mean there was at least a half minute of premeditation where he thought he would hit her w rock

What circumstances would lead one to get DNA under fingernails? Who else would she have scratched? I guess maybe if she had sex w someone else, it could be there DNA

When you scratch and get DNA under fingers, how long does that DNA stay? Suppose she had sex 3 days ago with Mystery Man number 2. She washes hands or baths in meantime. Would both types of washing get rid of foreign DNA? They would I think. So it would seem unlikely that the DNA would come from sex bc she would have washed hands...unless she just had sex...I am not completely sure though of the forensics...

What else besides sex could she have gotten fingernail DNA? Seems unlikely you get scratches from random people on street..what is innocent explanation for DNA under fingernails?

I seem to recall mention of fingernail clippings at the scene, indicating a struggle..but press has not always been accurate especially in early days.. If so, if true, and those clippings are not her, it lends credence they are killers..

LE seems to indicate they have killer DNA, we do not know if they mean fingernails or something else. Maybe it is blood...or semen other than Taylan.. Or saliva....

So who exactly is Tarkan in relation to Sarai? I forgot if I ever knew.

I think @tarkan1971 was a Turkish IG acquaintance of sarai. But one who had very limited IG contact with her, only wishing her a good time in Istanbul. But they never met in person. But when the Taylan Tarkan confusion came up people started assuming @tarkan1971 was the same as Taylan as in @taylloo.

So he had to go out in media and say that wasnt him, and his only crime was wishing her a good time in Istanbul.

I'm pretty sure that poor guy just got brought in because of his handle.

Ok. Why do you think TK is gay? Besides the earring thing which has been done to death and stopped really being an accurate way to "cruise" men like 25 years ago?

And why on earth would there not be a WC for women in a bar in Istanbul?

Some of the upper class establishments offer unisex arrangements.
