TX - 10 deceased as a result of crowd surge at Astroworld festival, Houston, 5 Nov 2021

Legal question:

Based on the news some attendees are expecting settlements in the billions. At what point and how do they decide who was traumatized enough to warrant settlements? Is there anything stopping 50K attendees for feeling like they suffered emotional distress in one way of another?

“Jurinek was a junior at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he was “pursuing his passion for art and media,” his family said in a statement. He will be missed by his father, Ron Jurinek, with whom Jake became especially close after Jake’s mother died in 2011”

Hadnt thought about that angle “prefer that they communicate without the attorneys”
Some people may buy into not getting an attorney if it produces a quick payout....
@Luna20 My post should & could have been worded more clearly. My apologies.

I read TS's stmt as saying he was not really interested in hearing from families of the deceased or injured, or from disappointed fans. jmo imo moo I could be wrong, just my interpretation. Others may be right in taking his stmt at face value.

Quick pay out to those not represented by atty? Any pay out? Some ppl. may hope but I wouldn't hold my breath. Again just me, could be wrong.

Feel free to call me a cynic.

“The club wrote '2 floors covered with money and EVERY DANCER who worked last night went home happy thank y'all for the love and support WE RUNNING IT BACK 2 NIGHT ! @area29htx SUNDAY FUNDAY.'

In one now deleted clip seen earlier in the week, DJ Akademiks posted video of about nine dancers reveling as they count up their cash.

A man shouts: 'Say thanks Drake!'. 'Thanks Drake!' the women reply”

Wow if that’s true. He hadn’t even given condolences at that point…

Does Drake have the same wide age range fanbase as TS?

Thanks for clarifying and no worries, I was referring to his request for the attendees to contact him directly. He supplied an email for direct contact. The article is upthread.

As LaborDayRn said: "I could not agree more".

Sadly, however, his music genre seems to rewards bad boy images with even more fandom.

The contrast between Drake's alleged post Astroworld behavior, and the palpable, but respectful grief of Bharti's family could not be more sharper, IMO.

I think it's so admirable, that despite their absolute loss and heartbreak, the Shahani family made sure that Bharti's final act was once again for others. They allowed her organs to be donated, so that others may live.

Based on the news some attendees are expecting settlements in the billions. At what point and how do they decide who was traumatized enough to warrant settlements?

In this case, there might not be alot of meaningful settlements from the person primarily responsible- even for the people who deserve one.

First and foremost, there is Astroworld and TS. The two seem to be largely one and the same? TS has deep pockets- one source claims up to 60 million. But other sources do not seem to be in full agreement with that.

Given the totality of Scotts behavior before and after the deaths, I dont think he is going to be inclined to offer large settlements- let alone bankrupt himself.

Sure, the victims, both real and claimed, can be awarded huge amounts. But finding and then actually collecting awarded amounts can be an entirely different matter.

I would hope that anyone who does want to sue would talk to a lawyer before doing anything - don’t accept funeral payments, medical bill payments, the BS “free mental health” phone line he’s promoting, ticket refunds, or any communication from anyone in TS’s camp. It would be too easy for TS’s or LiveNation’s people to sneak in a clause that states if the person accepts the refund (or whatever) they are assumed to be compensated and waive the right to sue.

I hope TS and LiveNation are sued into the ground. This whole thing was a preventable crapshow, and his new spokesperson can sit down and be quiet. Any performer including TS can stop a show if they want to - he’s the one on stage, he’s the one with the mike, if he walks out the show is over.

OMG, in the video on this page, the witness said people at the concert were stealing shoes, Apple watches etc... that had fallen off of dead bodies.

I hope TS and LiveNation are sued into the ground.

What was Live Nation's role at the Astroworld event?

Their website offers tickets sales for dozens of concerts / events ranging from the very large to the far more modest.

In and of itself, the website suggests that they broker ticket sales only. This would seem to greatly limit their responsibility. Yet, another source suggests that they might also provide direct support for some events (stage construction?).

In the end, they might offer different levels of support to different venues. As a result, their level of responsibility might vary from very distant ticket sales only to more direct involvement in staging the event.
