It was activated twice before she was found. Once on the 29th. I assume LE knows how long it was on, because they stated publicly that when it was activated on January 29th (SS wasn't found until Feb 2) a Skype call was made.

This was huge at the time, because when the phone was turned on, this was still a missing persons case. LE announced it because at they time they had no reason to believe she was dead. They originally thought the it was SS who'd turned her phone on and made the Skype call, which of course, gives the family hope that she was alive. Turns out she'd been dead a week by then, so someone else clearly made the Skype call.

What LE has never told the public is: WHO was that call made to?

Maybe it was Z making the call to his family asking for the money? Or maybe it was someone else trying to erase evidence...

Yashim seemed to think he lived on the same side of the bridge as the apartment in Beloglu

I believe Yashim was guessing that perhaps he lived in Yenikoy (translation Newtown), because its an upscale area near his lawyers office in Sariyer. But that is an area that is quite far from begoylu. It's down the Bosphorous passed the second suspension bridge that crosses the Bosphorous connecting the European and Asian sides.

RE: bet2173's post

6 months? I'll have lost my job because of obsessive sleuthing and internet searching and be living out of my cold, dark garage eating residual canned goods with the electricty turned off by then. Having to power my laptop by solar charger....

You're right. I should have remembered that from the police station he went to. Do we know which side of the bridge T supposedly went to look for her?

I believe it was the eminonu side.

And you would also loose the sanity with the speculations on the media and the mismatching info, almost every week.

Could be. Whoever did it could have simply used SS' Skype account to call someone totally unrelated to her. That said, I believe we'd have heard about it if LE could tie that Skype call to any known contact of Z's.

I just find it a bit too much that she's in the area (at least at the bridge, and Eminou (or however you spell it)) to meet T, but miraculously T has communication issues and can't connect with her at that crucial point in time, which instead results in SS' death at the hands of a rock-wielding, random, mentally ill homeless drifter in a place that is so scary that everyone who's been there says they'd never go there alone.

T is then so... what? Scared? Traumatized?... that he doesn't help look for SS, deletes his e-mail account, and doesn't immediately go to LE- even as they've basically put out a 10-day long all points bulletin to find him.

I just don't think it happened that way.

I am honestly confused. When T asked her if she was wireless, could he have contacted her some other way after the last known messages between them? Maybe telling her he overslept and missed seeing her at the bridge, and suggesting they meet in another place? Does that make any sense?

Also, she had expected the meet him that morning, so maybe that's why she was dressed as she was?

That's what I'm thinking too, I'm thinking they perhaps had communication means that were less traceable, I don't think those few messages btw them were the entirety of their communication. And if he messaged her back at 1245, and she was seen on camera in eminonu at 130pm.....that certainly gives us a window in which such communication could ave taken place.

It was activated twice.

Once January 30 at 10:30 PM
Then February 1

They should have been prepared to at least nail the second call.

Since her US GSM card was used, I don't think they had established the necessary cooperation with the US GSM operator by then.

Or maybe they didn't want to cheat by using high technology, they wanted to locate her using the old-fashioned methods.

Mismatching info almost every hour.

Yes I guess so. I think its weird that he messaged her at 1245 pm. Saying "I'll meet you there" and she is then seen on a camera in eminonu at 130pm.

When we have been told previously she disappeared from camera view near cankurtan, shortly after being seen on a camera in serkeci at 1:15pm.

But this new video puts her in eminonu, which is before serkeci (btw serkeci and the bridge) even after that.

Something tells me there is a WHOLE lot about this case we don't know.

I completely agree. The way information has been parsed so sparingly by LE is perplexing. They seem to be intentionally creating false narratives in attempts to make the perp(s) expose him/herself/themselves as they lack sufficient evidence to make an arrest.
IMO the latest pics released showing Sarai at 1:30, look like she is going to meet someone.

We don't know if he has a cart. Do we?

If he had, he could even fit two bodies in it. Google link gives good examples.

But some trashman just use a strong big plastic bag, as big as a big kitchen, restaurant trash bag (30 gallons perhaps?)

No, we don't know it. I was just speculating.

Thanks.

Mind my ignorance on GSM technologies, but are the applications whatsapp and viber compatible with the Samsung galaxy?

What? Are they going to use phone books to search for this number?

Do we know if it was activated before or after she was found?

Can LE tell for how long it was on? You would have to spend a fair bit of time to delete stuff, rather than just turn the thing on and off.

If the story s true about the electronics being turned on, t happened before her body was discovered. Jan 30 and 31 I believe. Because LE had hoped it might be a sign she was still alive.

I believe it was on long enough for a skype call to be made. At least it was reported a Skype call was made.

I would think if someone took it to erase info from it though, they would have done so the day she disappeared. But I'm just guessing of course, as we all are.

I can see why a panicked perp would wait a day or two to think this through, fearing at any moment that the body will be discovered. A week later seems too long.

And why use her Skype to call someone unless it was a number that was ONLY in her contacts list and not available to the perp?

Now really going out on a limb with a wild guess-- what if it was an Amsterdam or Munich number that was dialed?

Maybe they may have waited only because they weren't thinking clearly, or because they were afraid the call would be traced to the phone, which was with them, pinpointing where they were...in their home cleaning up and bandaging wounds perhaps...

I had read that TK recommended SS to spend her last day in the peninsula, referring to tip of the Old City, saying "The peninsula is our pride". Sounds weird. No matter how I translate it or read it. What's with that? What are we proud of? Who are we? Locals of Lygos, Byzantium, New Rome, Constantinople or İstanbul?

I would never recommend that. And to do what? Promenading? Saray Point (sarayburnu) looks out to the Marmara Sea, not much to see. The view of Saray Point is much nicer than the view from Saray Point.

So weird.

Bad advice.

I also noticed that. The photos taken of the penninsula/ Saraybunu from a boat, from the air are lovely and have the very classic profile of Hagia Sophia and the better preserved old city walls.

From Saraybunu out to the Asian side or even of the bridge , not so interesting. Not very dramatic for camera phone photos at midday light. You need an SLR with a variety of lenses to do justice to that area. Note that the IST phots on IG posted by SS are sunset-type photos, not flat daylight.

Which brings me to ask--- how dedicated a photographer is TK? Does he have an impressive portfolio or a more pedestrian one? Does he ever mention selling photos or aiming to sell them? Or does this just sound like a way to pickup women?

I had assumed she had been wearing the cap with her hair tucked up under it to appear modest and blend in. Maybe when she saw that not everyone dressed that way, she felt more comfortable being herself. Perhaps she was out for a walk and happened upon the ruins and thought it was a good place to take some photos.

It could be because of the weather too, maybe it was raining or cold when she wore the cap and then she took it off.
